  • We often get the question "Are your trikes safe to ride?" and we understand the concern. With a lot of our customers coming from either disabled or injured backgrounds we want to make sure everyone buying a trike is aware of not only what dangers there are to riding but what measures are taken by manufacturers to make sure you are safe while riding. Harold takes you through all of the information and concerns we have when it comes to riding recumbent trikes.

I would add that the rear-facing radars produced by Garmin (I bought a Varia RTL515 a year and a half ago). Coupled with a rear-view mirror, I am able to focus on the path ahead while having increased awareness of the traffic behind, including not just motor vehicles but bicycles as well. They notify the rider of traffic approaching from the rear starting about 150 yareds behind me. I think these radars have been a wonderful development for cyclists of all kinds! There are 3 different styles, with details and reviews on the Garmin website, Amazon and various TH-cam videos and blogs.

Have a rear-view camera here. A rear-view radar would be hugely better!

@@garyseckel295 The newest Garmin radar has a camera in the unit as well. Might be worth your while to check out. I think the model is Varia RTL715, but don't quote me on that 😊😊😊!

The most vulnerable time for trikes are cornering at speed to avoid tipping over, emergency stops, stopping in too high gear, getting stuck on a slippery surface, and riding in traffic - particularly at intersections and parking lots.

    70-y.o., limited-mobility handicapper here.
Not able to get on/off my multiple tadpoles for 15 years now.
Ride only my multiple Hase delta planform trikes now.
25-inch, highest seat-height option on my newest Hase Lepus.
Easily slide on/off even if wheelchair, and/or, forearm crutches.
    Most suspension under rider's torso.

(Handicapper once a gearbox, never again any cassette!!!)
Never outgrow a delta planform trike.
Grow oldest on a delta planform trike.
    Over 30-years recumbent experience here.
Did notice an in-shop delta in your video...

I ride a trident trike (green) with a green reflective flag and a yellow helmed.
Also I have almost every time my lights on. And a reflective sidebag.
But I ride what people are thinking is safe. Even I have some trouble being seen. 4 times is a short distance. So keep aware of your surroundings.
I also ride a normal two wheeled recumbent and a green velomobile(QuattroVelo) But there are better seen out of experience. (Even when people are thinking my velomobile is too low and too fast. People are always saying it, that indicates that I'm actually been seen)
I'm from The Netherlands. And I would like to have one of your fattire Quads with a flatbed. Maybe in a few years that I have the money in you send them.

Be Heard! Get a horn/bell of some sort that will make you heard when necessary. LOUD is the way to go!

Visibility even in day time. I run 2 very bright Red LED's to the rear and a While Lumina 750 forward. I suggest using it in flashing as it is more eye catching.

Ironic that the first cut after discussing helmets shows a rider without one ...

Too bad not one manufacturer wants to build a titling trike like the AR-3, why???

Three minutes into the video and so far, I don’t see high visibility flags, I believe I’d need three or four tall ones, preferably reflective: and I’d also want lights, front and rear and very bright. Safety?!? I don’t want to be crushed under the wheels of a semi truck or a bus or a large SUV. 😫😩

No flags, hi-vis clothing, helmet, lights! Am I to take this video seriously?
