  • In this video, I walk through the different day use areas and the 5 campgrounds of Doran Regional Park in Bodega Bay, CA. I highlight some of the different styles of camping rigs, and wonder what YOUR preferred style of camping might be! (Feel free to let me know in the comments!)
Doran Regional Park has over 120 campsites; they must be reserved ahead of time. The day use fee is $7.00 or free with an annual park pass.
There is a boat launch, and a wide sandy beach that's great for hiking, fishing, birding, walking your dog on leash, and even riding your horse.
This is my "home away from home" when I want to get away....either for the day or overnight.

My favorite way of camping is....watching YOU camp!!! Nope, I don't camp unless a big clean bed and a big bath tub is part of it! You are so amazing to be able to adapt to some pretty meager surroundings! Not for me.... my sweet clean bed is my reward for a day well-spent!

Haha! That's a response I did not expect! I think you fit into the hotel style of "camping," - and a nice hotel at that! Well, viva la difference! I, too, enjoy a nice hotel room now and then.....but I am happy as a clam in my van! Thanks for watching, commenting, and bringing me a good chuckle!

A day with no wind at Doran is a good day indeed. I prefer Camping in my truck camper mostly because I fit in any parking spot that a pickup truck can fit in. Other reasons include, detaching the truck and camper so I can use the truck for other tasks and/or work on the truck or camper separately. A 4 wheel drive rv is somewhat rare but easily achieved with a truck camper and when your truck gets too old and decrepit to be on the road you can keep your camper and just get a new truck. Last thing I can think of with the benefits of having a truck camper is I can still pull a trailer or boat. Thanks for sharing and Happy Wandering!

You certainly make a strong argument for a truck camper, RV Dawg! Thank you for sharing all those great reasons to have one. A truck camper is so versatile! Thank you for watching and leaving such a persuasive comment! It makes me want to consider one for myself! Happy trails!

My preferred style of camping is solo backpacking. Two or fewer nights in the backcountry really isn't worth the effort, so I tend to go from 4 to 8 nights. I mostly do this in the Sierra, but also occasionally in the Trinity Alps, Southern Cascades, and Death Valley.

Thank you so much for watching and commenting! You are very adventuresome, indeed! I think solo backpacking is in a whole league of its own! Much respect!

Beautiful area! I can see why it is popular. I go back and forth on what would be a good way to camp. I like the idea of a van because you can just about go anywhere, and leave in a hurry if a place gets sketchy. But the RVs are so nice! I usually rent homes or stay in cozy, budget friendly small hotels. So many choices!

HI Traci! It's great to have so many choices, and they all have their benefits! I do love my van, and it's always ready to go, and like you said, I can go anywhere, and leave quickly if needed. The bigger rigs are great for the room and amenities, and of course, staying in a hotel or rented home can be a wonderful alternative too. Thanks for chiming in on your preferred way of camping and traveling! I appreciate it!

Certainly alot of things are full ..especially during summer time! Sometimes lighter traffic on different days of the week.
I have a small trailer.. lightweight.. I love to take it on adventures. I can detach and drive during the day and explore. However... I have been working alot so having days off is hard. When I camp and checkout time is noon, I am stuck with adventuring during the day with a trailer..sometimes parking lots are small and crowded.. So.. I started using my suv to camp for the night. Pretty convenient to boogie down the road, sleep close to the trailhead, and first thing in the morning hit the trail.. Great Vid Nanci! Love this topic!

Bre, thank you so much for this great comment! I really enjoy hearing about you prefer to camp...and why! I, too, have a small trailer, but can't pull it on my own, so I use my van to camp a lot. Like your SUV, it's so convenient and so mobile! I love adventuring (as you do!) and even if it's for the day, I try to make the most of it. Would love to "hit the trail" with you one day! Thanks for watching and I appreciate your support!

Right at the moment the best thing for us is our rv trailer and our Suburban. We are looking to upgrade our trailer to something about the same size with a better floor plan. We have also discussed getting a van for more economical distant trips. On our Montana trip next month we will be staying in several hotels and cabins along the way. No sure how I feel about that 🤣 😂 Have a great day Nanci. 😀

HI Ann! Variety is the spice of life, and knowing you will mix up your camping styles sounds great to me! IMHO, there is no perfect RV or perfect way to travel....everything has it pros and cons. Mixing it up can give you the best of all worlds! Enjoy the journey, and make the most of all of the opportunities that those styles of camping will give you!

The best way to reserve a campsite is to plan ahead of time....or keep an eye on the current reservations online....I have taken advantage of cancelations many times! Thanks for stopping by, Dawn!

Not be bias! But Minivan Camper suit me best! No packing and unpacking!

      @inspiredtowander  2 ปีที่แล้ว

I had no doubt you would vote for a minivan camper, Tim! 😂 I share the same sentiment most of the time! I do love my travel trailer, too, but can't tow it myself...so that is a drawback. My minivan is usually my preferred rig. Thanks for watching, commenting, and supporting me as always!💙
