Thanks Film Companion for this round-table. It is always helpful when mainstream reviewers and film makers talk about short films. It helps in creating awareness about this format of content, something we at Pocket Films truly believe in and have been pursuing.
The interviewer did a wonderful job!!! She kept the positive vibes all through with out offending or interrupting anyone!!! I have seen her in a couple of interviews and I think she is the best to do this!!! and about the discussion itself, it definitely did bring out lot of challenges and other dimensions involved in short films. And it definitely helps the beggeners to be prepared better. Thanks for this wonderful interview!!! Sharing it right away :)
Hi Shrikanth! A big thank you from team FC. It is great to know that you found this conversation enjoyable and useful. And thank you again for sharing it too. You may like to check out some of our other work too and if you like it, please do subscribe!
Great! Desperatly looking for this kind of talk on Short Films. and its here! and more great thing is Anurag is there! ye aadmi kahin bhi mil sakta hai! kisi bhi batcheet me. Hats off to you Mam!
one more thing, Creativity is not always to make things complicated, sometime creativity is to make complicated things easier. When someone says, you don't make films to earn money. Do something else, than why someone has to become a filmmaker and study it as an art, if the last thing get is that your art's doesn't keep you running. there are filmmaker like Anurag Kashyap and there is a filmmaker like Rajkumar Hirani. They both are directors and one makes easier movie that you love to watch every weekend and the other makes a movie you find still interesting but a one time watch only.
so many good points brought up here. totally agree with Devashish that it's good that short films haven't been able to crack monetization because that will certainly affect them creatively..best video on the channel :)
Really enjoying this 'ADDA' series. Great job on the variety of questions, topics and as always, quotes and references. It's so interesting listening to these guests and their different POVs, as well as some awareness of new short films to check out :)
Such a nice candid session. +Film Companion great job guys. Loved the discussion and each ones opinions. What a great note to end the session. :D Superb
It's an intelligent way of shooting an interview as barista style, I loved it. Anupama Chopra ma'am, my favorite interviewer who always do research before putting up questions and confusions, not like other TV news media...Keep up the great work!
poonam they clearly said that short films are not for making money and they cant...so the attempt to make money out of them will only end up spoiling the short film the director has in mind....
I completely agree with Preety Ali, that short films needs to be monetized or else it won't make sense for people like her to put in money where there are no returns, the money what branded contents makes will be able to cover the cost of a good quality short film, Devashish and Anurag seemed to had fixated to their opinion and did not listen to what preety had to say.TVF makes branded content but don't see anywhere quality being compromised
This is by far the best video on Film Companion... Brilliant content... Kudos to the team and the one and only Anupama Chopra... I'm intrigued about this genre of films now... Hope to see more videos on short films...
We need more adda's like this ma'am. An engaging conversation, gained a lot out of it. And the lines by Richard Brody was a perfect end to this very interesting conversation. Thank you for bringing this to us.
Brilliant discussion. Covered most aspects of short films quite holistically. In 30 minutes I understood a great deal about the 'science' of short films from the perspective of - actors, directors, producers, audiences as well as how shorts are flourishing through their interaction with the rest of movie world, especially the feature films. So thank you Anupama for bringing some great exponents of shorts together on one table. My only fear comes when I draw parallels of shorts future with the fate Hindi pop music of 90s met in India. From no where it suddenly connected with and won the hearts of Indian millennials but as per one conspiracy theory it was strangled to death by the fim industry for the threat it posed to the film music. Any argument from Anupama to allay such fears would be most welcome. Cheers, Shaz
This was a very interesting conversation. One major difference to the advantage of short films is the way they are promoted by the audience themselves. On social media where each person is connected to 600 other people, when they share their feedback on the movies (many a times including the links to the movies); these films end up being self promoted. :)
@30:30 AK predicted future in 2016 itself.. now its almost 2025 and "Anybody who creates the content is king.. Short format.. different from short films"
First of all, i like to stand up and clap (thankfully no boom mike above me) for ANNU MADAM for bringing very important topic for discussion which is usually neglected or misinterpretate by most. for me short is a baby which is free from restriction, ambition, fear, loss and u need to be a good baby sitter to become a successful film maker. For me short film is about story telling in shorter duration but with challenges like limited resources, no financial assistance so obviously u have to compromise on quality in a way not trained actors, guerrilla shooting, audio quality, not original background score, continuity issue in editing and many more.... but i m glad audience looks at short to know what film maker want to say instead of technicality of film making and that's a big motivation for all short movie film maker. Today after watching your video, i m so touched and bit emotional that i like u share my story with u. We (my brother and friend)started you tube channel 'Jollywood films' in Dec. 2014 with only one aim of telling good inspiring story. in a process we have too many obstacles (thankfully money is not one of it). like to share few with u We didn't know abc of shooting. firstly, how to get equipments as they were asking for high deposits. we some how manage it and then didn't know how to operate dslr. We infact shoot few scene and later discovered that camera was not on recording mode. We hired a camera man who actually shoot marriage function. as a negotiation package we had convince him to work with us with little money and in return offers him main lead role. At last moment actor didn't come for shoot so we have to convince real auto rickshaw driver to play that part in our short. We were always look for 2-3 continuous holiday in a calendar year so that we can do our shooting (so no holiday from work) We was editing on our laptop on adobe premier but system crashed as we had to do editing all over again. We had convert our home and office into shooting studio with my mom handling catering division and office staff handling production and friends, relatives, neighbour aunty and uncles r playing character roles. After working tirelessly for 10-12 hours a day, we have to spend sleepless nights for editing. i will never forget it as its one of my best moments. editing at office or sometimes at friends place and then travelling in mid night back home, then again wake up in morning to go back to work.... honestly no complains life is difficult if u follow your dreams but its definitely worth trying... I never experienced this joy, happiness in my work which i enjoyed working on my short films. it is so fascinating to learn the process of film making. all this become possible because of short films so i owe to it... i don't know the destination but i m surely enjoying the journey. thanks Jayant Gupta
Dear Jayant, Thank you for watching the Short Film Adda and then sharing your experience with me. I really appreciate it. The short films (not online) are the real best, especially top festivals nominated.
