    I was looking for techniques on registering multiple blocks for the same print and this technique is fascinating! I especially like how it doesn’t require any extra equipment other than a bit of cardboard :) lovely design too

    This video taught me so much in such a short time: cool registration process, the advantages of being able to see through your paper, keeping your cuts minimal and clean!
    I only wish I could see more of how you handled some of those sharp corners and stops but thank you for such an informative demonstration!

    Beautiful! Thank you for sharing your process! Can I ask what you're using for a carving surface? I'm just getting started and find battleship gray pretty hard to carve.

    • @ElRonan
      @ElRonan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I use battleship grey. It helps to warm it up if you're finding it tough to carve. You can leave it on a hotplate for a minute or two if you have one, or for a budget option, leave it sitting in the sun for a bit before a carving session. It shouldn't fight you too much though. It could be your tools aren't sharp enough.

    Very cool to watch; thanks so much for filming this. How do you make sure the print is centered on the paper? It seems like you’re using the edge of the cardboard, but the Lino isn’t centered in the cardboard...this is something I haven’t been able to figure out yet 🤔

    • @ElRonan
      @ElRonan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I am using the edge of the carboard. The lino isn't centered on the cardboard, but the edge where I'm lining it up accounts for the 2 inch gap I want all around, and then the paper is sized accordingly. I hope that makes sense!

    • @ElRonan

      Thanks! I'm using pfiel tools here. They're wonderful, but on the pricey side. I would recommend taking a look at flex cut tools. They've got some really nice basic sets for not too expensive. I think their classic palm set is around $85.

    Great tutorial, thanks. As a complete beginner, I think I'll have to watch this quite a few times to work out how to print 2 colours. I find it really difficult to visualize the process in a methodical way. I suppose it's a left brain vs right brain sort of thing, but this has been helpful. More tutorials please. Thanks again. 👍

    How would you do this with fabric instead of paper?

  • @phillange166
    @phillange166 ปีที่แล้ว

    Beautiful work... proportions, line width, detail, and a sense of fulness and space, excellent art.
    But... your gouging practice with your fingers in front of that razor-sharp blade scares the hell out of me. If you find a board and drive two nails into it, they will hold the lino in place while you steady it with your free hand at a safe location.

    • @ElRonan
      @ElRonan  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My process works fine for me. After years of doing this, I have good control. I don't like the non-slip methods, they don't give me enough space to move the block around, but if it works for you that's great. Working small means there's not as much risk with slipping in a major way, but I understand that it looks dangerous from this vantage. Thanks for your concern, I have yet to cut myself though.

  • @marshallross3373
    @marshallross3373 ปีที่แล้ว

    What brand of ink do you use? My first attempt with Speedball black seemed to lose some of the finer detail. I'm thinking a thinner ink would work better at picking up the tiny details, but I don't know. Cool video, btw.

    • @marshallross3373
      @marshallross3373 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, do you clean the lino's after use. I'd imagine the ink could build up after drying, and make the block unusable eventually.
