- Fortaleza tequila has to be in the discussion any time you talk about the best blanco tequilas ever made. For an affordable sipping tequila made the right way (and without additives), Fortaleza Tequila in the blanco expression fits the bill.
Today in my Fortaleza blanco tequila review, I'll share with you a tequila review that will go deep into the history of this iconic brand as well as give you my tasting notes on Fortaleza blanco tequila.
Why is Fortaleza Blanco Tequila Widely Considered One of the Best Tequilas?🥃
There's a lot of reasons why this is such a celebrated brand.
1) The brand carries on an over 100 year tradition of making tequila from a family recipe.
2) They are the only tequila produced at their NOM 1493. They have used the same equipment since inception.
3) Fortaleza tequila is made in small batches.
You'll notice a "Lote" number on each bottle. This will tell you which batch you are drinking. Since this is small batch tequila, and agave harvests vary, you could notice very subtle differences in lote numbers.
This is a good thing, as this is an additive free tequila that is made from the traditional stone and brick ovens and then the juice is extracted with a Tahona. There are very few tequilas still using a Tahona in 2022. It's then twice distilled in the same copper pots that the distillery, aptly named "Fortaleza," has been using since inception.
4) Diffuser free and additive free.

While I didn't taste this tequila during this episode, it's worth mentioning that they make a 46 proof still strength Fortaleza blanco tequila.

Fortaleza Winter Blends
Each year, Fortaleza offers Winter Blends of their reposado tequila. I had the Fortaleza Winter Blend 2021 and finished the bottle with friends well before I could do a tequila review on tape! DOH!
You'll see people rave about the Fortaleza brand, and I'll be honest with you, it all starts with the Blanco. You'll get agave, citrus, pepper, earth, olive, and minerals on the nose, as well as some butter! You'll also get those tastes, and more, when you sip this tequila.
You have to drink Fortaleza blanco to truly appreciate it, don't just take my word for it.
It's a very special blanco sipping tequila.
The Fortaleza Tequila brand has been around for over 125 years and it's ancestral method of making tequila has been renowned and mentioned in many media publications. Again, you won't find many brands as celebrated and covered as you will Fortaleza Tequila!

Hard to impossible to find in the northern suburbs of Illinois. Went to the Kenosha Woodman's Grocery in Wisconsin, found a bottle of the Blanco. Tried it on Wednesday, like drinking heaven, best tequila I have ever tasted. A little expensive now, but worth it.

One cool thing I learned about Fortaleza is that if you remove the label from the bottle you’ll find the Los Abuelos logo etched out in the glass. As a way to sort of get back at the people who wouldn’t let them use the name they originally wanted.
But hold on there, these days Fortaleza Blanco now goes for $80/bottle. It’s now quite difficult to find because of its high demand and the difficulty the distillery has keeping up with it. Another comparable Blanco I really enjoy that more affordable is G4. It’s flavor profile, in my opinion, is very similar to Fortaleza, and it’s additive-free.
Yeah, thats a great thing. And you aren't wrong. Its soooo hard to find right now. G4 is solid. I like their high proof blanco. Have you had that one?
@@TequilaTales not yet but I’ve heard a lot of good things. I really want to try G4 Reposado, Añejo, and maybe the Extra Añejo. Those expressions are also quite hard to find.

Not a fan of any Cristalino's to be completely honest. It's just stripped of so much of it's soul. It was a gift. review coming soon.

59 for blanco and 69 for repo and 79 for Anjeo …. Bay Area spot had like 5 boxes just sitting on the floor lol got one of each just because. Also they had a “batch 150-b” which is a limited edition so I paid 100 for that one
