This is a very special episode of me. Because Devashish is a very special person in my universe. And it's my small effort to acquaint the world with his mind and his idealogies. Hope this episode stays with you. TW: There is a emotional story in the episode which talks about suicide so please be mindful as you watch.

have been an avid fan of the channel and have consumed all the content over the years. One piece of advice: When someone speaks of suicide, kindly phrase yourself better next time. "Deep Stuff" "Oh Dude" might get you gen Z appreciation, it won't make you worth remembering; especially when you start the interview with emphasis on the sanctity of the spoken word. Just an advice!

We need to see more work and interviews of Devashish Makhija. what a man! So authentic, so honest. I want to listen to his artistic voice, I want to see his rage come alive on screen. I have watched his short films and will visit all his full-length feature films. Devashish you go, Man! I am on your team. And your experience with how your urge to write a poem saved your life. Art is both your killer and saviour. I have been there in some ways and have been rescued by my own creative instinct.

'Toote huye dil se sangeet nikalta hai' question should not be asked anymore. It's not at all a question. This line came from a popular movie to justice the storyline.. that's all. when you are talking some very serious topic and suddenly this kind of question appears, that drag down the level of the seriousness.

This interview is a MUST for every aspiring storyteller. At 39, I am allowing myself to restart, believing in my love for storytelling again. I am divorced, and I live in Denmark, trying to juggle so many relationships, which often makes me question myself a lot. Devashsish's words about his abusive relationship with himself have really made me aware of what my therapist constantly keeps on telling me about "hiding behind my passion".
I've learnt that in the end, no matter how passionate you are, a solid support system is a must. Creating amazing stories is one thing, but being a healthy person, able to tell those stories, should be The Priority.
I am gonna make sure, I chase my passion, while still having a solid support system because I have been a lot in the dark zone he talked about and its just a mater of time, if I don't do something about myself, I will pull the trigger.
Thanks for putting up this interview. It was more about life than Filmmaking. 🙏✨️

It is true that till the artist releases his creativity in some form cannot rest and when he creates his full moon he will slowly die because he has nothing to serve and doesn't look for any validation in anything after that. Idk how to start, I would probably say that I haven't watched your films and i really don't know if I ever will. It is like you can relate or feel like that person so much that you are scared of even engaging with their art. Same thing happened to me with David Foster Wallace, I have listened to all his interviews tried to manifest him in me but just can't pick up and read his book. Ever since your first interview in this channel I followed all that I could find and learn about on internet (obviously) your first interview here was so enlightening that it changed me (but it didn't also) yet everything you said feels so familiar even now here. From holding up that rage against the system to getting on the brink of suicide, maybe I am not there yet as you are but all these emotions all of these thoughts of Feminine Gaze and fighting for the rights of marginalized feels so familiar. It is so hard to find someone that you can see your reflection even it is partial. Then when you mentioned your DoB I just couldn't hold myself to comment here and appreciate you (idk how to though) there is so much to learn and I feel I am stuck with my rage and I don't want it to dictate all of my art. If there ever is chance to meet and observe and learn alongside you I feel I would just leave everything here and run to that place. Idk if I am articulating that well but thank you anyway. More powerrrr to you and Chalchitra team for this.

I generally don't comment after watching anything. But here I feel like I should rather I must.
This conversation didn't feel like an interview (if it was at all intended like that). It felt like a deep philosophical dive into experiences and perspectives. We all face almost the similar things in different forms, and they end up defining us, fortunately or unfortunately. Devashish's usage of the word"Rage" felt like a disobedience against that. He thrived against what life threw at him. Through his own ways. Amazing conversation guys. Thank you.
This will take some time to sync in. Keep them coming irrespective.

My show got cancelled for Joram today in Jaipur. People didn’t turn up for it, and Animal craze literally killed my only way to watch it.

In my opinion Devashish Makhija altered the meaning of what is market dictated and what is more true to being art. In a way he made the right decision to bring the father daughter relationship because that is the the eternal truth of human existence. The politics was not. I disagree that artist's first allegiance is to his her politics. Absolutely not. An artist's allegiance should be to the truth and to the world. Activism is a death of art. An artist must empathize first staying above the activism. Only then he she will be able to see the truth in everything.

The interview was great, the journey of Debasish is inspiring.
But, I stuck with one thing, debasish's voice is quite similar to Dhruv Sehgal.

The fight against...... 🤷 I feel that there is a lot of complicating things by themselves happening here.... Example : Koko made Geeli puchki for the anthology and many saw that. It would have won short films Oscars, this that...... A story teller should tell stories to listeners not for just those useless awards or any....... Just coz Koko shared her work with people who have the power to show it to majority of people who want to see, many saw it.... Though their way of marketing and showing films as films are different.

i agree. in fact her short coming in an anthology reached out to the whole country's viewers. unlike a short that does festival rounds and barely finds a release channel. thank you for this perspective. perhaps i did complicate this unnecessarily.
