    I got a quote for $250 to fix my vintage 146, but I used this method, and it worked like a charm. The hardest part was fashioning a paper clip to fit the slots since mine were a little different. Thanks a ton!

    Thank you this is a well informed ‘show n ’ tell ‘. I use a small bottle brush to clean the barrel , very noticeably cleaner after reassembly , being able to see the ink in the ink window again. Mont Blanc are charging £200 + for a service!

    Muito bom. Até mesmo o erro serviu para orientar-me

    It's like this: the service at Montblanc for $80 always includes the complete disassembly, the centering of the spring, and the replacement of parts of the piston. In addition, new ink conductors are always used again.

    Please don't listen to this guy like I did and try the paperclip on the nib unit. Maybe it's possible but the margin of error is so slim that the barrel cracks before you have time to react. Expensive mistake. The paperclip method does work on the piston, but you have to exercise caution if the piston is resistant. If it doesn't unscrew with mild pressure, don't try to push harder. You will end up popping right out the sides of the slots, which are brass sheet thinner than a hair, causing ugly distortions which will need to be repaired--they prevent the cap from posting at all.
    If the piston won't turn, try soaking the entire pen for about 15 min in water. Mild, unscented, and clear detergent will help too.
    When you reassemble, make sure you set the piston so that the black plastic rod sticks out about 5mm at the end of its travel so that when the pen is assembled, the knob secures against the band when fully screwed down.

    I have two of these pens. The first one opened no problem. 2nd one is actually not giving. It seems glued or something. I did scratch the ring a bit, but was unable to remove it to lube.

    Disassembly is difficult but there are little tools available on occasion on eBay, quite cheaply to help you do the job, but the paper clip method does work well. Please remember though that once you’ve opened the pen, so to speak Mont Blanc will void their warranty.

    Used the paper clip trick brill - to strengthen the tool twist the arms together as this makes a tool worth keeping

    I tried the paper clip trick, but it didn’t work. Bought a tool from Germany for €30. Worked a treat.

    Hi, ***** I also have a plastic threaded 149. I am able to dismantle a 146 piston but the 149 seems very tight. I did not want to use too much force on it.

    Thanks. I'm still trying to get my paper clip just right but I'll persevere. A side comment about MB 'warranty' (and other makes as well). Many expire after only a year or two while my FP's happily last seemingly forever. If a warranty is not for the life of the item (FP in this case), I think it's mostly a scam to justify a higher retail price.

    What type of silicon and where do i appky it. Thx

    • @ziptrickhead
      @ziptrickhead  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’d recommend silicone used for o-rings and gaskets since they’re pure. Just need a little over the piston and then run the piston up and down a few times to spread it.

    Thank you for the video. Sorry for my English. I didn't understand. You seal everything with silicone grease ? And where I can buy that silicone grease ? And where I have to put it ?

    Hi, I just got a new 146 from eBay. When I tried to unscrew the piston, the whole piston assembly got unscrewed and came out. Is this normal for new pens? Do I need to send it to Montblanc?

    • @ziptrickhead
      @ziptrickhead  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +jsprite123 If you bought the pen from ebay you may not have any recourse for warranty repair from Montblanc so they will most likely charge you. It's possible whoever had the pen previously had removed the piston before and just didn't screw it back down tight enough. Try tightening the whole piston assembly by hand until it is snug and see if it easily screws again when you try to turn just the piston knob. If the positioning of the piston with the housing has been adjusted you'll most likely have to fiddle with it to get the most ink capacity like I explain towards the end of this video.

      Thanks for the info. I tried what you suggested a few times, the piston knob is lock shut. Most likely I will be sending it to Montblanc, as I don't wanna messed it up.

    Hi, thanks for the tip! Do you know of a way to remove the nib as well? I have a similar vintage 146.

    • @ziptrickhead
      @ziptrickhead  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I started to remove my nib unit with the same paperclip. Then I saw the original MB pink sealant and decided to screw it back in. I did scuff up the top of the nib a tiny bit inserting the paper clip into the slot though.

    • @joshp7961
      @joshp7961 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, I actually was able to unscrew the nib unit by just carefully twisting, grabbing the nib and feed with my fingers. Then I was able to knock out the feed and nib from the bottom of the unit by using an empty pen barrel.

    When you get the camera into focus, hold it there for a few seconds please. Your camera takes 20 seconds to focus and then you keep it in focus for less than one second.

    Damn those pens are extremely expensive and exclusive, it's like a Rolex from pencils. It is very scary to disarm it, you risk losing 1000 dollars if it breaks.🤑😨
