Subterranean Dialogues
By Richard Meyer
Item: 00-49940
Series: Highland/Etling String Orchestra
Grade 4
Subterranean Dialogues, by Richard Meyer, is an edgy-sounding selection that is the perfect piece to feature your advanced string bass section while keeping all the players in your orchestra on their toes. The music unfolds as a series of dialogues, each a duet between the basses and a different section of the orchestra---violas, second violins, celli, and first violins. The wide variety of time signatures, shifting modes, and unusual orchestrations will challenge all of your musicians and delight your audience while putting the unsung heroes of your ensemble in a well-deserved spotlight.

I've always admired Richard Meyer and I love his music for actually making the bass a part of it instead of just being a lower cello. As a double bassist myself I always love seeing basses getting melodies and not being overlooked as much. Good piece!
as a bassist i agree! bass melodies are the best
Ikr
I play double bass in my Freshman orchestra, in middle school I got to play a song called Moon Bass, which focused on bass section, and it was a highlight of the year
As a bass, this is my dream song.
we
The bass part tho 🥵
Yes.
Dawg 💀💀💀
@@Shami_mann shut up the bass parts are godly
As as a cellist, I couldn't agree more
Another certified banger by our boy Richard

Common?
I am a violinist I said W
Vanishing Pointe and Swamp Thang had a baby
viola solo though
If my school did this the violas would be terrible
I don't know exactly how to put it into words, but this piece has so many spots with insane beats formed by the interconnection of the different sections:
0:29 - 0:45
1:35 - 1:41
especially 1:47 - 1:55
the violins contrasting with the viola at 4:00 - 4:07 is really good
same thing at 4:20 (D:) - 4:27
totally agree with the section at 4:00
Bro this is fye🔥 the melodies are addicting. Great job Richard Meyer
Cello Squadron for the cello player, Subterranean Dialogues for the bass player. Richard Meyer knows equality for the clefs.
Viola? I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just genuinely intrigued.
@@stonkybs, Waltz of the Wicked isn't by Richard but it has some interesting viola lines
@@user-op8br9uv6o Oh sick, thanks!
I also play viola, Pioneer Sky and Argent Edge have good viola parts, Although I have yet to see a song that is specifically designed for violas.@@stonkybs
Cellos olè is also another cello section feature. As well with. Viva violas.
One thing I love about Richard Meyer pieces is that he makes 3/4 not a waltz, examples include Incantations, Emerald Falcon, and this piece as well. I have a bad habit of making waltz when I compose in 3/4. So I admire him for that. 😅
The ironic thing is that the 3/4 is actually a waltz and is marked valse which is French for waltz
And it’s also a pretty rare thing for Richard Meyer to use French tempo markings more are in Italian and once in a blue moon, English.
Anyways, you are correct about his other pieces, having the similar time signature, but not actually being a waltz
I absolutely love this piece!!!! My middle school played it for the last concert of my 7th grade year! I have really fond memories of this piece
Bro i graduated 3 years ago. I PLAY BASS 😭
This is such a banger on 1.25x
