    There are only a few groups in the world that do what Munro and Associates do. Their opinions are worth gold, even if you disagree. There are few engineers in the world that have the credentials to make their disagreements worth considering.

      @FlorestanTrement ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Credentials are irrelevant. The arguments are everything. Credential are not arguments. Arguments of authority are not arguments.
      The only reason to listen to one is the lack of understanding and of time to learn enough of what is argued when you need to choose. Although it's a good trick as you can't be knowledgeable in everything. But it's always a risk.
      It's very unlikely to be the case for Sandy, but most "experts" and "professionals" are completely incompetent. Just look at the media or Wall Street.

      @@lachlanB323 I disagree. Every new argument should be considered. Every old one should be at least somewhat doubted.
      Whoever doesn't will risk to be incapable of ever changing their mind when shown wrong.
      Coincidentally, that's one of the things Sandy tried to teach his audience.
      It seems that, instinctively, most people will only change their mind based on either strong emotion or the word of the person with a higher social status they like. Like kids trusting their parents. We should trust what makes sense more.

    Cybertruck will take advantage of some of the new unboxed assembly method. Specifically the doors with interior trim will be made separately from the body in white.
    Cybertruck is supposed to have a 3500 pound load rating where the Ford Lightening only has 1500 limit. Directly because of the weight difference.

    • @Bora_H
      @Bora_H ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 'Unboxed' process shown by Tesla is so much more than that. Not having a paint line is pretty huge all by itself.
      'Unboxed' is going to require another year to finish design and engineering. Strength is going to be tricky, and I think they didn't want to wait even longer to deliver CT. Making 'Unboxed' and 'Exoskeleton' work together will take some serious work!

    • @whattheschmidt
      @whattheschmidt ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Bora_H While it may not be fully 'unboxed' I guarantee it's going to be at least partially used. 48V low voltage system means they are likely using POE connections. Those would be quick and easy to each door and so why wouldn't they assemble most of it off the line then just pop it on in an extremely limited section of the main assembly line? We know how the Austin Model Y's are made. This truck will be made with more advances than just that.

      That's what I heard as well. 8000lbs puts it closer to the rivian's weight, and some cybertruck photos showed three amber lights on the front which is required for a truck over 80 inches long for US DOT standards

      Nothing has a "polarizing look". Polarization is in people's heads; not in the objective reality. And so-called "taste" changes by itself, unexpectedly, with people who chose to be slaves to it. It is like with nutrition; I tell most of my friends and people I know to stop eating sugar, bread, wheat products and starches. 90% of them say, paraphrasing, "I CAN'T; (because) I LIKE IT". Slaves to taste. So they go on until they are diagnosed type 2 diabetic, and once forced to cut down on sugar and carbs, suddenly they discover they didn't like them _THAT_ much, after all ... Those are also their advantages. People don't seem to realize the biggest customers of their trucks aren't the people buying one truck. They are buying 50 trucks or more. When my company orders trucks they order hundreds at a time. The box of the cybertruck is unique, but it makes absolutely no sense for people that are using it for work. If a company has hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of accessories for their fleet they don't want to get rid of them to have to buy all new stuff. The dealership network also means if something goes wrong it's more likely that we can get parts quickly and have somewhere to send the truck if our company mechanics can't fix the trucks. Also ICE won't be going anywhere for a long time. It's easier for us to get fuel shipped in when we are building in the middle of nowhere. Until we have our natural gas pipelines in and power generation up and running we are running off generators. I build the infrastructure to get the materials needed to build evs. It's some of the most challenging environments in the world for a vehicle to deal with. The phrase "the coldest place on earth" is not uncommon to hear where I'm at.

      @@pin65371 _The box of the cybertruck is unique, but it makes absolutely no sense for people that are using it for work._
      I don't understand. *Why* isn't the Cybertruck suitable for a work environment? Because it's bigger than the F150 box? Because it has 110 and 220 volt power outlets, plus an air compressor built in? Because at the press of a button the bed can be closed off for security? Because the Tesla bed and side panels are stainless steel and will never scratch or rust? Because there is a built-in loading ramp for heavy items? Because the Tesla has a load capacity more than 1,000 pounds greater than the F150? Because the Tesla costs less than a comparably equipped F150?
      I admit, those are all compelling reasons not to buy a Tesla if you are going to use it as a work truck, but I have to wonder why Tesla has two million pre-orders for a truck that can't be used that way.

    • @pin65371
      @pin65371 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@douglasburnside Because it has one way to access the box while the F150 has 3. The F150 hybrid has up to 7200 watts of power out of the box. I can also put a box cap on the truck that can securely store whatever I need and is cheap since millions of F150s have been built so the aftermarket support is established. The Cybertruck is for people that would buy a Hummer. The whole rust thing is over rated as well. I work in mining and our trucks arent all rusted up. Our trucks get beat up pretty good and still a running strong. We have a whole graveyard of trucks that have been rolled and hit by heavy equipment though.

If I need an impact gun I can go to the passenger side back tool box and the impact gun is hanging there and the impact sockets are stored in a pull out shelf so I can quickly find what I need. Someone who goes to work for GM or Ford doesn't do so to disrupt, but rather because those companies appear much as they were generations ago, with a bare minimum rate of change. The companies' pasts suggest that they think that they can put off change by noisily making some "new" technology, then saying oh well that didn't sell, and thereby make it go away. A company like Tesla actually making it work foils that, but still their focus is on "make it go away". Also that of the unions, asking the government to make it go away (as though the government is all that big a factor in what's happening; the "goal" of 50% EV sales by 2030 appears to be simply an extrapolation of what's already happening (smart that)).

    In my opinion, legacy automakers face significant challenges due to their outdated leadership, engineering, and practices, as well as their existing dealership/sales setup. However, the Cybertruck seems promising, and I can see it making a big impact to the truck market if Tesla gets the pricing and range right. I get what Sandy states in his analysis. It's insightful, and he praises the Cybertruck's potential. While its unconventional design may be polarizing, its advantages, like lighter weight and improved handling, could be game-changers. The success of the Cybertruck depends on other factors, like towing capability, charging convenience, and how well it addresses market demands. Tesla's lead in the EV market and dealership-free sales approach give it a significant advantage. Nonetheless, it remains to be seen how legacy automakers respond to this disruption. I don’t understand why people would buy a 50k car with a 25k mark up. People don’t think about the you will have to pay for an additional $347 a month for the next 6 years just because the dealer thinks that the car is worth more because of demand. Now people are getting their cars getting repo or stuck with that car for a long while. That’s part of the reason why a lot of people aren’t buying anything right now. Unfortunately, all the union car company dealers can’t do anything about the dealers doing that.

    If Sandy is right, the Cybertruck will be 2,000 pounds lighter than an F150 Lightening, but will also be much stronger and have much more cargo capacity. The reasons are structural battery pack, large castings, strength added by the stainless steel body. The Cybertruck also has a much more streamlined shape. The biggest factors affecting range are air resistance at highway speeds and weight. Cybertruck should have much better range and performance for a given battery size.

      I don't know about that. The weight of the tow vehicle has a lot to do with its towing capacity. It isn't just power. You don't want a light weight vehicle that is pushed and pulled all over the road by its trailer and weight has a lot to do with traction, too. That is why you don't tow a heavy trailer with a Chevy S-10 even if it has a 400 hp V8. Try to move a heavy trailer with a light weight truck and you will just spin your wheels. And to my understanding, Tesla vehicles prefer narrow tires. That could be an issue.

      @@JupiterAscending2 I ran a snow plowing service with the old 1960's Power Wagons, worked construction and did light logging. That was back when you could order a 600 series truck cut down from the factory to fit a 3/4 ton body. Never was slothful enough though to mud my trucks (since I was paying the repair bills myself and wanted them to last a long, long time) which is the same for most truck owners today who use them more like station wagons than I did. Most people who own trucks today will likely never do anything close to off roading aside from a trip to the garden center to pick up some potted plants and such after which they might take it straight to the detailers or perhaps have them come and clean it for them in their own driveway. The Cybertruck and most others have to target the mainstream buyers and not primarily those after a work truck.
      Most modern truck owners would find a real work truck intolerable with its vinyl floor mats, vinyl seats, limited body side molding, basic radio, plain steel wheels, 16 ply tires and heavy multi-ton payload capacity.
      The Cybertruck will appeal to the majority of modern truck buyers and not those in niche markets looking for work trucks or heavy tow vehicles. This changeover in demographics was brought about by the truck manufacturers themselves when the presented pickup trucks and SUV's as a much safer alternative for moms going out to pick up the groceries which was basically false advertising and really just a plain old deception since it was more to be able to sell higher profit vehicles that didn't have to meet the stricter safety regulations imposed on regular passenger vehicles.

(Sandy also said his wife indicates the Rivian is the best vehicle she ever had, and she has a Model Y too!!!) But the problem with Legacy OEMs is their Leadership and PRIDE. Tesla has offered every car maker all his Patented Portfolio for them to use at will when needed, and as far as I know, NONE of them are taking advantage of this. All of them want to stay in the past and use their legacy procedures, and re-invent the wheel for their EVs, just that theirs is a squared wheel, while Tesla's is Round. Tesla has many advantages in the Business model that no Legacy OEM like GM, FORD or RAM will catch Tesla in the next 10-15 years And at this moment, regardless what my buddy at my side thinks, TESLA IS THE STANDARD FOR EVs AND THE FUTURE!!!!

    I hope Tesla comes out with a variant That addresses long distance towing range. if you make a vehicle with a competitive range with a smaller battery pack, towing range will suffer. I would hope to see a 450 to 500 mile range from their top spec if only to allow acceptable range while towing. The Silverado which is not very efficient has a huge battery which give it 450 miles of range. that equates to about 250 miles when towing. which is about 100 more miles than the F150 Lighting. Perhaps a trailer power train can be made to boost range when trailering so the base vehicle doesn't need to always carry around unnecessary battery weight.

      @@tabbott429 The Lightning won't even really do fairly light duty towing... A 5K pound camper and only 100 miles of range. While most 1/2 ton truck owners don't go around towing max weight (thankfully, as a 1/2 ton can barely do that safely), a lot of them do a dozen times a year or so of a 2-3 ton tow. I strongly agree with the idea that there needs to be an option with a big enough battery to get at least a couple hundred miles of towing range with a reasonable trailer. While _most_ light truck buyers may never tow, I think a substantial minority do tow. At least 2/3rds of the trucks I see have a towing hitch installed, which implies at least some degree of towing.
      But realistically, we might end up in a world where everybody who tows ends up buying a diesel, and the gasser market goes all electric.

    1st year Cybertruck will probably be very expensive as maybe only the top tier trim level is produced with 3 or 4 motors… maybe $100-$110k because I think Tesla is taking the position they will be profitable from Day 1. They have enough orders with enough fan base to charge as much as they want the first year, perhaps longer and people will pay it. Tesla will not take a loss like Rivian, Ford or Lucid and price the Cybertruck for profit now, not later. Starting 2 or 3 years down the line I think we’ll see lower priced trim levels going down to $60k or so.

The Cybertruck is 231 inches long and so is the apron on my house. Pushing the garage door inwards will allow me to legally park my truck. If the truck sticks out pass the sidewalk, I can get a big citation. Also I will make a device so the Cybertruck tire can land onto thus preventing the truck from going pass my device. This will make it easy to backup without destroying my Garage door. It will all work out. Lucky I have crazy construction skills. After retirement, I remodel 2 homes in Los Angeles for my son. It was no small job, I removed all the vertical studs an replace with new studs then shear wall with plywood. This was a low budget job but an expense modification that meant. The GM and Ford way seems to be to make something new with big fanfare, not sell many, and then assume that'll make the new thing go away, because the barriers to entry in the car industry are high. But Tesla's years of work on production, automation and supply chain, as well as making the direct sales model work, have put them where they produce and sell large numbers, profitably, with designs that make most competitors' offerings at a similar price pale. The drone fly through video of the Berlin factory tells the story visually, and the social media posts of buyers describing how they preferred the Tesla buying experience tell it in story fashion. You can't depend on barriers to entry, like production, supply chain and dealer network, against a company that already has the best selling car model in the world. But there's still no "turn the battleship" level of change that would be needed for GM and Ford to catch up, rather than merely distract consumers, lobby politicians, and hope it goes away, even though that didn't always work well in the past. A competitor with products perceived as better, able to build and sell profitably at far less than it costs you to build profitably, with the ability to lower prices while still expanding production and remaining profitable, doesn't go away with a small GM or Ford side project for a few years. But that's all one sees.

I knew Robotaxi was not going to work as it can't work as it is designed, it needs an overhaul and more internal sensors. Many of the preorders were by people wanting to use the cybertruck as a Robotaxi and preordered 10 of them as they thought they could send them out to earn money while they sat back and raked in money. A lot of the preorders will disappear when it comes time to pay in full. People will snap them up but I expect a lot of issues with it's off road ability as that is a completely different segment to build vehicles for. 4 tonnes is a heavy off road vehicle to bounce around. I expect breakages in many of the early versions.
