I wrote this in 2012 and kinda sums up our sense of humour!
    The Scourge O’ The Hebrides
They were the scourge O’ The Hebrides and feared by mortal men
They’ve chased many a man they say out of a Heiland glen
But one thing that is sure today if they get a taste for blood
They’ll follow you through bracken deep, through bogs and heather mud
    It’s the Midges!!!
When the Vikings came ashore quite near tae Aberdeen
The sight they saw was the fiercest thing that they had ever seen
It’s said that big great Gamry men made them wish they were never born
But the thing that sent them back to sea was the cloud O’ deadly swarm
    It’s the Midges!!!
The Roman’s when they ventured north came running back on foot
They built up Hadrian’s Wall to try to keep Scottish oot
But it wisnae hairy heiland men, it wisnae Celts or Picts
Marc Anthony had a swarm O’ Midges nesting in his bricks!
    Aye, the Midges!
It’s said that Bonny Charley sailed o’er the sea to skye
But the midges got the best of him and Oh poor Charley died
They chopped him up and stuffed him in a dry stane dyke so braw
That is why they sing the song “Bonny Charley’s noo a wa”
    Cause O’ the Midges!!!
[The joke here is that there is a song called "Bonny Charley's noo awa'" (now away) in the Scottish dialect, "awa'" is away and "a aw'" is a wall]
So if you come to Scotland prepare for insect bites
You can try your best repellent creams and hats that look a sight
But when you lay you down to sleep all cozy in your tents
The midges have swiss army knives and will sneak in through the vents
    O’ the Midges
Now you may all wonder why the midge lives up here
And why that many Scotsmen don’t have midges round their ears
It’s cause we’re all immune to them by the porridge in oor boots
In fact on farms we breed them jist to keep the English/Tourists oot!!!
    Aye, The Midges
Now as this song comes to an end I hope that you did laugh
And now I’m sure you’re thinking that I am pretty daft
But the thing that I find funny is not the smile upon your cheeks
It’s that this song’s got in your head…and now you’ll be singing it for weeks

@@BobStrachanMusic You mean the band "Food Stuffs" that released their first album "Ramen Themes" with the hit single "Pot Noodle Heed"? Is that what you mean? If not then I don't know that I can explain it to you. It's pretty involved (emo throw back hair flick sigh) and hard to explain. So.....ya.

Ah, they're not that bad, if you tell them that we're mates, they'll leave you alone!

Is the language some Scottish dialect? I could only pick up words like "Aberdeen", "Scotland", "Midges".
