    Well With all this new knowledge and skills you've obtained, you and your kids need to acquire a sailboat. The true adventure is now beginning. don't loose your dreams even when things go wrong. Just keep learning and growing with each challenge. Also transfer this new knowledge to your kids so they can be the future skippers on the sea. Well done.

      Could agree more, we can't wait to put it all in to practice on our own boat. Hopefully we are almost there regarding a boat, don't want to say too much just yet, incase the deal falls through.
      Absolutely we will be teaching the kids, thing is they have better memories than us lol, so they should learn faster.
      Thanks so much for the words of encouragement :)

    Another great video. It’s great to see you being responsible and getting the proper training. A lot of people don’t and end up in danger unnecessarily.
    I would always recommend the use of Vaseline or glycerol when changing an impeller, not fairy liquid which is abrasive and not particularly lubricating on first start up. Also belt tension should be checked by checking the deflection when you push on top of belt. Usually about 10mm or a pinky width.
    Well done on passing guys 👍

      Selkie Marine Couldnt imagine going to sea without the correct training, there's so much to know.
      Great tips thank you, we'll use those.

    Pleased to see that you all passed. You had some great weather conditions too. When I did my DS we started off in the Solent with a Force 8 gale, and Force 5's most of the week! Good experience though.

      Thanks Geoff, we had a few hours of 38knt gusts hitting us which we were glad of because you don't want it too easy when learning, just like you with the Force 8, you'll have learnt more in those conditions than you would've in lighter conditions.

    Congratulations to you both 👍
    you guys are just like us , we did our day skipper at Largs with Pav also , what a great teacher she is. like you two were are fairly new to sailing and have just bought a yacht (etap 32l ) in Troon on the west coast and currently on passage bringing it back to Amble Northumberland. if you are around Amble you are welcome to join us as crew. it's great to spend time with like minded people.

      Wow Brian & Lena it's great to hear from somebody who's done the same course and had Pav, she's an outstanding instructor 👌🏼
      Congrats on the new boat purchase, that's great!
      We will be keeping our boat at Whitehaven for a season or two and will be exploring the firth of Clyde, so no doubt we will meet and have a beer.
      Thank you so much for the offer to crew, that's incredibly nice of you, we are busy traveling up and down the country trying to finalise a boat purchase when not working.
      Do please keep in touch and let us know how your passage goes 👍🏼

      good luck with your boat purchase what ever you choose, noticed you looked at a southerly, this was also top of our list for our first yacht and we viewed one at Amble but it needed some work around the lifting keel mechanism so it would of pushed it over our budget. It's an exiting time looking for your first boat but expect hidden problems, we are starting to find some on our etap as we use it but nothing to serious. Our next leg is this weekend about 35 hour none stop sail from Lossiemouth to Eyemouth. looking forward to it but fog might be a problem..

      Thank you, yes it's a mindfield, we've payed for one to be hauled and surveyed and it turned out not to be a good boat, we learnt a lot from that experience, mainly what to look for ourselves before paying for a surveyor.
      Suppose it's like you hear everybody say; your always fixing something on a boat.
      Hope you enjoy this leg and you have fair winds and nice seas 👍🏼

    Just subscribed. Binge watched from beginning. Good to see some of the otherwise unknown UK places that you trained at. Stunning scenery. Soaking up all all that you have experienced so far. Ideally would like to embark on a similar path.

    Your videos just get better and better 👍. Did you get taught what I consider to be THE most important part of MOB? Assuming you have enough crew someone MUST MUST MUST do nothing else other than point at the casualty in the water. It’s no good just hitting MOB on a chart plotter ... in tidal water the person can easily drift a long way from that position and it is scary how little you can see of them. Anyhoo, enough preaching 😁 what did you think of the boat? It looked really comfortable and fast. Easy to handle? You made it seem so 👍👍👍👍👍

    • @OverlandSea
      @OverlandSea  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      S Jay Wow what a compliment, thank you 😊
      We certainly did, whoever was on the helm had to allocate somebody to keep an eye on the casualty and point at all times. They also had to get somebody to call mayday etc.
      We loved the boat, to be honest we couldn't believe how easily it was to sail and manoeuvre for a 47ft boat.
      Thanks for your support, we always look forward to your comments of encouragement 👌🏼

    Great well done guys. Felt a bit emotional when you got your certificates, don't even know you but well done and looked like a great time. Look forward to seeing what boat you buy and then you can go on with confidence. Cheers. Andy UK SY Corrival Rival 32

    Did you do the Day Skipper theory before doing this course? Or did you do it after/not bother?

    • @OverlandSea
      @OverlandSea  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      ToastandJam52
      We did the theory first, did it online through a company called NavAtHome. If you watch part 1 of these learning to sail videos, you'll see Gav tell you a little bit about the theory.
      All the best

    • @MrT10p
      @MrT10p 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OverlandSea Is the theory absolutely necessary if you already know some of the basics and just want to do the Day Practical? What are the realistic chances of failing the practical?

    • @OverlandSea
      @OverlandSea  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      mrt10p Your supposed to have the theory before the practical and you need to have some experience before doing the DS. The Dayskipper isn’t mandatory but we’ll worth doing, plus you can get your ICC if you have Dayskipper.
