Bear you are a You Tube superstar! The main reason is you come across so real. Keep up the great work. About 9 years ago my neighbor in the country gave me some Yellow Moon and Stars seeds to try. I reluctantly planted them as I did not think a replacement was around for a Charleston Gray. Needless to say, the Moon and Stars did not replace the CG but made a fantastic addition to the menus and I grow some every year. ❤
Daniel, thanks, I don't feel like You Tube superstar, but that's a great compliment. The Yellow Moon and Star are great. I never had a Charleston Gray. They are just too many watermelons to choose from.
@@GrowSomethingTasty You are right about too many varieties to choose from. I have been growing watermelons in my home garden over 45 years, Charleston Gray set the standard for the sweetest to grow in our area. In the home garden never had a problem with pests or disease. However that changed when I expanded to planting 500 to 800 or so plants. I quickly learned with help from our county extension agent and trial and error that the new hybrid varieties could be very good and much more productive. I kept planting CG as pollinators for my seedless plants I grew. I quit with the seedless a few years ago but still plant some CG. I never found a seedless variety that matched the flavor of seeded melons.
Thanks Michelle, hey I thought I was good because no one said do a live until now, O the nerves. Michelle I'm a Rookie at all this. I will let you know when I will do the live.
Woo! Would you look at that!😱🍉 I will have a wood chip garden. You know my Momma mad. She said she want a good yellow meat watermelon.🤦🏽♀️ Awww, thank you for the channel support.😁 I appreciate you my soil brother!
I like the woodchip garden. This is only my second year with it. O no you have to grow her some yellow melons. I gave my mom hers already. I think I have two more and a couple of red ones. Anytime my soil sister! Now how do you get the nerve up to do a live. One person said she want me to do a live so the good news is it won't be that many people watching.

I just brought one in today and I think that I cut it too early. I waited 85 days and the melon had lost its tendril. The stem was still very green but I cut it off anyway. I have NOT cut into it yet but I feel like I should have waited longer. Wish for the best.
Hey Brandon I did not see your message my bad. I hope the tendril fell off because it was dried up. I hoping your melon is ripe and sweet. Let me know how it turns out. Do you have anymore melons on the vine.
Hey Bear, I tried growing watermelons this season and I’m having an issue with leaves getting tiny white and black spots then falling off from the base of the vine up until about 10 inches from the fruits once the fruit gets to a certain size. I’m also having an issue with the fruit growing and then getting soft. Any idea what might be causing this and how to fix it?
Hey Tyler sorry to hear about your melon plants. I have no idea what that is. I was looking up some things but I don't. Hey are the white spots bugs? I know I have bugs eating my leaves now but my melon patch is coming to an end. I did get another 20 pounder in today. You said the melons are getting soft, are they turning color at the ends? I know if melons are over ripe they will turn mushy. I will think about it some more, sorry Man.
@@GrowSomethingTasty Hey Bear, I found out the problem was over watering which was causing the plants to develop powdery mildew. I fixed it by cutting back on watering and adding nutrients to the soil and trimming some of the vines after taking a tip from your video

I’ve been using my dry mango leaves around my plants also
Leaves are great and I use to bag them up for trash pick-up. NOT ANY MORE!
Beautiful melon!!
