    When I put an A15 in my 1200, I used the A12 flywheel as it was lighter (And because that's what the martybugs website said to do). When I replaced the clutch I also got the flywheel lightened at the same time. It made a HUGE difference. Felt so much more responsive and faster. I highly recommend a lighter flywheel. I know they don't actually make your car faster, but it feels so much nicer.

    I see your from the Sydney area but the other Datsun guru worth talking to is Les Collins he's done some phenomenal work on creating some really strong & extremely powerful engine builds that are engineering masterpieces.

    Looks like its time for Extra SNOT!
    Mill over lathe every time Mark.
    I had a Datsun Sunny Van for ages, Aussie thing No back seats and she had a bit over 700,000 kays on the original 1200 (Ex security patrol Vehicle) and I Body shutz'd the thing to try and shut it up coz I was in it all day and then added movers blanket under the rear mat and it did make a difference and cut the drone down but I reckon you are on the money with the resonator.... I had straight piped the thing and used a Supertrap on the end lol
    A nice new standard system and she purred at highway and above speeds.

    I heard the A15 is a stroked A14... :)

      Yes it is actually. Filmed over about a month so couldn't remember if I'd said it lol.

    Mark, I'd recommend against the A14 piston mod. I had an A14/15 (a14 block & machined pistons, A15 crank) & it ate the ring land on no 3 Piston.You take so much away from the top of the piston, it weakens the ring lands A piece of the ring then went into no1 cylinder & closed the spark plug gap. When we pulled the head off, all pistons & combustion chambers had signs of detonation. This was with 45 DCOE webers & 98 octane fuel. I'd suggest shaving the head, if you need more compression.I know Stewart lists oversize pistons for A15's. The overbore should give you more compression, too. As for a cam, I'd recommend a copy of the Factory 70 degree sport cam. I've had this grind in A12's,A14's & A15's & it revs to 7000 & makes lots of torque. I've got these locally. You definitely need twin valve springs, which Stewart should be able to supply. I've also used VW beetle valve springs, which I got new for less than $20 the set, but only with a stock cam. You can use the shims from an L series engine to locate the valve springs ( the inners are shorter than the outers. I agree with using the factory A12 flywheel, that was one of my tricks for the A14 's & A15's I've had (3 A14's & 3 A15's) .

      I'm doing this on Stewart's recommendation.

    So that's what you were doing in Riverstone that day 🤣.
    I bought a full gasket kit from him years back for the RB25 in the HR.

    @matthewarmstrong7069 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's a pity you don't have any Saffa mates. A14 parts are all over the place here. They kept making the Nissan 1400 here until 2010. Yes I do know that there are some differences, but essentially Nissan didn't change much in 35 plus years of production.

      Getting a bit scarce over here unfortunately aswell mate. Most of the 1400's are either swapped, or heavily modified running different gearboxes and diff setups haha. Some things are manageable at least and rebuild parts are still fairly available atleast.

      Definitely not diff, so thinking tailshaft centre bearing and/or gearbox.
      (Long bodies run a 2pce tailshaft)

    Is it known what the bore pitch or bore center is for the A15 and A/E engines in general? Heard some say its 82.5 mm whereas others claim its 90 mm.

    • @BarrelBros
      @BarrelBros  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not just yet.
      The plan is to get all the efi and electronics up to speed on the A12, and then basically unbolt everything to the side and slip this in.
      Too hard to do everything and run in a new donk at the same time.
