I explore the creative process through two powerful methods: designing within constraints and the game-changing technique I learned from David Lynch-destroying your project and rebuilding from the chaos. I take on the challenge of transforming two $5 thrift store mini organizers with plastic drawers into a unique wooden cabinet. Along the way, I push myself to sketch more freely, embrace unpredictability, and trust in the build-destroy-build process. The result is something far beyond what I initially imagined, a project that truly embodies creativity as problem-solving. This approach helps me break free from the burden of perfection and unlock new creative potential. Join me as I combine design principles with raw experimentation to create something unexpected and, honestly, a little weird.

Ive always watched your channel BECAUSE you're an amazingly creative human being. Your humor, commentary, and self made music always keep me coming back. The three biggest influences I've had in my woodworking/creative journey have been you, erik curtis, and steve ramsey. All of you have pushed me to do projects that make me happy as well as the projects the wife wants/needs 😂. Keep being you every video, thats all I ask, algorithm be damned!

You are the main reason I got back into woodworking. I took wood shop in high school and really loved it! But, not being around people who make a living from woodworking and no youtube at the time ,I didn’t see the earning potential as a young kid. I wish i had stayed with it but ,the amount of space and money for tools was another obstacle. Now , many years later,my garage is full of tools and I’m getting my skills back ,thank you for the inspiration brother! This build is so visually stunning…love it

Also, I will absolutely search out his book. I have watched you for years and been truly inspired. I am thrilled that you are making content for yourself now…it’s only going to get better from here! Thank you for putting yourself out here like this. Love you man. Git it!

TH-cam is so destructive to the creative process. I would venture to say that 95% of full-time creators have at some point expressed a very similar sentiment. “I can’t make what I want to make because the algorithm will leave me behind.” So much for TH-cam being true democratization of media. Thank you for risking subs and views to be yourself. That’s the “you” part of “TH-cam,” right? I have loved your videos for ages and I can’t wait to see what authentic creations you put out in the future. Good luck, bud.

I love this video and love your very creative project. A great way to combine ideas together. Thanks for introducing me to David Lynch. I plan to get a copy of his book. I also like to use Michael Michalko's book Thinkertoys. Unlike many"motivational" creativity books, Michalko shares several techniques to break up our normal linear thinking and discover how to combine different ideas into a creative outcome. I've used this for many of my woodworking project ideas.

Looks crazy, like approaching some M.C. Escher architecture. Love this creative process. I’ve done it before and if you go into something knowing you’re doing this and embracing the chaos I find you hit walls less often, which is great. You also get totally unique, interesting results and often learn something. Whereas if you have a simple thing totally planned out, if it’s not exactly right it doesn’t even get finished. Feel like there’s a sweet spot in there using both.

Great design and process! I am super wary of using cheap a$$ plastic in anything I care about as it will break sooner than later and will not necessarily be replaceable ...and that will require having to re-engineer and rebuild something I am long finished with. But really, I like Lynch's concepts you speak of.
Next time, maybe model the drawers or whatever you are creating, off the plastic item you are inspired by. Plastic is sh!t and will fail you or whoever buys it or receives it. Blah blahs aside, way to bend your mind and make something very unique.
