I did this technique on a Buell blast head, followed manual and stripped out 5 fasteners. I then had to install helicoils and a keensert fastener. Got it to finally work. I just think that he heads were worked on before my time and thus the aluminum material probably was degraded on prior installations. But again, your videos are crack dead good!!! I’m an aircraft mechanic by profession and a hobby mechanic on weekends and still I have to look to the internet for advise and educational knowledge. Keep it up dude!!!!
Just tore down my 2016 FLSTFBS 124" build for lack 9f ring seal. The assumption was that the pistons and cylinders where not done correctly and I know Torque plates where not used. When I started to back out the 4 bolts I was shocked by how loose they where . I used ARP Torque grease on the heads and a dab on the threads. Now I'm not so sure and would imagine it's a combination of both. I did not after first start go back and retorque but will this next time. The cylinders have pretty bad scoring but not felt by fingernails.
The cylinders will "streak" with varying thickness in the wall thickness and it's get's worse with larger CI. I've torn down motors with no to minimal leakage and was shocked at these streaks. Harley instructors at PHD did a good job showing us some cut away cylinders to explain it. Now streaking from debris or oil issue is a different story the "heat" streaking. Just mentioning if you can't feel it, should be a good chance to torque plate and hone....clearance spec permitting. Also, if heat related the pistons will look fine. Shane
Great video ! I'd like to replace the stock steel fasteners with stainless steel fasteners. I know that the torque is to be lighter with stainless steel, as it is stiffer than regular steel. Any idea what would the torque value would be ? What about the last 90 degrees torque ? Thank you in advance
Not without some research. Checking with bolt manufacturers is where I would start. Thank you for sharing…below are some links that help support me and my work. Thanks for posting these, very helpful. Subscribed. Any recommendations for removing baked on gasket material from cylinder heads? I’ve tried multiple solvents with no luck. Also, I’m afraid to scratch the metal. Thanks, in advance!

That depends on the motor really...In almost every case I would say "it's so easy from here to do, why not? Buy the insurance it will give you to be new". BUT on a twin cam, its and oring and pretty resilent...then again, the moment I say that and have no idea on how old it really is (mind you the year and miles are not a guarantee) it would end up leaking...moral of the story...I always buy insurance...tell us what you intend to do! @@How2Wrench definitely earned a subscriber! I've already watched a few hours worth of top end instructions in the last 2 days 😎👍 2006 FXSTBI 20K miles. Broken exhaust stud needs drilling... she's too young to need all that work but I suppose it's good practice. Will likely replace all top end gaskets on both cylinders to keep things even and new. Now if I could only find the money for the big bore kit...

If I only intend on changing the head gasket, should I also change the base gasket?
