It's actually about raising kids. First he want to protect her from everything, then when he change song it's about adult child leaving house to start living on her/his own.
At least that's what I think. _Mother Knows Best_ is straightforward to always keep her in tower.

Is it funny song about parent overcoming fear of empty-nest syndrome and worries about his child, or is it only me being psychology student? But it makes perfect sense. Parent do everything to keep growing children inside home, than finally prepare her to start her own life and let her go (and sometimes meet again). Wild animals are just figurative expression for all troubles and dangers we will meet as adults.

The song is fun and catchy with an underlying sense of danger. Yet it's oddly true, I've wandered in the northern woods many times and you can encounter all kinds of insanity there.
