  • In this video, I tell you all about my Ibanez S series prestige and why I love this guitar! It's a stupendous instrument, equally at home in rock, blues, fusion and jazz and I think it's a seriously underrated weapon of choice. Watch the video for my thoughts, a full rundown of all the appointments and hear it in action in a clean, and distorted setting.

    The ones with the low pro edge trem is even better. It rips! Sustain has nothing to do with the wood. It's probably 95 % pickups, and the rest, or most of the rest the nut and bridge. Maybe 1 % has something to do with the wood. No such thing as tone wood. Good video.

      Sustain is about max tension and consistency as far as the actual guitar. That is why Les Pauls have huge sustain, it’s the arc of the strings which results in aggressive break angles on the nut and bring. This means strings are tight hence string vibrates longer. If guitarist were not so superstitious and actually read some physics they would not be deceived so easily. The rest is pickups.

      In my RG60ALMS you can feel the notes resonate through the entire body and neck, and the fishmen fluent pickups do pick up that resonation. So the kind of wood does help with resonation 100%. I build acoustics, have never tried an electric though. Maybe I should try this summer

    I have this exact guitar in my collection. Also a 5700, 6700 and a 570 I picked up in Madrid as a beater but made carry on status when Flying back to the states. I love my Les Pauls, Strats, and PRS guitars but the comfort of a s prestige and a 4 inch strap keeps me playing Ibanez and easy on the back.

    I too own this model but installed lundgren pickups in it. It is the best guitar I ever played and I have been playing for 20 years.
    I believe the KTS Titanium rods prevent the neck from warping which tends to happen to guitars especially here in Sweden where the seasons shift dramatically between high humidity and low humidity.
    To summarize: it's extremely comfortable and no camera can catch its beauty. It makes you want to pick it up when you look at it and the sound is clear and resonant when played acoustically. Extremely high quality build that is made to last!!

    Love this Ibanez series. I own standard S521 BB (berry burst). The fact is that only body edges are "thin", and this doesn't affect sustain at all. Overall thickness in pick-up area is pretty similar to other guitars. This is achieved through both top and back are made arched. Also I own black SA 120 EX - beefier neck, 22 frets. I've brought my SA to have one tuned in drop D or even drop C. Both are bolt-on neck construction, H-H configuration, but SA has SAT PRO trem bridge. What I like is that these are not so pointy as RG's, more universal style, but can handle any music style. Very versatile instruments.

    • @bucknasty69

      The Tone Zone gets a lot of flack but it’s not a bad pickup. To me, it’s like a hotter PAF Pro, and similar to a JB with more low end and better (not as icepicky) high end. It does sound best in 25.5 scale guitars, I think. It’s not a super modern and tight sounding pickup, but it’s still plenty heavy. John Petrucci used a Tone Zone to record Images and Words, and it sounds plenty heavy and tight on that record.

    I love the S series, have several of them.
    For a good 10 to 15 years, Ibanez kept a strong offer but sales were apparently never as strong as for the RG because most guitar players are emulating kids who want to have what their "heroes" play.

    I have an older S-Series Ibanez with a slightly thicker body than yours, and I like it a lot because you can play just about any style of music on it. Mine has the three-pickup setup with a humbucker at the bridge and single coils in the middle and at the neck. Mine is mostly stock, but I’ve blocked the tremolo and swapped out the neck pickup for a Wilkinson double rail single coil sized humbucker, so I can play jazz on it with the right amp settings. I got it used in great condition, and I think that to me it’s worth at least double what I paid for it. I agree with you that the S-Series are underrated and a lot of people would really like them if they would only give them a try. I really want one of the newer ones like yours and I might trade my Epiphone LP Standard Pro if I can find an Ibanez in top condition. I agree that guitars don’t need to be heavy to sound great, and I also like the Tone Zone pickups a whole lot. I have one at the neck in a guitar I built myself, with a Super Distortion at the bridge, and I get a really wide range of tones. And I don’t think the Tone Zone sounds flabby so long as you’re careful with your amp settings. Thanks a lot for a brief but comprehensive review of an underrated but top notch guitar! • @SGuy715
    @SGuy715 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The Tone Zone is a very dark pickup - you can find it on Dimarzio's site and see the tone profile they provide and they have the lows/low-mids at 9/10 and 8.5/10. Not saying they're bad, but quite a change if you're more used to high output Dumcan's which I find to usually be on the bright side. When I'm playing this Ibanez I find I really have to EQ alot of the low end off my amp or put a tube screamer in front. If I go to drop D the low end can lose alot of its focus and just be a droning flub of lows. I'm considering swapping it or the set because the sound is just not for me.
    That being said, it probably the highest quality guitar I've gotten - attention to detail is immaculate from the factory. The cleanest neck and fret job I've had without having to get work from a tech

    Stainless steel frets sound inferior to nickel to my ears. A bit dull and with a piercy high-end to the sound. The issue is exaggerated when you play clean. My advice would be to go for the hardest nickel frets out there. I got an Ibanez from the 80s and the nickel frets on it are almost 100%.

      Dude, it’s all each to their own. I think satch says something similar doesn’t he? Personally, the change to my RG 550 has been immense since having them. Brighter, fuller, stiffer neck so more vibration carries to the pups. Sounds meaty as hell! I also love the tone of this S ofcourse. Which has nickel. As long as you’re playing and enjoying your guitars, that’s all that matters! Thanks for watching dude! 🔥🤘🏻🎸

    I love the thin body! I also have a bad back from a car crash from 12 years ago. It’s pretty wild it has a green body but a blue headstock though. The Ibanez Wizard thin necks are amazing if you have arthritis in your hands as well. But either way, this guitar design is the ultimate as far as not having to fight around a fat heavy body or a fat thick neck which makes it more difficult to fret chords. Only a complete dumbass would want to play a thick neck after playing one of these or a ten ton Les Paul for that matter.
