- This video is a continuation of my trip report on a Virgin Australia B737-800 Business Class flight between Adelaide and Sydney. After arriving in Sydney, I have a long layover and decide to do a bit of flight simulation at Flight Experience.
I return to the airport in the evening for my flight (EY455) to Abu Dhabi. I have a look at the Etihad check-in counter in Terminal 1, before having my boarding pass reissued at the First Class counter. I then head over to the Sydney Etihad Lounge and enjoy a meal there before boarding my flight.
Once on board the A380, I review the First Class Apartment product. It's absolutely an amazing product that currently is the best First Class hard product in the sky. The size and the quality of the Apartment is simply stunning. I sample a number of items from the on-board menu, surf the net on the plane, and take a shower in-flight. The First Class bed and the on-board lounge facilities are looked at as well.
The video ends upon landing and arrival at the gate in Abu Dhabi. However, it is to be continued by a trip report of my Etihad A380 First Class experience from Abu Dhabi to London.

I'm far from rich, but had the opportunity to fly Business Class with my wife to Europe with Etihad on Virgin points. I asked how much it would cost to upgrade to First, and was told it would be $800 each. An unbelievable bargain! Every bit as good as this report, except that I skipped the champagne and had many glasses of the Premier Grand Cru Bordeaux.
Superb videography. Most TH-camrs do not get this right. No shaky, sudden turns to make me nauseas. Excellent editing and especially the music! What a treat this video was to watch!

One time I was sitting in economy on an old plane and water started leaking out from above the window onto my lap. That will be the closest I ever get to getting a "shower" on a plane.
Hopefully it's water and not something like hydraulic fluid :s

Ethiopian Airlines almost killed me and my three friends in the 90's. we were traveling from Kenya to Cairo, Egypt and had to stop in AD, Ethiopia for the connection. our travel agent didn't tell us there was unrest (revolution) in Ethiopia. Not only were we almost arrested at the airport because we paid for a drink with USD ( we just didn't know) but then in flight to Egypt the back door of the plane cracked open and there was slight pressure loss. The flight attendants stuffed towels in the cracks and said "don't worry" My friends and I ordered drinks and prayed for all on board including the chickens and various fruits and vegetables in the cabin. NO JOKE, TRUE STORY. I should write a book! Seems like they got their airline up to today's standards!

Cabin crew here, this video made me teary eyed during the 2020 Pandemic. 😢
It's so tragic what's happening to the aviation/travel industry, but COVID19 will be a temporary thing and in time we'll have this virus sorted. There'll be a time when we'll be up in the skies again :)

Half way through watching this I realized I'm out of Ramen, but luckily I got paid today so I can eat this weekend.
I fly all the time domestic US for my work and I'm thrilled when I get a first class upgrade which here means I get leg room and a wider seat. Yeah free alcohol and meal but really just give me some more leg room and I'm happy. This is the result of a Middle-East airline funded by oil and the oppression of women. Yeah luxurious but also obscene. When he lands he is in a country where you don't see any part of a woman but her eyes we are so offensive.
A quick google search would show you that the UAE has a modest dress code compared to other middle eastern countries. Local women do not have to cover their face and they are extremely tolerant of foreign women dressing the way they want. Some women even wear bikinis. In fact lately, foreign women have been getting into trouble for not respecting the dress code. Not with men but with the local women. These women do not need rescuing. This is their culture. Take your SJW nonsense somewhere else.

Here in my part of Texas, I can get 5 packages of ramen for $1.00 and I saute some onions, carrots and celery to add too it for a pretty nice and filling meal. LOL,...I'm a gourmet chef!

Being a former Captain myself with Etihad Airways on B777/87 I am happy to see people do appreciate the service delivered by my hard working former colleagues.
Most people don't and are solely interested to get from A to B in time which is fine because thats our job.
Nevertheless its a nice gesture and makes me feel proud to have worked together with outstanding people.

I went on a first class United flight from Chicago to Los Angeles some 20 yrs ago and it was nothing like this. I mean, you had a nicer meal than economy class and 2 inch wider seats and plastic over smiling flight attendants every time they pass by you and that's about it. Etihad now charges $43K for 2 people.
Domestic first class in the US is quite different to international first class, especially on these new Middle Eastern airlines!
This experience was nowhere near the $43k figure you quote as this was the Apartment rather than the Residence.

It's the same reason internet is free at midrange hotels but an extra charge at high end hotels: the type of people who stay at high end hotels don't care about the extra charge.

I did this exact flight to Abu Dhabi, First Class and everything, only a few days ago and it was absolutely lovely! I loved that even though I was an unattended minor, I was allowed into the lounge, as most children can't go in without an adult.

Thanks for sharing the video, with those prices, my chances of ever traveling like that, are zero. I guess this is as close as i will ever be to first class. However, If I had a lot of money i would love to indulge myself traveling like that, its a world away from the sardine class i always fly.

Thanks for your comment Juan! I use a combination of the Olympus OMD-EM5, Samsung S6 and GoPro Hero4. Yeah, it is petty that they charge for the Wifi given the cost of the ticket - it's a practice that SQ mirrors as well. Hopefully they can absorb it into the cost of the ticket and make it free in the future...

This looks like an apartment, condo, hotel. I studied architecture in college one time, this is nice. Places to go to is important too. Long flights can be a headache, but once you get to your destination, then you can unwind and relax. I want a private ✈️. I want to visit Tokyo, Japan and Hong Kong one day. It just looks like there's a lot to do out there. 🚕
This is what First Class SHOULD BE!! I fly out of Sydney to London quite regularly, why would you fly with anyone else!!! Qantas' first class is MORE expensive and it's nowhere near as good. This is the kinda privacy you want, an enclosed space.
den525 Nah, first class should be rocketing through the sky at mach 2 at 60000 feet in a cramped seat with no headroom.
I used to fly Qantas first regularly and the A380 is mediocre for the price. Unfortunately I now have to fly Etihad which as you can see is a lot nicer and the service is better again. I would prefer to fly australian but this is cheaper and so much better. The alternative was to fly qantas but on Emirates aircraft.

It's included in the airfare...
I flew coach on Etihad and it was nice. Obviously not as nice as this or Business class, but way nicer than any other coach I’ve flown. The staff are super friendly. I was bumped off a flight from Dubai to the US due to overbooking and they gave me a 5 star hotel room to stay in until the next day, all meals paid for and free Lexus service to go wherever I wanted, plus a $300 voucher for my next flight.

This is how 5-10% of the commercial passenger load travels. I suspect the 0.1% privilege would be jetting around in private planes. None of the commercial riff raff to deal with ;)

On the Etihad A380 which holds 500 passengers, there are 80 First and Business class seats. That's 15% of the plane. First has 9 seats (or 11 if you include the Residence). That's 2% of the plane.
To be in the air for hours it'd be worth spending the extra money and going First/Business class.
depends on your milage and on other variables, i've seen prices around 5k for a seat, sometimes less, or more.

Weirdly, I just found out a couple months ago that passengers essentially die instantly in a sudden decompression - mercifully.
