The Neighbor Totoro is such a relaxing piece of art. It fills you with dreams and takes you on a ride where you don't expect. The music makes me want to fly with the Totoros to every part of the Earth.
I don’t know why, but every time I hear this song, I imagine walking up a green grassy hill overlooking the city on a starry night and just crying my eyes out. I mean like sobbing and wailing, enough to leave you feeling empty when you eventually walk away or fall asleep on the grass, as a cool breeze breathes life into the warm summer night. And as I write this, my eyes get a little watery too.
Literally when life is stressful I turn this on and just breathe and suddenly I feel a lot better like the Spirit of the wind flows through my heart and soul healing any pain or stress can't beat the classics
I went to see this in theaters for the ghibli fest and I started sobbing. I’m so in love with this movie and studio ghibli in general. I love this song with all my heart and hope one day when I have kids I can show them the wonders this movie and studio ghibli has to offer thank you Miyazaki for entertaining us with you talent. Definitely the original version. It honestly feels strange to have this composition in a drama comedy anime about a fluffy spirit. This is the kind of track one expects in a more action and adventure oriented movie. I even imagine the hero giving a sort of speech right as he is about to defeat the villain or something with this music playing.
To me it just feels like the blowing of wind through the trees and the rustling of the leaves and time passing in a sort of somber setting. Exactly what it's supposed to be.
My mom's car had a small fold-out tv, whenever we drove to my grandmas house or back she would pop the cd in and i would watch it over and over. I was captivated by the entire movie, I still love it to this day
My sister and I watched it all the time in the summer. There's a huge tree in my backyard and I would pretend Totoro lived there. That tree is still there to this day.
I thought I was the only one who felt like it was missing.anyway. this one is super 90's like. It makes you feel magical and like a mythical creature! I think we all want that peace we had when we were children. That adventurous feeling before we had to worry about our futures and be bored to death .
When I listen to this I feel so calm and relaxed. I eventually fall asleep and I dream about this scene. Listening to this song feels like being hugged.
I saw this in theaters in 1993 at age 11 in Santa Fe after hearing good things about it in magazines and newspapers and enjoyed it since and this has a nice totally 80s vibe! which is a good thing as i'm 39 and i miss the 80s and 90s

I was most impressed by the little details he got right. You can tell this guy has spent a lot of time in the woods and fields. His depiction of swamp water is pretty spot-on, right down to the color and look of sediment. That might sound weird, but a lot of people don't get water right in animation.
