      Muslims don’t they still think interest rates is usury? Christians centuries ago were told interest rates were usury which banks probably got around by charging fees and not interest rates. Haha zero percent interest just a big fee.
      Then ya got the Bible and Moses Ten Commandments saying theft is a sin. Bankers print money out of thin air. If they take $100 deposit and create $900 loans out of thin air it’s fraud basically. They don’t actually have $900 to lend out but keep 10% for reserves. It’s still theft though cause you inflate the paper supply of money in the system stealing purchasing power from others. It’s why gold and silver are considered sound money cause you can’t just print specie. But banks in the 1800s did a lot of corruption lending out paper and forcing repayment in gold.
      Read Murray rothbard US monetary history or the book creature from Jekyll island. It’s like wow. The central bank is privately owned paying a 6% dividend. How is that okay?
      So many Christians talk about how abortion is bad or murder is bad but then love to print money and steal purchasing power for endless war haha. The irony of religious people really makes me go hmm…

    As a Christian, money is a gift from God. I trust God: my needs are provided, usually about money, or something money can bring.
    My key scripture about it is 'The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want'. In using money, I aim to 'do all to the glory of God'.

      I'm not Jewish (was raised Christian denomination), but this seems, re practicality and attitude, VERY much how my frugal until it hurts parents, both children in the great depression, raised me.
      Just practical. Money was a tool, and your life would be enhanced over time by using it practical -- NOT wasting it or showing off with it.
      It's REALLY SAD that s many are anti-semitic, NOT because of anything Jewish people do wrong, but that they work hard and have values letting them EARN being successful. Like the Hutterites (an Amish-like sect willing to use technology to enhance their work productivity).
      I could never wrap my head around such mindlessness since I became aware one of my friends was Jewish in the 5th grade, and that he wasn't liked for being "different" by various kids (taught this by their families, I'm sure).

      @Andreasg725 Yes, historic Christianity has promoted poverty and helplessness. I lecture on this stuff from time to time. Raises a question-Why help the needy and destitute if it's spiritual to be poor? Let's face it: Jewish people value hard work, earning and building wealth, and choosing the right professions and right spouses for marriage. This leads to wealth and power.

    • @esther_18
      @esther_18 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @Andreasg725 not from my personal encounters in Church. I find this topic when preached is just too general and superficial at times. Doesn't target my needs with a balanced perspective, spirituality and practicality. Of course there are gems gleaned from the sermons but just never enough on money stewardship. I shared this with 2 friends and told them my life would've changed in my 20s on how to handle money if I've heard what Rabbi shared back then.

    Money is a byproduct of how many people you have served, how well you have served them and how difficult you are to replace.
    Love is a byproduct of how special you make another feel, how consistently you make them feel this way and how difficult it would be for another to replace you.
    Meaning that you have to give energy to others and then you receive the corresponding energy back in return.
    Have a blessed day everyone 🙏🏻

    I love you Rabbi Simon, I wish I could sit at the kitchentable having a conversation...ANd thank you for this channel, Eli!
    But Rabbi, "meek" does NOT mean "poverty". Being meek is not about being poor.
    Being meek refers to one's own humility as well as towards others. 'Humble' might be a correct synonym.
    Even so, it can also mean submissive. In relationship to God it is not being submissive through fear, but being submissive through love and wanting to please the person you love, like a child towards his parent.

I wouldn’t say he was obsessed with money and work but he wasn’t someone who showed that he cared that much about philosophy, ethics and virtue. I got the idea that a lot of Jews because to materially focused when they choose the be secular.

    Thank you for publishing a great conversation. I received a lot of helpful wisdom.
    I will say that the dreams I've had were important messages. More like, take heed.
    In a dream, I was dressed well and it was a sunny day. I crossed the street and it was gloomy and my clothing changed to rags. The money I had in my pockets fell out and I tried to grab it. But no matter how hard I tried, I wasn't able to grip it and hold on to it. Eventually, it sank into the ground. Then I started walking up a hill and it was light again. I came upon a church building. I stood outside, but I saw people building up the church. I didn't go in. I walked away and woke up.
    Would say that was a huge message for me.

    At 46:46 mark the Rabbi says that the Jerusalem Talmud states money that is not earned is called "bread of shame". He also says that man prefers 1 dollar earned instead of 99 that is given to him, and the great pride of earning money. How does the Rabbi square this with the concept of interest/usury? Interest is by definition not earning/working for the money you make. It by definition leaches off the person who is being used for usury. Same thing with landlording (especially these days with unreasonable and unliveable rent prices becoming the norm).

    • @James74T
      @James74T 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Usury is printing money from thin air and lending money at like central banks do. Lending money one has earned is immoral.

    • @ednorton47
      @ednorton47 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Why did the person borrow the money? Why didn't he do whatever he wanted to do without money? Why didn't he use his own money?

    • @nottzbulldog
      @nottzbulldog 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agree with @ednorton47.
      If we strip things back to the core, Interest is the compensation that is paid to me because my money has been borrowed by you and i can no longer use it. Rent is the price one must pay to use my property as i can no longer live in it. Interest is NOT by definition ‘not earning/working for the money you make’ - in fact, i toiled very hard for a long time for this money, and now you have borrowed it - is it not a fair deal to compensate me for my money that you are now using, that i worked for ? When you didn’t work for this money at all and now want to borrow it, taking away from what worked hard to use it for? Should i work hard for my money, and then you take it and use it without anything in return? Should the shop keeper go to the wholesale market and buy up goods and then sell them to me at cost price? Or should he charge a slight premium to cover his time for going to the wholesale market and for the risk that he buys things that I don’t buy from him. The concept of usury is tied to charging exorbitant and punitive interest for the money borrowed rather than charging any interest at all.

    • @onthebeatz
      @onthebeatz 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The answers you will get to this question are always evasive and convoluted. A flat rate interest of 10% would be more ethical than compounding/amortizing rates where people end up paying sometimes twice their original loan amount. How it is implemented/integrated today is absolutely non ethical, predatory and parasitic.

    Serious question on his comment about God giving more wealth to some than others because of trust: If God is omniscient, why trust to trust those whom you know (because your omniscient) would betray that trust? Why not give to those who you KNOW will do right? It is these type of seeming contradictions that reflect how limited our understanding is and the extent to which we've personified the Creator.

    As an Artist, when I feel the want to give back, I turn to things like Patreon, and Social Media Donations during Livestreams. I give Bits during Twitch Streams, and Superchats during TH-cam Streams. In this way, I feel I am giving to the causes I care about, in ways that I can see results from.

    This culture teaches their own about this as they grow up into adults, it's a shame we don't have the same guidance in other cultures.

    My first time watching (it'll be the last time if Ben Shapiro rapping becomes part of the intro). Out of curiosity, why does the host refer to the guest as "The Rabbi" in the 3rd person?

    Great great interview. Loved this one very very much. I wonder why I have been feeling for a long time that making money to go spend it at the mall on the weekends is something that never made me feel anything. I want to build something that will stay around for generations and generations to come. This episode made me realize what I really want to do with my time on this earth. THE VISION. Thank you 🙏
