I always enjoy your grocery hauls. Our tastes are so similar! My adult grandchildren are visiting from Florida, and I was startled by the cost of some extras I purchased for their visit! I feel sorry for younger families and how they're struggling with today's prices!

Denise I heard just this week that Smithfield was bought out a bit ago by the Chinese. You may want to check the label of ingredients especially noting bioengineered food which is not good.

Love long videos. When I was married and my daughter was home, I’d always clean the fridge out before I made grocery. But now since it’s just me I can kind of maneuver around that. I do give it a good cleaning but not as often as I use to. It’s always a pleasure watching, forge ahead and much Love.

Wait! What? “Made groceries!” One of my best friends from college talked about “making groceries”. We would tease her and ask her how she was going to make them. She just laughed and gave it right back to us. I haven’t thought of her in a long time. Thank you for this sweet memory. My friend was from Hazlehurst, Mississippi. And yes…clean the fridge before buying groceries but as I said, I was off schedule. I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Is there something in particular I can make for you?

@@homemakingwithdenise Hi Denise, i just enjoy seeing what other homemakers purchase at the store and their meal plans. It’s fun just listening to you chat about your grocery finds and your plans for what you will make that week. I was also recently gifted a freezer bag food storage that I’m excited to use, so it’s nice to see you using yours. I’d actually would love to see more cooking videos too! It’s motivating and relaxing to listen to while I’m cooking and cleaning in the kitchen.

Denise I heard just this week that Smithfield was bought out a bit ago by the Chinese. You may want to check the label of ingredients especially noting bioengineered food which is not good. Also just today heard that at Kroger etc the water spray that is constantly being done to fruits and vegetables has Appel or appeal in it which is very bad.

Denise, vacuum sealed food stays good forever! I wrap meat in parchment paper or put it in a zip lock bag (same with casseroles, soup, stews, etc) and flash freeze. Then open slightly and vacuum seal. This way, no liquid gets sucked into the Food Saver. I found a rib eye once that had gotten lost for almost 5 years ... can you tell I'm not a good manager LOL? It was delicious.

    • @homemakingwithdenise
      @homemakingwithdenise  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Hi Dannie, I like that idea and agree that vacuum sealed food will last a long, long time but…according to the FDA (I think it’s the FDA, the one that deals with food and agriculture) we should not keep meat frozen indefinitely. Now, whereas I will keep things frozen longer than is recommended, I just don’t share that. I try not to teach young homemakers poor habits. I try to be as accurate as possible so I don’t get the trolls coming after me. Once you get some experience under your belt you might branch out and try to do things a little differently and be okay but that comes with personal trial and error, But I hear you. I will admit I did try vacuum sealing after packing in a ziplock bag to preserve bags and oh my goodness…the uproar. And they were right. I wasn’t accurately following the process. I wouldn’t do that now or if I chose to, I wouldn’t encourage my young homemakers to try it. Hahaha! This was probably not what what you were expecting but it was a good “talk.”

Lately I’ve been eating salads. I put spinach leaves, a butter salad mix, mini cucumber, a meat like slice turkey, and cottage cheese. Since I’ve got some fresh tomatoes I’m adding some tomatoes.
My favorite salad is spinach leaves, butter salad mix, a few strawberries or blueberries, feta cheese, and pumpkin seeds with Ken’s vinaigrette. I really prefer the strawberries but since I’m now allergic to raspberries I have to stay clear of strawberries since I’m sensitive to them now. My favorite Ken’s vinaigrette dressing is the raspberry vinaigrette but since I’m allergic to them I can’t have anymore so the dressing I have to use is balsamic. I’ll even eat a mini cucumber on the side or even some carrots.

To prevent juices from getting on the edges of the foodsaver bags, i fold them down...like a cuff and then put items in the bag and then unfold the cuff. I also pack my ground meats very flat. It may use a little extra bag, but it thaws out VERY quickly and stacks nice and flat in the freezer. Uses much less space.

Hi Denise... my favorite tomatoes are the one's on sale!😅 But I do like the vine ripened med. Size.
That is a good tip on the grapes... I always keep a small bowl of washed grapes out on the table.. to encourage snacking.. and keep the rest .. unwashed ..in the fridge
Better than Bullion.. Yes! So glad I discovered that. 👍
As far as my fridge goes.. I am OUT of Control this week. 😮
We had family visiting and everyone liked something different... so now I'm eating through all what's left.
I know things are in there.. but WHERE???
Next week will be easier. 🙏
One should never complain about too much food right?

You know…I haven’t talked about it lately. I must admit I get tired of addressing that topic. And sometimes, I get accused of being an alarmist or a little crazy but I’ve been thinking I need to bring it up again. The economy is doing well but food prices are crazy so I must encourage my young homemakers to put something by. Oh…and I have been using from my extended pantry. I need to replenish much of it.

Ethel…I am sorry that your health has been so precarious. I am glad that you are finally on the mend. And Covid…OMG. Would you believe that I got Covid about 10 days before our vacation? I didn’t get it during the pandemic and after only to get it about three weeks ago! I luckily had a mild case since I’d had all my vaccines and boosters. But I will say I did feel absolutely miserable for a couple of days. I will say me and Micky Blue Skies think of you often. I told her you were hospitalized. Now about that sepsis…I’m glad God has provided appropriate care and treatment to bring you back to health. Have a good time on your vacation but do take care. Lucy
