  • Written by Guy Clark in 1972 based on a line he wrote on a hamburger wrapper with his wife's eyeliner after waking up in the car on the way back from a gig in San Diego. Suzanne was driving them on a busy LA Freeway (of course) and he said the line "If I could just get off of this LA Freeway without getting killed or caught" was in his head upon awakening. So he did what any songwriter would do... reached for whatever he could find to write it down with.
    Jerry Jeff Walker had a minor hit with this song in 1975 and it's a favorite of the Unsung Heroes!
