    How refreshing. A geezer who talks fast, doesn't bore me to death with waffle, and demonstrates stuff that actually makes a big difference to the end result, stuff which actually works, and which you can tell would make a difference to the casual end consumer's enjoyment of this music, had it not been done. Cool.

    How would this relate to using the Tom for a bassline like you did in Your "West COast Tech house video". Is One tom just Sub? One Just Highs? I made a pretty solid tune based on your How to Make West Coast Bass. I used the TOM to make the Bassline as you did. But I'm confused how to make three layers out of it.

    Is it just me or does sylenth sound way better than massive?

    • @the.droetker
      @the.droetker 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      it kinda depends on your sounddesign skills. massive can make way more things than sylenth, but sylenth keeps it simple though

    • @0815Snickersboy
      @0815Snickersboy 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I only have massive and the sylenth demo. But i cant get wide and clean leads out of massive, but i can easyly in sylenth. Also if i compare sound demos of massive presets aiganst the one of massive, sylenth seems to be way more of the commercial sound. But thats just what i think

    • @the.droetker
      @the.droetker 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      like i said it keeps it more simple. but basically every skrillex track is 90% massive, and i think that speaks for itself

    • @0815Snickersboy
      @0815Snickersboy 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because 90% of skrillex sound are dirty heavy basses or glitchy stuff ^^
      For that kind of sound massive is great

    • @WouterStudioHD
      @WouterStudioHD 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you know what you're doing, Massive is better no matter what. Massive can do everything Sylenth can, but Sylenth can't do half of what Massive can do.

  • @Guilherme-md7vw
    @Guilherme-md7vw 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ideally the layers should all have the same peaks like in here or was it just a coincidence? Normally I always have to mangle with the gain on each of the sounds

  • @thijsvanweezel4669
    @thijsvanweezel4669 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    But since you cover all the frequencies with you bassline, how do you add a lead without interference?

    • @antograph225
      @antograph225 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's mainly for bass heavy genres but you can always experiment making some room for a lead idk if that could sound good but you can try :)

    • @museum1401
      @museum1401 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      cut some mids if it's fighting too much, but a bit of interplay is fine..

    • @jojomarino7327
      @jojomarino7327 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Battling this in a track at the moment. I just took away the high bass layer to make room when the lead plays, and saturation, compression, multiband sidechaining, sooth and track spacer 😂

    Can you explain when we need to make sound more stereo than mono?

    • @bppspb7741
      @bppspb7741 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      You do that when you want to make your music sound big, full and wide. Distribution over all frequency spectrum and stereo panorama. That's how commercial music is done. Just remember - everything below 200hz must be mono.

    Don't you have any phase cancellation issue with the 3 bass playing the same notes at the same frequency? I do with Ableton..

    • @AsYouAre741
      @AsYouAre741 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have frequencies clashing it will cancel one or another out, thats why he said you need to make sure every sound has its on space, low, mid low, mids. mid highs, highs

  • @3ricMusic
    @3ricMusic 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    So I watched this video on basses, and the one on leads and in both you said cover all, high mid and low freq, and was wondering if the leads basses and chords, with all frequencies covered meant to 'clash' or if that is how you get a rounded, well produced sound?

    Why you dont put the Sub Bass into the Bus, to compress all 3 Layers together?

    • @allanlimaverde6201
      @allanlimaverde6201 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it is because you don`t want your sub to duck when the higher frequencies activate the compressor. The same way low frequencies and higher frequencies require specific treatments in terms of mid-side depth, they do in terms of compression (that`s what multi-band compressors are for)

    • @nimbvs7233
      @nimbvs7233 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@allanlimaverde6201 No, you can use sidechain to attenuate what frequencies the compressor reacts to. Treating groups of instruments together is a great mixing technique.

    My Son who is studying studio music production and 8 yrs old was watching youtube videos on the subject and started watching this video. Good thing I was monitoring, i had to step out to the kitchen for a minute and when I heard the profanity this guy was using i rushed in and quickly turned the TV off. Just not ready to have his head filled with this negative, cursing, profane, disrespectful language and attitude.
    Those of you that have young children watching youtube videos , Please monitor what they watch. There are those that post videos with no regard for the integrity of their presentations, send out Evil, cursing, negative conotations.
    Peace

      Yeah my videos aren't for kids below 16 for sure. My demographic is very 18-25. Good job on monitoring and appreciate the comment. • @timmorrison8129
      @timmorrison8129 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You have your way of living and so do I. That is what is great about this country, To each his own.I am not worried about my youngest son being a rebel at all, as I am raising him according to the same principles as I have with my 2 oldest . My eldest son is a Captain in the USA NAVY(Sea-bees) and my eldest Daughter has a PHD in Psychology. Both are successful and financially secure.I can speak with them for hours and not one slip of a blasphemous word from them. They are extremely intelligent and can carry on a conversation without foul language. I, myself am a successful music producer with 2 hit records to my credits, I also own my own state of the art recording and production studio which is quite successful. I am a Honorable discharge Vietnam Veteran. I am also a Shaolin Kungfu Instructor Trained from an Original Shaolin Monk. I could go on and on, However from your wimpy wistful reply, I have perceived that you could not walk an inch in my shoes as only a Real Man can do that. I will even let you have the last word in this conversation as I will not reply to any more remarks from This Source. Have a Great Day, Enjoy your life and I wish you much success on your Musical Quest.
      Peace And Blessings

      Tim Morrison your son should be playing football outside or something like that. Not learning music production

    • @matrixate
      @matrixate 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tim Morrison I agree. This guy would seem much more professional if he would just drop the profanity like all the other channels. He's one of the only channels that constantly uses profanity. He cheapens the value of his own advice albeit amateurish. Just make sure your kid studies the right thing from the start...like real mixing artists. Real ones that know what they're talking about actually read books and know a whole lot more than the same old ideas being bounced around on TH-cam by every channel redelivering what another channel publishes..over and over again.
      No need for profanity.
