Why was Erica talking in hushed, portentous tones when she told the staff that Peterson was to sent to the psychiatric asylum? And the look on the officers faces when she told them? You'd have thought they would be glad to see the back of her!
Because they were sending her to a hospital for the criminally insane. Back then, that was a drastic punishment, and still is. The Australian mental health system could use fine-tuning. Read the Wiki about Thomas Embling Hospital in Melbourne.
Kate Peterson was a great character... I kind of wanted to know in detail what she did to Sandy though. I know she talked about it when Helen Smart was grilling her, but Sandy's sudden disappearance is just really hard to accept since we didn't even get to see the murder take place.
It drives everybody crazy to understand how she managed with Sandy. The most logical explanation is that she picked up the lid to the garbage can to fight with Sandy and she pushed Sandy into the garbage truck causing Sandy to drop the knife. The truck drove off with Sandy in it and she was crushed. I don't she her killing Sandy with a garbage can lid when she had a knife, but the lid could have acted as a shield and could have been used to knock Sandy. On the other hand it is less believable that she somehow managed to get the knife away from Sandy, stabbed her, picked her up and threw her into the back of the truck or the garbage can - that's unlikely.
They kept it a mystery because they were hoping that they could bring back the Sandy Edwards character at a later date, but apparently the actress was either too busy or unwilling to return.

John P Walters True. Meg did remain in the show for far too long. As you said, her entertainment value was poor and it got noticeably less and less as the series went on too.
John P Walters I think Meg would have stayed for a fair time longer had the show continued. It needed a good freshen up had it remained on, though, that is for sure. Joan was in it for too long as well for me. She was a great character, don't get me wrong, but it became unrealistic the amount of times she got away with foul play etc. Overall, the show seemed to get rather stale towards the end. I didn't enjoy the 600's a whole lot by comparison to the rest. It felt like it had ran its course and the ending was overdue if anything.
John P Walters I think sometimes they forget just how boring a character can eventually become to the loyal viewers of a show. Meg had a few interesting story-lines early on but really she could have left when she moved into the probation officer position. She could even have gone to Indonesia with Bob, but obviously she was very set in her ways and so carried on and on. I could never imagine being in one show all those long episodes if I was an actor, especially in a role like hers. Think it would eventually get very boring and monotonous. Didn't know it was just 23 episodes that she missed, that's incredibly low out of 692!
John P Walters I remember Elspeth starring in Neighbours during the 90's too, which was also a quite mundane role from what I can recall. Val was tremendous at playing Bea. She was one my favourite characters in the entire show. She was a great leader but also came across with equally fine acting when in a vulnerable state too. She left at the right time while her character was still being so well appreciated.
Glad Myra had a word with Mr Faulkner, as Bea knocked back two of his suggestions now with the newspaper (wasn't it originally going to be a newsletter ?) as he seems a generally nice gentleman for the most part (yes I know he was a naughty boy with Sandy-but who else was he going to find with the same haircut). His idea which Bea took regarding funding might have got him an extra star from Erica.
i like how bea took credit for the idea when steve offered to loan the money.....i bet we all know someone like that...sorry bea....he came up with the idea actually.
Kate proved to be quite a handful. Its funny how the more middle class characters like her and Kay White seem initially out of their depth in prison, yet they often prove themselves to be as tough or tougher than many of the more streetwise inmates.Margo would certainly agree (albeit reluctantly lol),she got her ass handed back to her by both of them lol.
I feel like they've tweaked the lighting again in this episode. They've mixed a few of the shadows back in, whilst maintaining a general level of ambiance so that you can always see everyone's faces.
Colleen certainly turned hot and cold. 1st trying to undermine Meg at every opportunity, then inviting her over for dinner with the family and now being so solicitous with Judy after treating the prisoners like dirt. In real life, you'd think she was on something.
I would imagine the writers changed Colleen Powell to be an acidic, bitchy character to fill in Vera Bennett. With Joan Ferguson about to arrive, perhaps they decided to tone down Powell so there was a balance between Morris, Powell and Ferguson
The actress who played Kate did an amazing job. I liked her antics in the beginning. But, I don't know, I think it was stretched out too long. I'm happy to see her leave now.
Not quite - but you have seen it before. A slight variation of the set was used for the Catherine Roberts character in the first season. She ran over her daughters attacker, ended up in Wentworth, and then disappeared to D Block. I think it was episodes 18 to 24.
11/1/20 - 6:56 - Dr Kate Goes wacko, part 2! 19:36 - Cuckoo! 21:49 - Full Wacko! Right Off Her Nut! 24:06 WOW! 36:03 - I love this scene! "She's fucking insane!". 40:48 - She leaves in style!
Loved the Sandy - Marie - Kate Triangle...My thesis.. I think Kate fooled everyone. I think the only way out for her after her trial was to plead insanity in order to get out - a risky angle but I can see her getting out eventually to lead a normal life. If you notice close ups of some of her last episodes she gives you a half smile or raised eyebrow (as if to say iv'e fooled you!) maybe the writers wanted to keep you guessing! At first I thought she went mad but now I think she's beaten the system and was really smart! - a great character played by Olivia Hamnett! as for Sandy unfinished business - but it was likely Kate Killed her BUT if Louise Le Nay was to come back the writers were going to say she had escaped from the Dumpster! - well that would have made it interesting. I would expect if that happened she wanted primarily to get back at Marie and hand Kate the knife! for Kate's protection, but Sandy would have known Bea or Marie would have got to Kate anyway - hence to let her off the hook! and cover for her escape.
A brilliant and enjoyable ‘thesis’ Russell 🙌🏻 I wished the writers would have given her an even more pronounced moment of ‘or have I actually just tricked everyone?’ as she was leaving. But your theory is one I shared, or secretly hope for. I wish we had delved more into her past and I would hope we might see her again at some point in the future… but sadly the self-important people in the comment sections who enjoy spoiling things for others have already loudly broadcast this was her FINAL appearance.
36:30 So sad seeing a once respected GP go into a childlike, full blown, mental break down. Olivia Hamnett really did a good job portraying these disturbing scenes.
30:51......I know it's only Doreen but that use of the shadow against the door was very effective. I enjoy it when the director gets a bit creative. And I think this was this director's first episode.
Wow.1st time saw it in late 80's early 90's I wasn't keen- I wasnt even a teenager then, almost a decade later videoing it in my early 20's realised how nasty she was. I would say your in for a treat in the not too distant future, if it weren't for the fact that your comment was posted 5 years ago . You must have missed her previously though as she is a character you would never forget. It's going to be interesting for me regarding revisiting it as I can again compare the original Joan with the Wentworth one as she will be returning to that series whilst I rewatch the original Prisoner
The Freak or NOLA would of killed Kate. Either that or the Freak would had her shipped to the loony bin anyway. Only if Nola didn't get to her before hand. 😵 🧤 🗡️
I'm kinda not looking forward to Joan, although some of the greatest ever conflicts are caused by her. Then again it's a prison drama not a show about happy unicorns so I should probably welcome it.
Joan would just grin at her through the spyhole and tell Steve, oh its all taken care of and tell him how wet he is behind the ears as she's dealt with Kate's type up in Queensland.
@@davymania700 Who said this show was about happ unicorns lol? Hello Kitty I'd totally be pissed if I didn't receive what I was promised but unicorns? Pffft.
26:45 Crikey Lizzie, are you thick?! Don't tell Doreen the paper won't be censored. Don't you remember how Doreen screwed it up for everyone the last time they stopped censoring things in Wentworth. Also, with all those escape attempts, was Suzie Driscoll taking Doreen's 'stupid pills'? Maybe that's why they moved Doreen to maternity - they realised that having two so intensely thick people in such close proximity for any length of time would cause irreparable damage to the space/time continuum and could cause Wentworth to disappear into a black hole of stupidity. Also, I see Meg has has given her hair a more blonde tint.

Going to miss Kate Peterson... 'Doctor Kate Peterson. What a memorable character :'( although, she did in Sandy, who was also formidable :'(
... ta-ra, Dr. Death. Brilliant character, fair dinkum
She was good as my other favorite baddie Kay White, who also taught a few things to Margo and outsmarted Bea as well.
The smile followed with , Goodbye...I hope you'll all be better soon... pmsl :)
I would tell Colleen to piss off if she tried being my friend after all of that.
@@rosslamb6643 She did have her moments, didn't she?
A bit of a Jekyll and Hyde thing going on at times.
@@karennicholls2296 I would say she is a bit mental
I would imagine the writers changed Colleen Powell to be an acidic, bitchy character to fill in Vera Bennett. With Joan Ferguson about to arrive, perhaps they decided to tone down Powell so there was a balance between Morris, Powell and Ferguson
I grew up reading Enid Blyton. Interesting to see she got a mention in this episode.
So did I. I collect early copies of her books and still read them when I feel in need of some nostalgic comfort.
I am very happy Lizzie and Doreen is back
Wonderful Kate Peterson 💞
Kate would have been the perfect eyes and ears for The Freak.
That would have been Rodney Adams, he was a proper lil ratbag and bent screw.
Farewell Creepy Peterson !
Glad she didn't kill Judy !
Wentworth is like Hotel California. You can leave anytime you want; but you can never leave. No escape. When is Suzie going to learn?
The actress who played Kate did an amazing job. I liked her antics in the beginning. But, I don't know, I think it was stretched out too long. I'm happy to see her leave now.
Is Janet Conway’s house eventually Joan Ferguson’s place?
Not quite - but you have seen it before. A slight variation of the set was used for the Catherine Roberts character in the first season. She ran over her daughters attacker, ended up in Wentworth, and then disappeared to D Block. I think it was episodes 18 to 24.
Kate Peterson finally tips over the edge. Fabulous acting by Olivia Hamnett RIP
11/1/20 - 6:56 - Dr Kate Goes wacko, part 2! 19:36 - Cuckoo! 21:49 - Full Wacko! Right Off Her Nut! 24:06 WOW! 36:03 - I love this scene! "She's fucking insane!". 40:48 - She leaves in style!
"have good time in the rubber room" brilliant
Fletcher is the father of Janet Conway child. She's only been with Ian less than a month.
It could have been the barman at the local!
TICK TICK TICK TICK!! lmao
I’m good to miss the good doctor so much. One of my favourite characters in the whole run of the show.
have a good time in your rubber room LOL
Two seconds & Janet has got through to the doctors! Crikey I'm lucky if I get through in fifteen minutes 😡
I reckon janet was trying to trap Ian Marni so he wouldn't leave her like jim. First the marriage, now a baby! 😏
36:30 So sad seeing a once respected GP go into a childlike, full blown, mental break down. Olivia Hamnett really did a good job portraying these disturbing scenes.
Bea: thanx mr faulkner but no thanx... this was OUR idea................. actually it was HIS lmao xxx
Does Doreen really have to come back
Yes
So if Judy can be fine after being strangled like that why can't she fight? ? As expected it's just an excuse as she's a coward.
Bye Kate, you were Prisoner gold
I love this scene were she's in solatry talking to herself I will miss her when she goes and start s screaming
Every department always gives on one hand and takes on the other .
That's life. However, where there's a will, there's a way.
30:51......I know it's only Doreen but that use of the shadow against the door was very effective. I enjoy it when the director gets a bit creative. And I think this was this director's first episode.
the Freak must be arriving soon, hope she's good, don't remember her from the old days.
Yikes... It's one thing playing a part, but actually looking like you're insane must be quite disturbing
The Bad Doctor was one of the real high points of the entire series.
Imagine all that carry on with the printing press when today's prisoners simply fire up Microsoft Word (jail edition)
Kate Peterson, Nola McKenzie and The Freak would have been great together.
And Bev Baker
The Freak or NOLA would of killed Kate. Either that or the Freak would had her shipped to the loony bin anyway. Only if Nola didn't get to her before hand. 😵 🧤 🗡️
Later on Kate Peterson would be joined by Cass Parker, Phyllis Hunt, Angel Adams, Pixie Mason and for a short time, Reb Kean.
And Merle. They should haul Doreen off to the looney bin with Kate.

Love Lizzie she's A Gem, R.I.P Lizzie
Beauty sleep Lizzie? You need a coma lol
Cooorrr!! Bladdy cheeky young bugga! 😆
Hey don't you be talkin' about my girl Lizz like that! She must be protected at all costs.
Meanwhile, Miss Ferguson has got off her TAA flight from Queensland and going to stay at the Bonanza motel till she finds a more permanent place.
I wish Joan Ferguson was in it already she would sort Kate out
I'm kinda not looking forward to Joan, although some of the greatest ever conflicts are caused by her.
I agree with all above except for Susie bit 😉
31:13 Doreen & Susie look like sisters :D
They look so much alike. I dont think they are related, wow....they look like Doreen and Lil' Doreen lol
Kate's going to the ' giggle palace ' ( Kew asylum. )
janets kitchen looks alot like joan fergusons kitchen when she was looking after shane.
