Very simple and reliable machine! There's one coming up on an auction near me in a couple weeks I might be looking at. There's also a 62T baler. Thanks for the overview and now I know some things to look for! Dad was an Owatonna dealer for a while and still has an OMC sign above the door to his old shop. Very familiar with the oh-so-attractive colors of the brand! Thanks for video!
Cool haybine! I have never seen an older mower with the steel crimping rolls. We have an old John Deere haybine we keep around for a spare in case our discbine breaks down. John Deere parts are a little more expensive!
Farming with my Dad in the 1960's, he had Minneapolis Moline and Oliver Tractors and equipment, but I shoveled a lot of ear corn into his Owatonna grinder/mixer.
there were not many owatanas around here the color i guess. but the ones i seen run i was impressed by them. my dad had a ford that was simuler to your. it done a great job.it had the steel crimper. nice mower you have there Jake.
Howard Younger ya I’ve never seen one here. All new holland. Ford i think was built by owattona also. If I ever got a mixer mill I’d prolly look for an owattona. Thanks for watching
One more thing! Don't know if you watch other TH-camrs but one guy, Mike Less, does a bunch of stuff on farming. Here did ones yesterday on a farm I think was in Ohio and owned by the Mayer family. You would like it because it showed old equipment and several Whites, that were one of a kinds and a lot of Oliver stuff. Just an idea.
What more could you want? Simple, straightforward design, well built and reliable as well. Is the sickle bar equipped with serrated knives - I imagine so. Are the fingers that the sickle passes through like those on a combine header as I imagine the ledger plates wear quite quickly especially if your in a dense grass crop?
Dan Whiteford exactly! Yes it has serated teeth. It looks like a combine sick from the 1970s. 3”cut. It prolly would wear out quicker but since I use it on such small acreage it’s hasn’t shown much
I like equipment as much or more as I like tractors. I think it's pretty cool that at one time you could of had an Oliver everything from lawn mower to feed grinder.
Nice haybine Jake, I had a neighbor that had an Owatana haybine , and a fab shop did build him a new steel roller for it. Your right, the colors were ugly but the machiene was very reliable and easy to repair. I've commented before about my JD 70 skidsteer. It also was built by Owatana. I heard they became the Mustang Company. I have a Gehl chopper wagon, but so far have not had trouble getting parts. Great looking Oliver equipment. One more thing, didn't White sell the Oliver baler line to Hesston. Believe I read that somewhere. Take care, See you next post.
Scott Viers thanks man! I remember u saying that. Have u had any trouble getting parts for it? Ya in 74 white sold the hay line to Heston. And now it’s all Massey lol
No problem getting parts. There is a spring on that wagon that is prone to breaking about every two years. The last time I ordered one the parts man said they had six in the warehouse, I ordered them all. It was interesting to see all the different packaging and logos over the years. Like a time capsule. Take care Jake.
They made feed grinders and Windrowers too jake. They were pretty darn good machines. You could definitely see the neighbor comin down the field though. Pea green with an orange wood reel. 16 ft with an air cooled 4 cyl Wisconsin. Have snow yet jake? Take care
D Ness ya we’ve had snow proly 10” total. Ya if I ever buy a mixer mill I’d look for an owattona if I couldn’t find an oliver one. Ol Wisconsin V4 what a dandy engine LOL
Looks like a nice machine. Thanks for the review. Too bad you don't see any for sale these days.. at least not in my area. I've been thinking about getting a haybine for a while now.
Denny's Country Life thanks man ya there rare I’ve only seen 4 come up for sale and one was mine. They usually go for around a grand. I don’t think I’d go back to a sickle mower. U will like it
Tractor Guru thanks! I think it helps it dry faster in alfalfa. I used to have to rake after mowing with the sickle mower so the ground would dry. Then I’d have to rake it again. Now I only have to rake it once. Thanks for watching
looks pretty nice our hay mower is a Kuhn gmd 902, so its german lol, and people seem too think german engineering is pretty good haha lol the owatanas are pretty popular around here it seems like, about everyone around who had a swather was a JD or a owatana lol when are you going to get 207 rake? complete the hay line up haha
C&J FARMS ya I’m not terribly impressed with German stuff. I didn’t know they were that popular. Well I keep waiting for the RIGHT deal to come along since I don’t need a hay rake. Lol
hahaha lo And you have VW lol Yah The sale we went too last lear, with the 9400 JD, and 67 baler, that guy had 2 of those windrowers, and my neighboor had one also, idk if they still have it, it sat on a hill along the road buy there oats field, but i dont know if it ran, it sat there for a while, buts its gone now.

I enjoyed the overview. Lots of good information about it too, I always like hearing that. Stay safe.
crslyrn thanks for watching man
Nice overview of the haybine and history /sources of machines, plenty of farm "mousers" in the shed.
Cool haybine! I have never seen an older mower with the steel crimping rolls. We have an old John Deere haybine we keep around for a spare in case our discbine breaks down. John Deere parts are a little more expensive!
DeHaven Family Farm thanks man ya I like the steel but don’t see them any more. Ya JD ain’t cheap
Farming with my Dad in the 1960's, he had Minneapolis Moline and Oliver Tractors and equipment, but I shoveled a lot of ear corn into his Owatonna grinder/mixer.
KiotiHamada cool! Thanks for watching
Another very informative video. Can't believe how much knowledge you on this stuff. Keep them coming.
Mark Mortensen thanks for the comment I appreciate it
Thanks for the overview. Glad you can get parts.
Interesting thank you sir.

nice machine them steel rolls are really nice. haybine couldnt wait?? now i wanna cut hay!! lol
Michigan Farming thanks man! Haha I know I’d love to go mow with it

I broke a table float spring this past haying season on my jd 1209, where it attached to the table. It was $400
I like equipment as much or more as I like tractors. I think it's pretty cool that at one time you could of had an Oliver everything from lawn mower to feed grinder.
Sam Talley ya I’m the same way. Tractors are cool but to have the not so common impliments really get me excited
Nice haybine Jake, I had a neighbor that had an Owatana haybine , and a fab shop did build him a new steel roller for it. Scott Viers haha wow! I’ve done that before too just buy them all. I bet they had them from all ages
My neighbor has the Owattona version of that mower!
Northern Wisconsin Farming cool!
They made feed grinders and Windrowers too jake. They were pretty darn good machines. You could definitely see the neighbor comin down the field though. Pea green with an orange wood reel. 16 ft with an air cooled 4 cyl Wisconsin. Have snow yet jake? Take care

I kinda like my steel rollers in my new one....better than using scissors to cut hay.
Ted Kahler haha that would be slow goin
Built in Owatonna Minnesota
I agree,ugly paint colors
Cousin still has a Oliver(Owatonna) self propelled haybine
Top speed 8 mph down the road
Gleasoncenturyfarms Gleasoncenturyfarms cool! Didn’t know they made the self propelled ones for Oliver too
Thats a cool old haybine! Does the Reel and the conditioning rolls make a big difference in the hay quality? Compared to just a regular sickle-bar?
Tractor Guru thanks! I think it helps it dry faster in alfalfa. I used to have to rake after mowing with the sickle mower so the ground would dry. Then I’d have to rake it again. Now I only have to rake it once. Thanks for watching
Jake Ziegler Okay sounds like a better set up to me!
looks pretty nice our hay mower is a Kuhn gmd 902, so its german lol, and people seem too think german engineering is pretty good haha lol the owatanas are pretty popular around here it seems like, about everyone around who had a swather was a JD or a owatana lol when are you going to get 207 rake? complete the hay line up haha

C&J FARMS Kuhn is a France compagny.
jacky bruckers; Kuhn is in-turn owned by a Swiss company Bucher.
Those are bullet proof machines. But what ever happened to ghale sorry if I missed spelled it.
Minnesota oliver and deere they still make skid steers just discontinued the Farm line
Jake Ziegler ok I've just been used to see ghale all over southern mn when I was a little kid then gone now that makes sense to me
My hay mower keeps breaking the knife head I think it’s time for a disbine
When do you plan on getting a self propelled mower? I hear John Deere makes a real good mower conditioner.
think that cable lift is the same on the old ford haybines.
edit its the same dan thing
DLK HAY ya it is. They were made by owattona too I think
