    GUN!!!!! Always going to go for the gun when presented with an opportunity. I think Nate shooting from the nipple demonstrates the need for getting to the gun ASAP instead of waiting for the “safest” most controllable moment.

    Round 4: Nate demonstrates he’s a Renaissance Man ... instead of bracing he rolled because: he’s a well rounded guy! 😂

    I would be afraid to push the weapon away and continue to roll. Any bystander could grab it and use it on you. Instinct, I feel would be to control the weapon regardless of what it is. Just my thoughts.

      @@ColoradoKravMaga Should have had the jiu jitsu guy trying to draw the gun while the Krav Maga dude tries to stop him, I know thats not the best example for Krav Maga but would have been interesting

    That was great. I often find myself thinking about the difference between BJJ and Krav Maga and what might works better and where. Not surprisingly, I've come the conclusion that every martial art has strengths and weaknesses. BJJ is so deadly, and fun, on the ground. But the gun or knife scenario throws monkey wrench into all that- unless Tamer gets the firearm first. Great idea guys- love it. And hi Nate!

      Thanks for watching Jacob! You're so right, everything has it's strengths and weaknesses but that's why it's so crucial to cross train :)

      I propose taking Krav Maga and mma at the same time, Krav Maga is pretty much mma but with so much more taught like tactics, pressure testing, dealing with disadvantageous situations etc. There’s bjj taught in both and by taking both your keying in on the actual fighting skills with mma and adding onto it with what’s taught in mma and combining everything only taught in Krav Maga that I mentioned. A good example I think of is how marines lost to ufc fighters in h2h but that’s with rules of it’s the other way around the marine might have an advantage with no rules and Krav Maga teaches a lot of what mcmap teaches as far as no rules go like finding any weapon around to use against an opponent and dirty blows like groin kicks eye gouges and more as well as tactics and everything else I mentioned but he’d still be lacking actual h2h only having so much time with it so taking both is the best of both worlds I think and if possible getting a white belt in bjj would be a great advantage when taking those 2 to get the fundamentals down for when you’re taught the 2 in km and mma since it is an art that takes longer to get proficient at.

    gi pants would've been interesting since the added friction will make lockdowns and guard play more formidable while mimicking someone wearing jeans. also, he probably should've worn his pistol IWB instead of OWB.

    • @ColoradoKravMaga
      @ColoradoKravMaga  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agree with the added friction of jeans, but I think more so the lowered level of maneuverability would play a bigger role.
      As far as IWB goes, it gives a DISTINCT advantage to the wearer over the the opponent based on retention characteristics and lower chance of the weapon being visible in the altercation.
      We've done many drills in KM and in BJJ where the other person wasn't aware there was a gun, and almost 100% of the time the gun ended up pointed at them before they knew it was in the fight. It's not a flaw of BJJ by any means, because it happens in KM too...it's a flaw in training.

      @@ColoradoKravMaga if there is a lower level of maneuverability with gi pants or jeans the you should size up ;)
      I have no doubt, but having the weapon IWB as most would carry would make it harder to get to. We play with this drill all the time for fun, but in a realistic situation, I wouldn’t be going for my gun until I know I can safely and securely retrieve it. Otherwise, I’m just indicating where my gun is

    You guys did a great job presenting this. I believe that with the gun in play it can go either way. Its a matter of recognizing that there is a gun involved and addressing it immediately.

    Awesome video! Lots to think about.
    I would like to see more of the gun coming from a concealed position and on appendix carry.

    Interesting video. I have a few questions though. I am wondering why the bjj would pull guard so much? In this situation, it seems like it’d be a huge disadvantage to be on bottom.
    Also, I disagree that a person would only pull their gun if it’s a last resort. In the US if someone has a gun they will pull it way before you get close enough to grapple with them. Even cops will pull guns before they’re willing to engage in grappling with a suspect

    • @ColoradoKravMaga
      @ColoradoKravMaga  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Guard is a highly advantageous position if you know what you're doing. We took this from the perspective that the grappler didnt know there WAS a gun until he felt it or saw it. I think hand control in Guard would be a great tactic to fight from the bottom. We don't get to control where we fight if it's a surprise attack so we train all positions.
      The video wasn't about a fight starting standing up and then ending on the ground but more from the perspective of "what if, for whatever reason, I ended up on the ground".
      In most cases as fights escalate I don't think the 1st thing that comes into play is a gun. It's all dependent on the threat.
