It was my 20th birthday(I'm a weird girl, okay?)and she actually did buy me a Spongebob Squarepants cake and had the words "Happy birthday, goober!" written on it. A couple days later, I was singing the "I'm a goofy goober, yeah!" song in the car and when I told her where it was from she started laughing because she didn't know it was from the Spongebob Squarepants movie. Laura, you are a woman after my own heart! I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE buttercream frosting! If I am making a cake, or cupcakes, even if I am making it from a mix, I always use a homemade butterceeam frosting!!! On another note, my favorite birt hday cake was actually a pie!!! My mother was a great cook & she make this delicious, Devine, melt in your mouth chocolate silk type pie. She made it with a regular pie crust and then the filling was a cooked filling. I know it had semi sweet chocolate chips, evaporated milk, vanilla extract of course, but there may have been a few more ingredients. Unfortunately after she passed away, my father donated all of her cook books to the library (we didn't learn this until quite some time later & weren't able to track them down. This pie was so smooth & rich, I can taste it now! The other thing that she did was she frosted the entire top of the pie with homemade whipped cream (is there any other kind?). Once she frosted it, or dolloped I guess would be a better term, she then put well drained cherries on top & then the candles were then placed in the cherries! If you decide to try and come up with a replica of this yummy, yummy pie, my sister's and I will be in your debt forever! We would be more than happy, we would be delirious! Thank you! I will be watching your channel religiously!!!

May- My favorite cake ever is a traditional Hispanic "Tres Leches" cake! :D I never got to learn how to make it but I absolutely love it! If you go to Hispanic/Latin/Mexican stores, you will find them at the pastries area. You can buy whole cakes or slices. It's so delicious! Mmmm, my mouth is watering now ;) lol
NOOOOOOO! Learn from my tragic mistake: make ABSOLUTELY SURE that your "jimmies" (as she calls them - i.e. sprinkles to the rest of us) are colour-fast. Take a teaspoon of your batter and mix in some sprinkles (in a separate bowl). If they bleed all over the place and colour immediately streaks through the lovely white batter, don't ruin your cake! I didn't take this step - which I think should be mentioned as part of the recipe - and I now have a revolting puke-coloured cake. All the little happy rainbow bits just smeared around to make a general grey-green-brown colour throughout. Yes it still tastes good, but I just tried giving it away to the neighbour's three boys and even they wouldn't touch it based on how it looks lol. Maybe I'll try this again some day with a different brand of sprinkles but right now I'm too defeated... I'm gonna go eat my barf cake and cry into it.
I find my sprinkles bleeding into the mix and losing their colour when I add them like that so I recommend mixing it in with some butter and then refrigerating it AND THEN stir it in at the very end.
Made the cake yesterday without the frosting, DELISH. Best vanilla cake I've ever had. Used yogurt and added a teaspoon of vinegar instead of sour cream.
Hi Laura, I love your recipes and I love recreating them, but since we measure in grams here, it is quite a hassle to have to convert the measurements every time I try your recipes, it would be very helpful if you can include the measurements in grams on your website, I think this will also make it easier for every one who is not based in the US. sending you lots of loves!
I live in Germany and I ordered a very cheap set of measuring cups on amazon as i make a lot of american recipes. They were less than 5 euros and totally worth it, i use them all the time because i was tired of converting everything :)
My Birthday is in January and I always wanted to have parties outside & pool parties like my sister whose birthday is in june.. yeah I got stuck with doing little arts & crafts inside or playing outside in the snow.. but I remember that moat of the time I had chocolate cake for my birthday and my Mom wrote my name & age on the top in gummybears and m&m's :D

My birthday is in August and I have always loved Boston bun as my bday cake. It’s a New Zealand/ Australian dessert. The base is a large cinnamon bun with raisins in (love it) and topped with coconut icing. I normally have self control when it comes to sweets, but with Boston bun I can eat it all in one sitting . Lol

I'm an April birthday, and loved any white/yellow cake with LOTS of buttercream frosting. However my favorite "birthday cake" memory was the year I had my party at the local donut shop. The served everyone my favorite donut (sprinkled donut with a large swirl of buttercream in the hole in the center), and they made me a giant "Texas sized" version.
Cleveland cassata cake / July is my birthday month! It's not the normal Italian version it's a Cleveland version ( ex:Mario Batali's pick: Corbo's Bakery Cassata Cake) it is made with sponge cake , strawberries, custard ,& whipped cream layers, with a whipped cream frosting)! A tradition when I was younger, and we would buy it from Baronas Italian bakery! It is soooo yummy& I would love a homemade recipe from you to try ! I love love all your recipes , they are sooooo AWESOME!!
Great tip: You can put the buttercream in a pipingbag and cover the side with that. I tend to make the stripes stand up, but you can do whatever you want. This is perfect for any cakes. Hugs from Norway.

The base is a large cinnamon bun with raisins in (love it) and topped with coconut icing. I normally have self control when it comes to sweets, but with Boston bun I can eat it all in one sitting . Lol

I'm an April birthday, and loved any white/yellow cake with LOTS of buttercream frosting. However my favorite "birthday cake" memory was the year I had my party at the local donut shop. The served everyone my favorite donut (sprinkled donut with a large swirl of buttercream in the hole in the center), and they made me a giant "Texas sized" version.
Cleveland cassata cake / July is my birthday month! It's not the normal Italian version it's a Cleveland version ( ex:Mario Batali's pick: Corbo's Bakery Cassata Cake) it is made with sponge cake , strawberries, custard ,& whipped cream layers, with a whipped cream frosting)! A tradition when I was younger, and we would buy it from Baronas Italian bakery! It is soooo yummy& I would love a homemade recipe from you to try ! Great tip: You can put the buttercream in a pipingbag and cover the side with that. I tend to make the stripes stand up, but you can do whatever you want. This is perfect for any cakes. Hugs from Norway.
