    When starting out, many people, (myself included) layer because they think they need to, because artist "X" does it, when in reality, there's no reason there even needs to be a layer. Layering for the sake of layering is NOT a good reason to layer, and I feel if you do need to layer, that it fits in a different space and fills the spectrum that other elements in your track don't. Therefore, I would at least wait until the section is finished to determine if you really do need a layer after all.
