  • A rare sighting of a real Junihitoe at Kasuga-Taisha in Nara, Japan
read more about it here: www.annees-de-p...
A Junihitoe (jap: 十二単衣) is, like the name says, a 12 layered kimono. As such the garment has been worn by Japanese court nobles during the Heian Era (794-1185 AD). But as you can see the Junihitoe survived the centuries in between and is still worn to day.
Now mind you, the garments are more than priceless and nothing for every day wear. In fact even the Japanese Empress wears the Junihitoe only at a couple of rare occasions in her life - all extremely formal.
I got no explantation whatsoever what I have seen there. The place, as some might have guessed already, is Kasuga-Taisha in Nara. I suspect that this was a wedding. After all the women wear formal kimono and some men cuts - nothing you’d wear on a casual visit to the shrine.
If you got any clue about feel free to comment!
Oh and since this is my very first video I ever uploaded and produced I would gladly appreciate any constructive criticism!
