    when you are using a cut limb to hold tent up carry a tennis ball cut and put over end of stick and will not tear the top of tent. if stick will ever be on bottom of tent floor have the tennis ball cut in half then you have 2 pieces and will have for both ends of stick. also could carry a couple small pieces of a foam sponge to place on ends of sticks then no worry of tears either

    I have a 10×10 tarp so i have been wanting to try and find different ways of making shelters so when my children and go camping and this is by far my favorite so I don't have to lug around a heavy tent. And not only that but I love teaching my kids (10, 9 and 4) different survival skills. And I think this will be very hand game fun. Thank you and I'm looking forward to your next video

    I'm a fan of the tarp tent configuration. I use the DD Hammocks 3x3 Tarp for this. I set my trekking pole to about 1.2m and that has the effect of creating greater headroom and narrowing the overall profile. I'll also use a second pole to the rear of the inner set around 0.6m to lift the rear inside and give a bit more use able space under the tarp.

    Thanks for showing how to set this configuration up Jacko :) I'll definitely be trying this sometime with my Snugpak tarp. I wish Snugpak had included tie outs on the traditional A-frame ridge line points rather than on just the diamond shape configuration...I might try to add some to mine sometime. But then again using a smooth rock is not that difficult hehe. Looks like the rain has let up for you guys down there (other than the little shower in the video lol ). Hope all is well on your end. Thanks for sharing! -Lochlainn

      Yea, adding an attachment point with a small object under the tarp is pretty easy and a very secure fit. It doesn't damage or stretch the tarp like we were talking. The rain did let up but we're about to have some more for the rest of the week. It's supposed to be a series of heavy t-storms...

    Nice no tree tarp set up! Something we all gotta try if with want! Maybe instead of a cloth or something like that maybe you can cover the rough edges of the stock with duct tape if you have enough to spare!

      Yea, as far as the supporting post a trekking pole would work best because most of them don't have many rough edges around the grip and a lot of them are expandable. Duck tape would work but I'd be harder to re use. Thanks for watching man!

    I you get two long thin green saplings/branches (like willow) and have a tarp with grommets you can weave them both through the grommets, stake the ends down and lash the skinny ends together kind of like a half hoop, and use one or two sturdier branches or saplings on the sides or middle to hold the hoop up, (even a tripod set up) and stake the ends down and you have a decent tarp shelter without trees as well.

    Appreciate the time it took you to make this video but in all honesty this tarp tent is a bad version of the DD 3x3 tarp tent :/
    The 3x3 DD tarp tent looks a bit like yours but is easier to put together and brings the front outer flaps more inwards so you're less vulnerable for the elements :) Not blaming you, just your tent :p

    • @randallblack4658
      @randallblack4658 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      His setup would be exactly the same as the DD 3x3 if his pole was taller. He couldn't make it the same due to the short stick used. But if you think about it the lower setup is more wind resistant just less headroom.

    High, at the west-coast of Germany it is very windy the most time, and for using a tarp under trees to much windy also. So i frefer to use tarp-setups, what do not need trees. This is much safer. Best wishes Fiete

  • @a.wilson1979

    • @keithfillinger3182
      @keithfillinger3182 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You would want the back of the tarp into the wind. The back of the shelter is aerodynamic which allows to wind to go right over it.

      Are you talking about the morning dew that would collect on top of the tarp? If that's what you mean, you don't get any seeping through the tarp. This is the Snugpak all weather shelter. It's a very waterproof and seam sealed tarp. I've had this in the rain, in the morning dew and all sorts of wet conditions and it's never leaked or any water has ever seeped through the fabric. I have a video review of this start in further detail if you're interested: th-cam.com/video/JcyRDaBNSZE/w-d-xo.html

    Why did you choose to position the tent that way? Did you want air conditioning? Were you constructing a shower stall, because it is gonna be wet in there if it rains? A longer, pointy stick, stuck in the ground would work better. I see some longer sticks in that small forest behind your "tent". " Way of a" is not a quantity.

      I'm not an expert and this is not an instructional video. This is just my version on how I do this shelter. This video was recorded in a small park in the middle of a busy suburb. I wasn't out in the wild this particular time so mu resources for stick were quite limited. I never pretend to be an expert and by no means intend this video to be for teaching purposes. It was just a quick demonstration on how I set up my tarp sometimes.
      Thank you for watching.

      I'm sorry, but your statement that this isn't an instructional video simply isn't true... 0:19 - 0:38 you say that you decided to make a video showing how to make a no-tree tarp shelter. Showing people how to do something is by definition instructional.
      In the description of the video that you made says "This is just a tutorial on one of the ways to set up a tarp shelter when there are no trees available for a ridge line." A tutorial is instruction sir.
      So to add to the oversight you dishonor yourself with lies and excuses. One does not need to be an expert to offer proper instruction only be informed and diligent and with a channel named
      MuddyTigerOutdoors we expect you to display diligence when offering info we are to trust our lives with.
      You can do better and you know it. I'm sorry I am so blunt and harsh but it's a harsh world and wilderness.
      I wish you well as I wish for myself.

      I'd call that instructional.

    Think about using small aluminum tart/pie plate for top of post. Can be usco for cooking etc, etc.

    Neat, do you have a way to hang a tarp without trees?

      As far as being out in the wilderness goes, I have given it some thought but I couldn't figure out anything that wouldn't involve cutting substantial size branches to make two tripods and be stable enough to support the weight of a person in a hammock. And of course, cutting such limbs for the tripod would imply that there are good-sized trees in the surrounding area, making the whole idea of hanging a hammock without a tree kind of pointless. From what I understand, hammocks are designed to be attached to two fixed points elevated enough to suspend a person on the Hammock so it's kind of difficult to think of anything that would replace a tree for that purpose. Thank you for watching!

      You do realize that it’s a demonstration of how ho form/build this tarp configuration right? And not a video on what is the most suitable orientation of a shelter?

    Not to be a downer Debby but you dropped the ball hugely right off the bat. You NEVER set your tarp up with the open side facing the wind. You want the wind to roll over the top and not balloon your shelter with cold air. Other than that I did find it instructional. Thanks

    I have to say this is the worst demo of a tarp tent I've ever seen. I know it was years ago. But at what point did you decide to continue and actually upload this when you realised the stick was too short? DD Hammocks would be my recommendation to see this set up done correctly.
