      I fully agree every album was a different style of music, I have 4 vinyl albums I am not sure if put out more or not. So many great bands have come out of Germany. I kind of liken this band to Blue Oyster Cult whom I love and have several of their albums as well as seeing them in concert multiple times, they also have a different style on each album'

      someone said this band didn’t have style concrete so they made different sound every time. But this is not true.
      They just made what they feel like. Even today I am deeply impressed by their imagination and techniques.

    A classmate in one of my college electronics courses included LF-SG on a mix tape he gave me back in (mumbles) 1986. It was all different stuff from the Zappa, Gentle Giant, Happy The Man that I was used to. Sadly the cassette was lost to the sands of time or the crack of seat in the Opal Station Wagon. It was all good music but the one song that stuck in my head deep enough to search for the album years later was Spanish Galleon. I had some hassle finding it because the stuff that kept coming up was a lot more Metal sounding (not that there's anything wrong with that) and I remembered Lucifer's Friend but not the song title. Eventually I tracked it down and it was even more amazing than I remembered. The writing, the instrumentation, the playing, the singing and the production are all next level stuff. Enjoyed very much! Thank you Eggs! I'm glad I found this version first. I would have dropped a brick when it got cut off...

    John Lawton- Funny thing is I sing just like him and look just like him!!!! Really strange. I love Lucifer's Friend. I love especially, though, his work with Uriah Heep which in my opinion is the best music they ever made. Both great bands. These guys had chops, just listen to how well they play and how much variation they are capable of. Thanks for the post!

    Heard this KILLER for the first time when I was 9 or 10 years old listening to my once great rock station in STL. I'm still moved by the musical transitions, and progressions, in this piece of music, but alas, there are very few who have the taste to truly appreciate this masterpiece!I wish a super hot, artistic, woman would let me know I'm wrong. And we could talk about music, meet, and have a life where we just groove on the finer artistic things in this life. I'm dreaming, I know. But, I still believe in dreaming...what if???

    I respectfully disagree. They never sold out. They put out several different styles, with each album, up through "Banquet". They nailed each one. Rather than a sell out, I considered them showing how extremely talented and diverse they were. They spanned genres from the brilliantly, rocking first album, to the psychadelic "Groupies", and the ProgRock classic that was "Banquet". Great band, and I'll dig on all their early stuff, all day. I thought "Mind Explosion" was a bit on the weak side, tho.

    Eargasm, indeed. The first time I heard this, I got through the first two minutes or so, as the guitar and Fender Rhodes soloed ....and then this horn section popped in and took over. Immediately I knew *not* to turn it off -- good things were going to happen very soon.

    I guess its all opinion but this is how Progressive Jazz Rock should sound. This has everything going for it i mean everything all the right stuff i love the Fender Rhodes Piano especially in the two main songs on the album. Spanish Galleon and Sorrow, For me 11 minutes is a great length you have the vocals sections and the instrumental sections. Total Eargasm indeed.

    I'd like to propose an alternate history in which Jack Lawton records this and the subsequent album (because it contains "Yesterday's Ideals"), and then leaves, and joins Genesis to replace Peter Gabriel in the summer of 1975.

    • @SuperBenblake
      @SuperBenblake 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree! Funny we'd both have the same thought. It's John Lawton actually. He is one of my very biggest heroes and I even look a bit like him crossed with Peter Hecht! Can you believe that!? Lawton would have been the perfect fit for Genesis. It would have worked with him better than with Phil Collins who basically was a Gabriel attempt in the beginning and then some devilish creation of commercial pop tripe out of Hell!

    • @Drchainsaw77
      @Drchainsaw77 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd say it worked pretty damn well with Phil singing. "Ripples," "Blood on the Rooftops," etc, and yes, even *I* like the WCD album.
      That said, it's just an exercise in counter-history, that's all. Phil is the most brilliant, naturally gifted drummer on this or any other planet in the known universe; but, after hearing "Spanish Galleon," I can picture Lawton belting out "six-six-six ..is no longer alone!!" and being brilliant at it.

    • @SuperBenblake
      @SuperBenblake 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Drchainsaw77
      I love what you mentioned Phil singing! He was the best drummer in the world in fact he may not play anymore because of tragic illness, but he always will be the best. I just think that "WCD" was a horrible album and Land Of Confusion was a little spotty. I was just a little kid when Genesis were at their peak of fame. I loved them then. Then I got into the Gabriel era after I initially hated it coz I was a dumb little 14/15 year old. Lawton is one of the best singers in the world. It's not hard to imagine him in Genesis, but yes counter-history in real life he went into Uriah Heep and did a sterling job. Still interesting to contemplate.
