Thanks for the videos Greg. I really like how thorough your research and information is. I did my first Hyrox in Maastricht this year. The compromised running is really an important thing to work on. I am a relative strong guy that can run a 2 hour half marathon, but the sled push made everything compromised afterwards. Even though we train them on a regular bases this one is so killing. For some reason i didn't really regain energy while running after that. So i will put more focus on this.
Hey no problem, hope you enjoyed Maastricht! Yeah definitely something that can catch people out. The other thing to think about is not only if you trained compromised running enough, but also did you push too fast (with too few breaks) on the sled push. Its VERY easy to try and smash through it, and then ruin your legs to the point where no amount of compromised running training can help you! Im a big believer in pausing half way on each length of the push (so you only ever really push 6.25m at a time before having a short break). I think that can help a lot!
@@roxlyfe Maastricht was great. Nice to see the elite too, what beasts are those people. I also signed up for Rotterdam in may. I am doing a Hyrox simulation training this weekend. I am going to try the halfway pauzing, like you advice. Yesterday we did 4x 50m speed work with the sleds and run 250meter after each 50m. With some rest after the runs. I lost my breath completely. It is some sort of complicated puzzel you need to figure out with your body.
@@roxlyfe a follow up. I did my hyrox simulation with the 6.25 x8 sled push. It made a world of difference. I almost had no compromise because of it. Improved my simulation by over 7 minutes since the last time 💪
@@roxlyfe following up on this. I used the 6.25 x8 sled push in Rotterdam. It worked great. Even though the event feels harder than a simulation I wasn't seriously comprimized after the sled push. It worked like in training. I knocked off over 10 minutes off my Maastricht time so i was happy with that. Besides needing to improve my running speed my biggest issue to solve for now was my energy issue this event. I loaded carbs, took a gel right before the race and one after the sled pull. But i noticed during the lunges my energy was as good as gone. My muscles where still good, so i managed to keep pushing. I guess also the heat of the event was part of it, because i never had this issue in training. The air was warm and humid. But i lost time in the last run and wall balls because of that.
SCREEN VISIBILITY: A simple coloured text on individual lines using 3 or 4 different bold colours would make identifying ones name and whether they must RUN/WORKOUT much easier . I've done 4 events and always found this an unnecessary distraction.
Yeah good idea, definitely sounds like it'd help - its so hard to focus on especially when the track is busy and your name is moving up the screen quickly.
I got confused on the sled pull. On the push, you finish on the side you started. On the pull, you finish (and exit) the other side. Sounds obvious, but when you're exhausted, it's easy to make mistakes.
I know completely what you mean, very easily done! Sometimes the judges help with this by telling you when you're done but not always. One thing that helps is checking the location of the exit to the sled zones on the floor plan beforehand (and trying to memorise that). It's always the same side that you should finish on.
Great video Greg!!! Will be noting all of these down for my first Hyrox in May!
Thanks!
Looking forward to my 1st one in June great video.
Excellent, I hope it helps! Thank you 🙏
Great content as usual Greg 👏 got my first one in London in May 👍
Thanks! Good stuff, that will soon come around!

@@markNL5 wow that's awesome, nice work! 7 mins!...I should start charging for this advice 🤣

I made a lot of these mistakes today during my first hyrox race :(
ah, the first one is always a learning experience!! Well done for getting it done, hope you enjoyed it!
