    Wow. TH-cam put this video in my feed just 59 seconds after it was uploaded and processed. Talk about timing!
    It's nice to see you back. Those kind of defects are usually inside the panel itself, but it wouldn't hurt to reseat the cabling going to it.

    • @JR-yl8qi
      @JR-yl8qi 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not as bad as if the panel is de-laminating! Had a Panasonic do that, and it was annoying. Even the lines are bearable for a bar where after enough time, the screen will be too fuzzy to see the lines.

    Glad to see you posting again Bob. You have taught me so much. You are a credit to vintage TV and radio repair guys.

    I held off watching your latest video, just incase it was a figment of my wist-ful thinking of days gone by.
    😲 Then 3 days later you're still in my in -box, so I powered up my Commodore and, What a treat!
    Another Great Alley Way Recycle Show!. 😉😋 Seriously: good to see you are OK and back with a video 👍

    Good to see you back, you're my favorite of all the vintage electronics restoration channels. Hopefully the screen isn't the issue as I consider that a "deal breaker" when repairing TV's like that one, but if it is, you can always part out the mainboard and sell it. I did that with a 32" set I found which powered up, but had a seriously damaged screen

    • @bandersentv
      @bandersentv  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. We've been using the set a lot the past few weeks. After running a few minutes, the lines will disappear. But then another problem will start up where the screen will flicker and freak out. A whack or two will fix it for a while. Probably a loose connection or flaky T-Con board.

      @@bandersentv Don't feel bad, my brother gave me his 24" RCA which to his surprise was DOA when I tried it out. I replaced the mainboard and it worked perfectly but was upside down. Someone sent me a link to a TH-cam video on how to hack into the factory settings and flip it back over

    Bob, this info is from my days as an industrial engineer, charged with supporting avionics systems at the vendor, specifically Flat Panel 'glass cockpit displays', during the early phases of the 777 Program.
    What you need to look for, are either Kapton coated, gold-plated "display flex connectors", which are going to the display driver section, from the LCD itself (LCD is most often directly connected to the display flex output, and that side of the affair is very often potted in mastic.
    A gentle cleaning with DeOxit, of both the 'display flex pin connector' may cure a possible "interconnection switching issue", whereby the info being sent by the display driver is being lost through poor mechanical connection. I don't see the LCD as being the culprit, as their failures are seldom line-length, rather, they are usually individual pixels, or clusters of pixels, which result from delamination of the layered substrate.

    • @bandersentv
      @bandersentv  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you're right. There is an intermittent connection issue, I can get the lines to go away by tapping on the cabinet. Have not taken the back off but hoping it's an easy fix. TV works flawlessly otherwise.

  • @williamchow1624
    @williamchow1624 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Try running the TV for about 10-15 min. If the lines go away, you might be able to fix it (fixed for now but later???). The ribbon cable from the panel is bad and loosing connection. If the lines go away you can shim the ribbon cable to make the connection. Bottom line the ribbon cable on the panel is bad. Glad to see you back and good luck.

      I found a TV that left side was flaky like that. Once the TV had been on for half an hour the problem went away.
      I never bothered to fix it. That TV was also really heavy, like 50 kG

    Interesting find, I like finding treasures on the curb or in the alley, sometimes you can find some good items people throw away because they don't know what they have or how to repair them ,and some just wasteful. I have a Dell 24" monitor that developed lines similar, and I assumed it was a the LCD screen going bad, but they said it was most likely a faulty connection inside, which seems to be the problem. After it's on for a while they vanish or if I move the monitor around or tap on it they will vanish, which would indicate something not making contact inside, so you might just try cleaning all the connections first, could turn out to be an easy fix.

    • @bandersentv
      @bandersentv  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I brought it inside and ran it a while. It's just like you said. Lines vanished after running it a while. Tapping on the cabinet or flexing it causes them to go away or come back. Have not looked inside yet...

    Good to see you uploading again, more than likely a flatflex bonding issue between panel and vertical driver. Time to get in there with an insulated poker and start prodding! May be able to reflow with enough patience and precision. Good luck and 73.

    Hey Bob, That dry bar, when I saw it I thought the middle section was a roll of carpet padding or underlayment, lol. I have A 46" Samsung from 2012 myself. It's a smart tv but over the years the smart hub has lost more and more of it's functions as Samsung doesn't give it updates anymore because of it's age. It will still play on Amazon video but the youtube on it is gone which is a bummer. Also have a newer 32" Samsung and all it's smart functions still work including youtube. If you can't find a stand mount it was probably wall mounted and those wall mounts are pretty much almost universal. My pc's screen had those lines once upon a time as I think some windex got down behind the frame. Over time they went away on their own and here 3 years later I'm still using my 22" pc monitor I bought new in 2007.

  • @JerryWalker001
    @JerryWalker001 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Most likely a hot bar joint issue. They can often be fixed. Dave Jones (EEVBLOG) did a video some time ago on fixing this type of problem. Generally just try heating along the hot bar joints to try to re-bond them.

    Check the Caps, ribbon cable like William Chow mentioned and if all else fails replace the tecon board.

    it's a 1080i 32" screen with cold cathode fluorecent tube backlight and it needed capacitor so, 30 minutes of work and 5USD for some caps...

    I heard something about getting a glue gun and opening the front and cut some plastic pieces and glue them over whatevers causing the lines ..cause its touching plates its not suppose to touch....copper looking ones? ...hope this helps bro...when he press the plates in with his thumb...lines went away....so that's why he glues custom plastic cuts over the cause.

    Thx for the update. I have to agree with the gents down below and say it looks like a bad panel.

  • @ScottTV-yq2wu
    @ScottTV-yq2wu 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    That’s most likely not electronic and a connection issue with you signal ribbon cable in the panel. Sometimes it can be shimmed and restore the connection and lines will go away. Try lightly tapping/banging on top and bottom in the area. If you can get it to go away, you know that’s it. Electronic problems in the T-Con board usually produce bigger problems. Norcal715 has several fantastic youtube videos dealing with these kind of faults.

    • @bandersentv
      @bandersentv  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct! I brought it inside, let it run a while and a few lines disappeared. Tapping on the cabinet made them all go away. Ran it a few hours with no issues. Let it cool down and power it back up and even more lines appear. Tapping and flexing the cabinet would make the go away again. Time to take the back off!

      @ScottTV-yq2wu 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bandersentv Fantastic! Just be careful, they are very delicate. Have had several neighbors sets in the shop with the same fault and 90% have been able to fix. Usually a little light heavy duty paper...just short of cardboard...will do the trick. Again, I would advise watching Norcal715, as he has some EXCELLENT videos on this very fault. Good luck...and glad your back.
