Se7en and the Mist had the best ending. Perfect for their genres. No winners, just pain. Endgame was already known to be a sequel, so no one really thought that the dusted heroes weren't coming back. Still, Peter giving us that line, "I don't feel so good, Mr. Stark." Gut punch there. Totally the same feels as the Tenth Doctor saying "I don't want to go."
In Promising Young Woman, Cassie in reality sacrificed herself, as the ultimate set up for the ultimate revenge, while ending her own life in what was essentially a soo-cide.
That movie was originally supposed to end on the shot of her hand "reaching" out of the fire, which i think would have been a very smart and even poetic ending that the rest of the movie very much lead to. It's the five minutes after that (which Fennell only wrote pretty late in the process) that are so actively braindead that they soured the whole movie for me
I still think Marriage Story has one of the worst endings ever. Not because it's badly written or unrealistic. But because it IS realistic and it's heartbreaking for sure.
Promising Young Woman was a great movie because they knew the story would be more powerful to keep it realistic as much as I love female revenge movies. But Cassie went into that house knowing she wasn’t going to make it out. That is pure guts and conviction. How many others movies involve a hero’s big sacrifice? John Wick can go after men for a dog (which was awesome) Cassie can go after evil people for losing her friend.
Se7en is still a one badass movie. The ending was perfect imo. One of the best crime themed movies made, along with the Usual Suspects, featuring Kevin Spacey as well..
The world's end is my favorite of the cornetto trilogy, and I maintain it is an incredibly underrated and misunderstood movie. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost fighting at the world's end pub never fails to get me to tear up.
These are the endings I love, the ones that leave you reeling with mixed emotions - even anger or disappointment - but stick with you and make you think. Ben's heartbreaking death after his harrowing survival throughout the movie, Cassie getting her revenge in the end after losing her life for it, the absolute devastation after Thanos snaps his fingers - when the twist is done well, I find myself liking those endings more and more as I pick them apart in my mind. Honestly, that gut-punch from my first time seeing Infinity War in the theater _still_ lives rent-free in my head! Then the whole "5 years later" thing when I went to see Endgame? I was so not expecting that, and I still think about how I felt during and after those movies.
It was actually realistic that Cassie wasn't able to fight back Al, due to him being stronger and bigger than her. It's also notable that we never see her face again after she's dead, representing her status as an anonymous murder victim.
Se7en was an awesome movie, one of my favorites. The twist at the end was horrifying and worthy of a "WTF??" several times over. It was freaking brilliant.
Uggh. Great actors in that movie, and some parts of it were very good, but I found that movie to be poorly written. Bridges, Robbins and Cusack gave their all into these characters that just did not exist. That movie could have made this list, but the script asks the viewers to suspend their disbelief too much. The payoff bummed me out because the leadup to it was very poor, though that payoff could have been and was intended to be nuclear level explosive. The fission process failed and the reactor was poorly maintained. Next time, enrich the uranium better
The ending was probably the most interesting part for me, grim for the protagonists but more hopeful for humanity as a whole. If I felt more of a connection to the characters I could understand being frustrated
Promising Young Woman could only have ended in heartbreak for the viewers, when it comes to Cassie. But Cassie knew that, and planned accordingly. She got her revenge, and viewers got a true catharsis at the very end of the film. I don't think I can say that I loved this film, but it is absolutely brilliant.
"I don't feel so good." actually has a terrifying explanation for the character. One of Spider-man's most notable powers to fans is his Spider-Sense. In the MCU, at this point, he calls it his Peter-Tingle (lame). This is his ability that causes him to sense inbound danger and threats to him and react in advance. It can even ramp up his perception rate if needed to survive the threat. This means Peter felt the threat of the snap occurring in real-time. His body wants to react to the Snap, but because of the Gauntlet's effects, not being able to. So he was sensing every moment of his demise, and his body was rebelling at not being able to do anything about it.
Tuck Everlasting. That ending destroyed me when I was like 7. It’s not even a bad ending, it just subverted expectations in a love story and I was totally unprepared for the gut punch that sometimes true love isn’t worth the price you have to pay. Hard less at too young lol.
I thought that what was shocking about the ending of ‘the night of the living dead’ was that his ‘rescuers’ killed him because he was an armed black man. I always felt it was a commentary on racial profiling 🤔
The script wasn't written with his character being black, he just turned out to be the best actor among the group Romero was able to recruit for the film so he got the lead. Had a white man been cast it would have ended the same.
In regards to Se7en, we know what was in the box. It was the severed head of Brad Pitt's on-screen wife. They just never showed it, and they didn't have to.
Night of the Living Dead is ultimately a film about racism in the United States. Yes, it is about zombies AND, more importantly, Ben, a capable, resourceful Black man has to overcome the racism of his fellow survivors who are White and resistant to working with him. Ben survives only to be shot in the morning by the White posse hunting zombies who fail to recognize his humanity.
Yeah, well, that's what he gets for being different. You know, I bet that ending would have been a lot easier for you or anyone else to stomach if Ben had been wearing a weird kind of hat...
The casting for Ben by Romero is so great, he went to an the effort required to light him correctly, accepted feedback and suggestions from the actor, made Ben more interesting and intelligent... And introduced a racial element to the film giving it such layers
I skipped that one. Not a Ryan Gosling fan, but I have seen a few movies with him that garner some respect such as _Blue Valentine_ and _The Place Beyond the Pines_ which were both directed by Derek Cianfrance. Also _The Nice Guys_ where he co-stars with Russell Crowe.
I just watched Threads for the first time today, and my God, that last shot. It may not have been intended to piss off the audience necessarily, but it does completely hammer home the absolute bleakness and darkness that’s built through the whole movie. It’s good but want to feel like shit? Set aside a couple hours and watch it
Llewelyn Moss is not an Everyman. He is a former Army sniper. He survives the initial chase. He is practically a Superman. But he is up against the whole cartel, and particularly a literal Uber Mensch in Anton Chigurh.
Se7en’s ending doesn’t make me mad, since it made sense for Brad Pitts character to have consequences for all his mistakes. He let his emotions get to him way too easily, even after Morgan Freeman’s character tried to help him
There are times when its okay. And I dont need a happily ever after ending all the time. But one thing I hate is when they want to piss you off, and do it in an egregious manner, or sometimes, they just do it too much. Because in both movies, shows, and even video games, it seems far too often that they include characters, or events, that are just unredeemable and unlikable and it almost makes it unbearable to sit through because you are just so annoyed the whole time. Like, who wrote this and thought it would be enjoyable? Even if there is some payoff at the end, Im not watching this ever again because Im not sitting through this again.
My only problem with Seven is it's a rare occurrence of me thinking I could do better. The twist of John Doe's plan, placing himself in the sequence, would have been better if Mills had ruined the plan by killing himself instead.
Originally, Somerset killed John Doe in order to save Mills. It was changed to what it is now because it was decided that Somerset should continue to be a detective since he didn't stop Mills.
@@mat0018 Isn't the point that Somerset shoots Doe to stop John Doe winning? He knew that Mills would kill him, demonstrating wrath and John Doe wins. Somerset shooting Doe himself instead means that John Doe lost, because he didn't get what he wanted, he didn't complete the seven deadly sins. The crazy thing about the Mist’s ending is that Stephen King apparently loves the ending of the movie more than his own.
It truly was a better ending. Speaks volumes of King’s character and love for story-telling by getting behind such a huge change to his material.
