I love everything I've bought from gearwrench. I bought the standard, mid and deep in 1/4 and 3/8 sae and metric. Plus the gearwrench swivel sockets

Thanks for these reviews. Easily one of the best tool reviews out there.

Great review Catus. I was unaware that there were mid length socket sets. Thank you

These are great. I have these and used them and the 3\8 sets professionally as my main chrome sockets. Used them heavily 5-6 days a week. On air ratchets and impacts at times. They do not wear out and deform hardly at all. The only thing I would say is a very slight down side is they have a little thicker walls than would be good for a chrome socket. But I never ran into a situation they wouldn't fit because of it.

In the past few years I replaced my Craftsman 3/8 drive metric 6 points with Gearwrench. Got shallow, mid-length, and deep from Advanced on sales and 25% ended up about $20-25 a rail. Have been working out really good!

On amazon right now they are at $23.80! That’s a deal! Probably a Father’s Day sale . I might get them!

About a year ago I bought a big set of Neiko sockets. Very reasonably priced, and so far I'm quite happy with them. They're impact, but not terribly thickwalled, so I've found them fine for all my uses so far (though I actually use a little Makita set of impact sockets that I have even more often). I haven't used them a lot, since I don't work on my car anymore (for the last few months I've hardly driven it!), so perhaps they won't hold up over time. I wonder what Catus Maximus would make of sockets, and the brand.

I have never found the need for mid length sockets myself. I bought the GM shorties and tend to forget I have those too! That is a low enough price to justify having them, though.

Not many brands offer mid lengths. I can excuse the missing 6.3, but 4.5 is inexcusable. Thanks for the review.

I just purchased these sockets. Got them for an awesome price $13 from Amazon. They are $28 now.

Speaking of decent 1/4in sockets, Dewalt has a 48-piece SAE+Metric impact set, deep and regular, no skips, for ~$85. That seems reasonably priced to me, and so far I've been happy with it, but I got it last Christmas, and what with one thing and another, haven't used it much.

Do you notice the gearwrench 1/4 sockets kind of wobble on their ratchets? What’s with that?

I ain't even gonna lie. I've got all kinds of snap in socket sets. Impacts, impact swivels chrome's and all that for auto work mainly transmission work. I have broken alot of snap on sockets.. doesnt happen often. But it does. My 3/8s shallow chromes are gearwrench. Never broken one. Ever.

These are super expensive now like$50-$60 bucks, I want to get a set of mid length but I don't like the prices. Probably go with the capri's but I prefer chrome.

The 1/4 mids are the same length as a 3/8 shallow impact. But the 3/8 mids are a different length from any of my 1/4 3/8 1/2 impact and chrome set. My opinion just get the 3/8 set.

I've never really needed mid length sockets as far as I can remember, but I hear you on those timing belt covers. I don't know how many times I've had a standard length, standard + short extension, and deep well all in the same area. A mid length might handle them all.

Do you know of any not China/Taiwan made sleeved wheel/lug nut sockets? I know that you've reviewed a set before...from HF I think? But I've been trying to find a good set US, Japan, or even German made. I can't seem to find any US ones. But there's a set from Koken and Wera.

I think you are looking for a dinosaur in a theme park, only in the movies....
The Pittsburgh pro (not the colored set) are reasonably good, well sized, durable, and well protective for most Vehicles. If your working on vehicles over $100k then I would into some of the high dollar German made socket sets from HAZET, Schwaben, and others. Also there are some specialty long reach protected sockets for corvettes which do well to protect corvette wheels. Although one socket will cost as much or even more than the entire set of Pittsburgh.
