When the Polish girl said that she never saw any Polish person being proud I couldn't keep myself but laugh. We are talking about a country being ruled by a party called PIS, which is quite nationalist. They are sweeping the polls especially in rural parts of the country.
Regardless of the politics, even a non-PIS voter in Poland can be quite proud of their country and history by the way. Which is totally fine for a beautiful country with a long history. It is not related to racism by the way. As a Turkish person, I lived in Poland for 3 years without any problems. Everyone was very kind and helpful, especially seeing that I try to learn their language and integrate myself to the community. The culture, land and people are lovely and I had very nice chat with people who knew about their history.

Ig you could say we have have big portions and dedicate ourselves to the flag in Elementary but that’s pretty much it. Every state has its own unique Culture but as a Country we can’t really specify because were all different. I think that’s what they mean by lack of culture. We don’t really have anything that EVERY American can understand and share memory with. People from the west wouldn’t understand some things in the southeast, or the Northeast. A huge difference between Europe and the US and most likely one of the reasons some of the europeans girls said that they would be scared to go to the US is the gun regulation over there. There was this random story in the news not long ago that i find very symbolic in the matter: This refugee who fled his home country because of war.. was killed while delevering pizza in the US. Chodzi o pewne podejście do swojego kraju. Dochodzi też ksenofobia i wszechobecna niechęć. To samo co teraz Polacy robią imigrantom zza Buga. Wiele zależy od człowieka i nie wszyscy napewno odczuwają silną więź z Polską czy też są dumni z tego że są Polakami, każdy jest inny.

5:23 On the question of the "U.S. lacking culture," I would suggest those outside the country do research on the Gullah community of the South Carolina LowCountry, who's ancestors were enslaved individuals from Sierra Leone, West Africa; they weave remarkable baskets and other arts and crafts. America also has a Creole and Cajun culture in Louisiana, Pennsylvania Amish and Dutch communities, and Native American communities across the Western Plains. Not to mention the good people of Puerto Rico and the Latino communities of the Southwest U.S. And of course, the Jewish communities of New York and the Irish American communities of New England. We are a heterogenous collection of different immigrant cultures. America has many cultures.

America does have a culture, but because it is so internationally consumed, people don't realize it. Hollywood films, American music (pop, hip hop, r&b, soul, blues, gospel, jazz, etc.), American fashion (jeans, baseball caps, sneakers, converses), American sports (baseball, basketball, skateboarding), American products (Google, Apple, TH-cam, Instagram), American food and drinks (McDonald's, Wendy's, Burger King, Taco Bell, KFC, Popeye's, Subway, Chick Fillet, Coke, Pepsi, Sprite).

@@othellox1064 Dude, jazz did not exist in Africa. Jazz came from African American community in New Orleans during the late 1800s to early 1900s, and it evolved from many other African American genres like blues and ragtime. The denim fabric may not come from US, but Levi Strauss was the one who used that fabric to make into the pants we called jeans today, using indigo dye. German hamburger was not even a sandwhich, but just flatten meatballs called Frickadellen. The Americans put that patty in a bun, and the rest is history. If we are going off your logic, then a lot of European culture is not even European. Arabs introduced pasta, rice, and current numbers we use today, including algebra. The ancient Greeks learned to make columns from Mesopotamia, and their writing sytem was based off the Phoencian alphabet, so Latin alphabet is basically not really European by your logic. Tomatoes, potatoes, and pepper come from the Americas, so a good chunk of Italian, Hungarian, Spanish, Portuguese, Greek, Irish, Russian, etc, cuisine is basically American. Like really? Why y'all people always trying to discredit the US? Its as if you feel so threatened...

There are some aspects of "European Life" that are enjoyable and some aspects that are difficult. Likewise, there are some aspects of life in America that are enjoyable and some that are difficult. Our world would be a much better place if we set those rivalries aside, celebrate our commonalities, and share our differences.

For example without inventions and innovations made in ww2, for example: the development of rockets would probably never have happened (or at least not that fast) so logically there wouldn’t be a space program exists like we have today, which means no satellites being shoot in to the orbit, which means there would be no wireless communication and data transfer across the entire world be possible, consequently the internet used like in today’s society wouldn’t be possible and probably never be invented, which would made the use of computers not just for calculating complicated mathematic equations irrelevant and the development of Home PC‘s would have been unnecessary, as well as the innovations of cell phones , and especially not smartphones.

Not exactly true. There are different levels of American culture, beginning with local and regional cultures, but also interwoven by religious and ethnic traditions. The U.S. also has a mass culture formed by common institutions and media. We have people who have never met but can together say the lyrics of songs or movie quotes. People can share catholic school stories even if they grew up in cities 1,000 miles apart, etc. The problem is that U.S. culture is too complex to be reduced to something like "We all eat pierogis" or "everyone learns how to samba when they become a teenager." There is just too much going on here to reduce it to a digestible "sound bite."

Also, the level of crime in ghettos and slums of the US and Latin America would scare any European away. You hear more violent crimes here because of the increased wealth gap. Hopefully, the 🏛 US Congress could find common ground and change those regulations in the near future. I wouldn't consider travelling there before that.

But it is a bit like me saying I would feel unsafe in a tropical country because of malaria. Yes, it is there and people do get it. But the vast majority of people visiting tropical countries do not come down with fatal cases of malaria. In fact, most of the United States is peaceful and safe, and even most of the cities are safe for tourists. The typical tourist is not going to be a gang member or drug trafficker ---or engaged in a relationship dispute with somebody who is. These are by far the groups who perpetrate and are victims of most violence in the U.S. I am 58 years old and have lived in cities, suburbs and small towns. I go wherever I want to. Some typical trafficking in stereotypes. Both the U.S. and Europe are too big and varied to capture in facile generalizations. The U.S, for example, has a wide and varied regional food scene -- and it is not all just derived from European food. Leaving aside the major Asian and Hispanic influences, you have food traditions based on seafood (lobster roles, soft-shell crabs, clam stuffies) or local foods (Rocky Mountain oysters, venison stew, fried catfish, boiled peanuts) or just evolution of foods (chicken-fried steak, deep-dish pizza, jambalaya and gumbo, etc.).
The tradition of saying a pledge of allegiance in schools or other public places has unique historical causes. It began during a period of high immigration, and it was seen as useful in building a common community and national bond among people who came with separate histories and languages. Same thing with the predominance of English as a unifying language. These things are, in themselves, cultural -- and can be understood easily if you know a bit about the historical background.
It is interesting to me that many people overseas simply lack any such background or knowledge of the U.S. -- and project their lack of knowledge onto the U.S. by claiming that there is nothing to know. In my experience, Americans do not do this with other countries or cultures. We tend to assume that European, Asian, Meso-American or African cultures are old and respectable, even if we don't know about them. IMHO, the assumption that the U.S. is shallow or that Americans are ignorant is a soft kind of anti-Americanism -- a way of taking the U.S. down a peg. Ironically, the jealousy (and perhaps fear) over perceptions of U.S. power and prestige is translated into "Oh well, they're all idiots and it's a crap place to live, anyway." But I challenge anyone to take a slow tubing trip down a lazy summer river anywhere in the U.S., cap it off with a cookout and a campfire with friends and family, and tell me that it's all bad here.

I don’t think American portion sizes are big. I don’t know where that stereotype comes from. You order and eat what you want. If you can’t finish you take it home. The only restaurants I don’t finish my food at are those that bring you bread or chips because I stuff up on those before my meal comes.

People in other countries stereotype the US as being exactly what they see in movies and TV - mainly like LA or NYC. The USA is much more diverse than those two areas. I have lived in places where you never need to lock your doors and can keep your keys in your cars with no risk of anything happening. Other places I've kept the doors locked and been cautious wherever I went for safety.

Real Polish man will teach u for few hours how much this country suffer for its whole story and next go with all good things u can find there, to change topic how great this country is for end. Yes Polish people are open minded but in same time they care for theyr own culture - thats why they sometimes looks like xenophobic.
If i would be in a need for a help and would choose a men from any country on this planet, i would call for 1.Polish 2.Turkish and 3. Hungarian. If even on facade they looks like not trustwort, all 3 never give up when u call for them - especialy Poland go everywhere on planet to help [not fight].

As an American, the comment about French patriotism is in line with my viewpoint that France is the closest analog to the USA from Europe. It's kind of a love-hate relationship with the nation, there's the shared desire to uphold liberty (liberté, égalité et fraternité du drapeau de france). They gifted us the statue of liberty, they were our first major ally, and both our revolutions occurred at the same time. Many founders of the us had direct influence on the french revolution.
I never was really forced to stand for the pledge in school, it was always our choice. I do keep up with international affairs reasonably well. But i do think Americans are a lot more self critical than first appearances may suggest.
