    Jason my go to music for my workouts are both of your heavy metal albums. Can’t lift as heavy as I did 40 years ago but can still train at a fast pace, 30-60 rest between sets. Your music puts me n the zone!

      That's so encouraging to hear! And as you know, it's not about the amount of weight, it's how you lift. I was never super strong to begin with, and these days I train with more controlled reps. You build the muscle much more efficiently that way

    great video, i bought my 1570 also in 2003, never changed the pickups, only thing i changed is pickup height, for the reason sound levels are nearly the same, in changing from neck to middle pickup
    and it changed the sound, to little bit warmer on the neck pickup, and the overall sound is more balanced from bass to treble, of cause this is my point of view
    the more you like the sound of the axe that is in your head the more you love the instrument, more you want to play
    do not forget, the fingers make the sound, and many other things, i am aware of that
    so sometimes i play music, sometimes i make some noise
    rock on

    Hi Jason, this was illuminating :). I am more of a Fender and, even more specifically, a Strat type of guy but I got the Prestige (the Mirage Blue) as a gift from a comedian friend who used it for one of his old sketches. I left it at my mom's for years cause I thought it was one of those Ibanez toys worth 200 € or 250 $. Then one day I was visiting my mom and I decided to look it up; I ended up shipping it to myself (I leave in another country) and I took some time to set it up properly. In my opinion ( and again a strat player's opinion) this is a great guitar and I have it for sale but probably at a higher price than it's worth it, specifically because I don't really want to give it away. Also I see your struggle about the pick-ups. Everyone is saying "put these and put those", but I honestly find nothing wrong with the ones already there, so I'd rather spend that money in whiskey :D. Anyways, just subscribed to your channel. Thank you for sharing your videos.

      Thank you for subbing! Funny thing is I ended up changing the pickups recently to DiMarzio Tone Zone and Air Norton...BUT, I have that guitar back in the shop as we speak getting the stock pickups put back in. There's a rare and distinct tone those pickups give you and I'm missing that, and I've also gotten used to them over the years.

    I have this same guitar since 2004. I love it so much because it was my first “real” guitar. Years ago I put Evolution/Liquifire combo and put a push/pull pot to single them. Give even more versatility and a better sustain. Recently I replace the Evo for an Evo2, but I’m feeling that I lost some sustain that the Evo gives me. Probably I will get back to the Evo. I have a 7 strings and a strato, but this is the guitar I love the most. 16 years with me and counting

    Had one of those for years, was in Mirage Red. Loved it and thought the neck was amazing and soooo fast to play on. Then I bought a really nice strat (hadn't had one in years) and found myself liking the fender 'modern c' neck shape more and even feel it's faster (maybe Yngwie is right.)
    Ended up selling my RG1570 later, because I just didn't play it anymore. I think my hands are a lot like yours but of course it doesn't mean we'd necessarily have similar preferences when it comes to guitar necks and fingerboards.
    *Funny thing:* I bought mine from a friend too and he told me if I ever want to sell it, I should call him first as he'd like to buy it back someday.

    Just watched your TH-cam video on the 1570 Prestige. Talking about the pups. I have one too and to be honest I’ve had it for years and haven’t done anything with it yet. I have worked on many of my other guitars though and found even fine tune adjustments of the poles makes magic happen and awakens the beast within. I have several guitars and my go to is my 96 Jackson Professional in what I call Plum Crazy Purple. I have all the original guts but replaced with DiMarzio pots and DiMarzio F spaced Crunch Lab (Bridge) and Liquifire (Neck). I have 40 something guitars and yeah, everyone has heard them blah blah but this guitar drops jaws. The Liquifire is nice but if I only put one pup in it’s a crunch lab and super smooth long lasting DiMarzio pots. My opinion but, thought I’d share some love. ✌🏼🎸🎶

    I know lots of people owning Ibanez RGs from late 90's who swapped out the bridge pickups.
    I have 2 Ibanez RGs, a Prestige RGA321F and a USA Custom UCEW1FM. I also swapped the bridge pickups in both of these guitars. In UCEW originally there was a DiMarzio PAF Pro, which is a bit weak for my ear (reading about 8,2 kOhm only) and the music I like. So I replaced it with a Seymour Duncan PATB-2. Didn't really play this guitar much since then, so I actually don't remember if I was satisfied with it or no.
    In my RGA Prestige I installed a DiMarzio Super Distortion. And I like it there. Not as powerful as some other high output pickups, but if seems to be way better than the original DiMarzio/Ibz.
    However, the best humbucking pickup configuration for Ibanez guitars in my opinion is DiMarzio Tone Zone for the bridge an Air Norton for the neck humbucker position. This combo is absolutely unbeatable, and it is actually the original set for many high end Ibanez guitars. Just like Seymour Duncan TB-4 JB (bridge) and Jazz or 59' (neck) for Jackson USA guitars.
    I have the DiMarzio Tone Zone on one of my Jackson guitars, and it sounds great. And my friend has it on his early 2001 Ibanez RG570. This pickup soundwise fits there perfectly. One of my favourite pickups for the bridge position, actually.

    Wow!! The old RG SERIES, I remember them being sold a lot in this guitar shop thirty miles away from me, it was the late 1990s just a few years after the time when GRUNGE tried to make it so called 'un-cool' to sound heavy and talented. This was shortly before the ESP LTD revolution, I bought an old DEAN ML off a mate of mine (it's now worn out, in pieces and out of action) On the subject of wammy bar units and trems, I am currently on the search for a new VEE guitar preferably with a fixed/tuno-matic bridge, here in the UK there always seems to be some ISSUE with getting hold of the guitar I really want (V guitars suit my VOCALS/GUITAR, plus I always sit with my guitar like a CLASSICAL guitar neck angle UPWARD in front...as well as the look lol) When I look for the JACKSON line, great guitars that I grew up with but most of them have wammy bar units...so I feel like I will have to learn to get used to working with floyd rose units...so I will have to watch videos, read books and practice maintenance (mind you I've always LOVED the crazy techniques so I DON'T have an aversion to learning these flashy exciting tricks AND...from a rhythm guitar perspective I've always favoured the floyd rose feeling under my right hand technique (for some crazy reason but it seems to work for me...lol...it seems you can take ME out of the 1980s...but ye can't take the 1980s out of me!!) I'm looking for a guitar around the £600 mark because my lucky £200 purchase from back in 2005 is KNACKERED now after years of gigging, recording and band use, certain important parts are well worn. Great video and interesting history told Jason, horns up

    • @thrasheavyrhythm9779
      @thrasheavyrhythm9779 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it did, although I DO like ALICE IN CHAINS and I don't mind SOUNDGARDEN as they stand out from the rest of the trend, and where the 1980s was PURE hard rock and heavy metal in no uncertain terms. But I DO like MORBID ANGEL, OBITUARY, MACHINE HEAD, FEAR FACTORY, STUCK MOJO and PISSING RAZORS then here in the UK with bands like CARCASS, NAPALM DEATH, BOLT THROWER, MY DYING BRIDE, DEARLY BEHEADED then overseas with ENTOMBED, VADER, DIMMU BORGIR, ARCH ENEMY, MESHUGGAH, then the rest of the world SEPULTURA, HATEBREED, PANTERA, NEVERMORE, BELPHEGOR, BEHEMOTH... I think heavy music is STILL a good genre to be part of. I love it ALL, there's different sounds for different shades of my character even though classic metal and THRASH is my main vein.

    Hi Jason, maybe your video was the most detailed and "human" about this guitar, excellent review. Im looking after a new guitar and the 1570 is one strong option, the RG 950 is another strong too. I know it's a premium guitar and here goes my question, have you tried the 950 or any Dimarzio Ibz loaded guitar? Thank you. I actually recently changed these out with the Tone Zone and Air Norton but I don't care for what I'm hearing (I've got 2 videos on that here). I'm considering switching back to the V7 and 8. While they're not my favorite, they do give you a very distinct and different tone, especially when played through a real tube amp (those pickups using plugins are really bad, but it's completely different through a real amp!)

    I bought a black RG1570 back in 2010 and I generally think the guitar is of outstanding quality for the price - it was the very bottom of the Prestige range at the time, I think I paid around £700 for it. The only real compromise on the guitar are the pickups but you can live with them no problem. I think more money gets you better pickups and maybe more interesting woods and finishes, but it's diminishing returns, this guitar is top-notch.

    MY theory that sticks to me whenever I configure my newly installed pickups is that ceramic magnets tends to have stronger magnetic pull than alnico, so that means if V7 neck pickup is very close to the string especially when I have low strings action + while pressing a notes, magnets can lessens strings its vibration. Multiple ceramic pickups very close to the strings can mess up my tuners.
    I happen to have bought RG1570 not long ago thats why I found your video lol! and planning to install paf set or air norton + steve special. I've watched your other video and Tone Zone is definitely not for your type of music and also a friend of mine always sell his TZ on every new prestiges he bought. Other thing is that HS2 works best with high output pickups like Evolution sets that's why it sounded off. Anyhow I still like the Air Norton in your demo (not far off the V7)... True Velvet on middle and D-Sonic / Super Distortion will complement the Air Norton. So something to think about. Lots of artist uses that combinations but yeah V pickups are still great... 1 reason Ibanez made Genesis re-issue to bring back the V pickups :) Good luck!

    If you want a guitar without a tremolo, Id recommend looking into Evertune bridges. It holds tune forever within a few cents, and restringing it just takes putting the strings in through the back. You can adjust them into different zones, one of which will negate any vibrato no matter how much you bend.

    Hey Jason, regular viewer here, I had a RG1527 which is your 1570 but 7 string and I had a lot of problems with the trem. Essentially the block was coming loose and after scouring the internet it appears that its not an isolated issue with this type of edge. You ever have problems with it? I have a Schaller and a OG Floyd and love it.
    Basically, the trem sucked, wouldnt flutter, or return to zero well, and felt not as responsive, but was impossible to see the issue unless you take it a part, so now im scared to purchase one of these. Thoughts?
    Thanks

    i have this guitar and my opinion on it is. this guitar will play ANY style of music. you showed it here, from the cleanest play to the heaviest form of distortion. out of 10 guitars this one i think is the best sounding of the bunch. the bunch consist of fender strat, telecaster, jackson, bc rich, gretch and others. this is the one that blows them away. but hey that's my opinion. but great great guitar. oh and btw the pick up's are made by dimarzio for ibanez.

      The V7/S1/V8 set are NOT DiMarzio pickups. They are made in Japan. I think Gotoh makes them. They are very high quality pickups that cover a wide range of tones well. If they sound off to you try adjusting their heights closer or further from the strings until they sound right. If you think they lack sustain then make sure the S1 single coil isn't too close to the strings. It has powerful Alnico V polepieces that will dampen the strings with their magnetic pull if they are too close.

    • @jasonstallworth
      @jasonstallworth  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not a big fan of LP just because the necks are so thick. And it's really much different from the EC guitars. The thing about the RGs is the wizard necks, thin, but with a wider fretboard. And that fits my hands better than most other guitars, even my ESP and LTD (though I like those guitars better). So it really comes down to individual preference.

    I've had the same guitar in the same color since 2004 (RG-1570GN). Absolutely love this instrument but I really feel I never did justice to it. I learnt how to play guitar in high school with an acoustic Yamaha knockoff. Played rhythm mostly for singing and then ended up buying this bad boy. I do have some issues that need to be addressed e.g. grime on the frets, a noisy volume knob and sometimes the low E starts buzzing if I try to get a decently lower action. Do I adjust the spring tension or does that require messing with the truss rod?
    Honestly, I think now in my 30s, maybe I should try getting back into it and learn more about scales and lead playing but adult life makes free time a limited luxury. Do you have any recommendations on where to get lessons from to fill the massive gaps in my playing ability? Sorry to bombard you with so many questions :) Just saw this guitar and thought I'd ask.

    I used to rock an rg made in 92, had the wizard 2 neck wich is absolutely fantastic, i love thinner necks....the pickups were also not the best, cleans were good, but im a metal player dont need much cleans. Thats where the acoustic comes in...i changed the pick ups as soon is i could....when you put distortion on em to play metal, everything sounds muddy as heck an the definition is gone.......pick ups like fishman fluids have very much clarity and sound so clear.The bare knuckle pick ups have good cleans and excellent shred, but pick ups are personal taste as there are many that can do everything from country to black metal, also keep in mind the bodywood when choosing pickups.... I’m no fan of basswood body’s. And yes woodtype really does make difference, otherwise we’d all have plywood guitars....🤣🤣🤣
    A floating always looks very bad ass on a guitar, but if you’re not using them they can be annoying. In your case, all your guitars have a floyd, so when buying a new guitar with a fixed bridge (somewhere in the future) go for a low bridge like usa hipshot so it feels familiar.....this is sometimes overlooked and can be a reason to return or sell a guitar..
    As for an immediate upgrade, get yourself a cheapass set of locking tuners, those don’t have to be the best, the locking nut will do the heavy lifting..😃

    • @jasonstallworth
      @jasonstallworth  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Faceless Yeah the floating bridges, in general, are really only a headache when you go to change strings. It’s just one of those things you have to be careful with.
      I use my whammy, but subtly for a slight effect and not all the time.
      The pickups are weird...I’ve grown to like them more over the years only because they give a distinct tone that doesn’t sound like anything else. I’ve gone back and forth this entire time I’ve had the guitar on changing them out but still have yet to do it

    I have an Ibanez RGT42DX, which I really love, but I the pickups are definitely the weakest link in the guitar. However, I feel about them the same way as you feel about yours - they aren't necessarily bad enough for me to want to replace them, and every now and then, I feel like they are good. So I guess you could say they are technically the weakest link, but the guitar is so great that it is kind of not a big deal.

    Ibanez changed those pickups a while back & people with more recent models pretty much all Metal players want these back-in, so if you do end-up switching them, don't throw them in the trash just in case you miss them later-on. But they do have that Steve Vai palette of sounds. Not really made for Trash or modern Metal, but you have your ESP guitars for that. It might not be a good idea to have all of your guitars sound the same? I have a 2009 Ibanez RG with the stock INF4 that was supposed to be ''darker'' and I'm thinking of changing the bridge for a Seymour-Duncan JB, because it's awful no matter what you play, even the cleans...Lollll ;P

      I don't think I'll switch them out. I've had it for over 10 years and I guess if I haven't switched them by now, there's a good chance I wont

      @@jasonstallworth Most Ibanez have DiMarzio pickups or pickups developed around DiMarzio sounds, because Steve Vai & Joe Satriani had such immense influences on the Ibanez brand. There are only a few Metal players that I know who play on Ibanez guitars: Kiko Loureiro, the guys in Wintersun & Nita Srauss. I researched which pickups Kiko Loureiro was using recently and found he has his own signature, so does Nita Strauss, so they're kind of unknown ''black box'', but to my hears, it appears that they've switched-out the DiMarzio in the bridge or have hotter versions.

    Ibanez MIJ offers an unrivaled quality over all guitar brands there are.
    You might buy any other brand (such as I did) and be quite pleased for some first time . and then discover flaws, or tje guitsr just might not feel priceworthy or does not sound good in sone situations,or or or.
    Be free from that with a MIJ Ibanez!

    i bought one of the new 7 string axiom label ibanez's and the pickups were dead on arrival :( had to return it and never got the thousand bucks back even after a month. i aint even mad at ibanez or fishman, guitar center are the ones screwing me over. i would have been fine with just getting a replacement but i cant even buy a new one cuz my 1099 is just in limbo

    I feel the same about neck shapes. Im not too excited about baseball bat profiles. Im a rhythm player, and they say fat necks are better for rhythm playing. Personally it doesnt do anything for me, just feels awkward.
    At the moment, a Prestige tier RG is calling my name, as I have no type of guitar that checks the 'speedy neck guitar' box.
    It's also my observation that most hard tail guitars have meatier necks than trem guitars. I personally loathe trems for a lot of reasons. Like you said, string changes are a bitch. However, blocking off the trem is always an option. Also, most Ibanez on the used market are trem equipped. So I have no choice in the matter, if Im in the market for one.
