It might just be me but I love this angle. It is gut wrenching to see clark actully get hurt by stuff people say about him. How much it affects how he acts. He just needs a hug
Great review! I haven’t watched the show myself, but I have been curious about it, and I really enjoyed your breakdown! That’s supposed to be Slade?! He looks like a K-pop star, and isn’t he a more Batman centric villain?😂 Have you ever heard of Smallvile? It’s an older live action show that’s actually about a teen Clark Kent figuring out that he’s an alien with superpowers, and his best friend Lex Luther trying to prove himself to his corrupt father. I’m only around two seasons in, BUT IT IS SO GOOD!😱 Seriously, the writing is amazing. (Love your new background for your character btw! Super cute!💖)
16:10 Jimmy was annoying in the comics too In his own 1960s comiv series his claim to fame was being friends with Superman and half of the stories were about him recieving souvenirs from Superman, and somehow messing up with them
Same here. I am a transformer girl as well as a fairy girl. I would squeal if they have a fairy transformer. Hey old folklore fairies were hardcore and weren’t always sweet nor weak.
I'm definitely curious about that whole 'might have started as a children's show' thing. The whole show feels...sickly sweet. Like, I get that they're going for a good-natured superman but he's also supposed to have other personality traits. The Supes from STAS was at times angry, mischievous and sometimes seriously tempted to kill...he never did but his ability to avoid the temptation and even save the lives of those who were trying to kill him seemed a bit more heroic. Now that show was not perfect either but it wasn't cloying or saccharine.
as a fan of Supes who adores how big of a boyscout he is, I'll have to get to this when I can. Injustice, Homelander and adjacent projects are cool for what they are, but I don't buy the insistence that he's too boring a character to tell stories compelling stories about. Captain America worked very well over the course of his MCU arc, and a lot of that had to do with his optimism!
Eh, never explicitly said they were boring, just that I personally find this take more interesting-But for every story, it always comes down to how you tell it, not just the premise. A good story teller can make any story interesting if they know what they’re doing
@@PinkiemachineStudios oh no i'm not saying you were specifically. there's just a tendency in comic communities to dunk on my boi cause "he's OP" or whatever. this was a very good video! and if anything proves that there can be plenty to chew on even if he's kept simple. (and i'm totally with you on the Snyder angle as well.)
Rhapsody from the future here. I am now aware of Smallville’s existence. So… I guess “Clark’s past being much more of a mystery element” has been done before, if not exactly the same, but played for the same end result…
A show i'd really love you to check out is Camp Camp! it's a lot better and more mature than other adult cartoons. It isn't afraid to be crass or out there but there's a certain amount of restraint they have. It never goes too far. That, and it makes time to actually have some genuine heart. Season 1 is like season 1 of Steven Universe in a sense that theirs bits of story that becomes more and more apparent as the series progresses, its story, characters and hidden lore so so interesting and it’s filled with mystery, epic story arks and emotional moments that I’d seriously call it one of the best animated shows ever made, too bad it’s criminally underrated, not many people are all that aware of it, despite is having a fandom that adores it.
Glad to see I wasn't the only one pointing at the screen being like: "Look! It's the Galra Empire" half expecting Keith to do a cameo... btw. Studio Mir animated this (yep the same studio that did Voltron- even Clarke looks like Shiro's "canadian cousin" hahaha I'm sure they used a few character designs and pre-viz from voltron for this show
Just watched your review and I agree on some of your points. I just finished season 2 with my daughter and it is the only superhero show she likes. If you watch season 2 it is a jump up in quality and writing and fixed a lot of the issues you have with season 1.
Clark’s depiction in the show is very comic accurate and even helps with his secret identity as no one can believe this goofy doofus could be a powerful protective leader….but he can and he is
Interesting video. It's definitely well thought-out, going into depth about the characters and the animation (the latter of which I did notice but didn't focus on as much as the former). It is nice to see a more upbeat Superman, and I'm glad you're liking the show for what it is despite its issues. That being said, I'm more apathetic. Part of me REALLY wanted to like it, if just to see a kind Superman, but I never got past the premiere and a few clips here or there (most of which had little to do with the villains). Aside from the reasons you've already covered about the characters and story (which mostly match my own), my issues were the sudden attraction between Lois and Clark (less to do with their personalities and more how they were obvious so attracted to one another from episode 1 instead of a steadier build up, e.g. how Lois was so concerned about Clark after only knowing him for an afternoon at most), and how the worldbuilding was presented. Admittedly, I'm not a big DC fan, but it would've helped had the show done something similar to Static Shock (which is the only DCAU show I've ever completed). That or Kamen Rider Kuuga and Kamen Rider W. Mostly because how they all show the characters meet, access their powers, tackle their respective antagonists (minus the mass-murdering monsters from Kuuga and gang violence from Static Shock), etc.
This video is great. Here is what I have for you. Animation: I love how absorbed all the knowledge of animation. I noticed how the field is going way downhill with it's influence from anime. Not to mention, it's choppy. I hate choppy animation Characters: That schmo with the blond hair is definitely not Deathstroke/Slade. I know how you feel about the Gorilla and Robot being a thing. I mean COME ON!!!! That chick(?) was supposed to be Livewire? (insert the tantrum from The Fantastic Mr. Fox) Mister Mxyzptlk. (gasps; yells in Gilbert Gottfried's voice): OH! There's a big surprise! That's incred--I think I'm going have a heart attack and DIE. WE ARE NOT WATCHING DRAGON BALL Z PEOPLE! (normal voice): That Megalo-whatever is a reference to Evangalion. Again with the anime influence. Writing: The could have been better. I was half asleep halfway through the show. And Yes. MASCULINITY! BRING IT BACK! Bonus: Thank you for reference Peter Cullen. Love how much of a nerd you are on that. Optimus Prime since 1984 was always kindhearted. But in battle, he was always on the go. Like most of episode of G1 not PRIME, he'd be shooting hoops with Spike. Watch the 80's show to understand, but yeah. Optimus Prime is the kind of character you want as an uncle.
@mdtisthebest6249 she had the audacity to give Clark the business over hiding his secret ...when she had prior stated her goals of exploiting him. Made Amber (s1) from Invincible look rational
Looking back on it now, I think I might give it a flat 6/10…

Slade Stroke Death is a Teen Titans villain, but Batman stole custody of him. After the TT 2003 series made Slade primarily a Robin baddy.
it was originally on Cartoon Network but it was moved to Adult Swim for whatever reason (probably so it would have a chance to survive over there)
16:10 Jimmy was annoying in the comics too

WHOW! Your a Transformers fan?! Female Transformers fans are so rare. So happy I subscribed.
Not really... but yeah.
Excuse me, I'm also a Fem! Transformers Fan hello?!😅😭

I think this is a great review. And I do agree with the negatives and what they’ve done to my boy, Slade, but overall, yeah, this show was amazing.
I like this young Slade
You're alive!!!😄
Ps. Thank you for introducing me to Amphibia. 😊

Yes bring back masculine. Not that toxic kind, but the real kind.
Aside from Lois (who is THE worst), i enjoyed it

You should also review Season 2 when it ends. New sub! Love ya.
S2 review in the future ? 🤔
I do disagree with some of the points and a few do feel nitpicky but overall good vid
Great video, man 😌👍
when are you gonna review season 2?
Very similar to the she ra reboot, probably why gender swapped heatwave still looks like a man
Thanks for voicing my grievances with Clark's lack of testosterone
Not my Lois
This reviewer is giving “Not like other girls”
Never got that vibe from her and still don’t. She is just expressing her opinion. I don’t see her shaming other women.
2 shit takes in the same comment section? You should be ashamed
...Sounds like a feminist show. 0_0;;
