I use Ludwigia for a newly planted tank/scape that needs to cycle. because of it's fast growth it's an ideal plant to keep off algae for the 1st month or 2 when a tank is vulnerable to it. It's a cheap plant too. I usually end up removing most of it once a tank is established. It's what i class as a utility plant. Very uselful.
I'm creating a red planted tank for white shrimp for contrast. It's looking really good and has that alien planet (Mars) look to it, especially with the red Africana substrate. I looked and looked on here and haven't found another like it. I really recommend red plants if you want a totally different look to an aquarium.
You can easily grow this plant in normal sand! I've grown (and i still am) growing all my plants in normal sand under a single cheapo T5 from the hardware store.

OK so I want to add some red to my planted tank. I don't have co2 and do not plan on adding it. the tank is 125 gallon. i have two 36 inch marineland led reef capable lights. the substrate is eco complete and i do use some of seachem products. so do you think i could try ludwiga ,or what would you suggest i do ? By the way, plant keeping skills of a beginner.
What about Ludwigia peruensis? I've got a 15 gal with CO2 and good lighting, and I was wondering if it'd be a good addition. The only think is if it'd overgrow my aquarium! I've already got Wisteria, Amazon Sword, and Dwarf Hairgrass in there, but I think some more red in the background would really make it pop!
I tried this plant it grew really fast but do not put hygrophila polysperma with ! Because ludwigia repens red or whatever will died they need the same substances but hygrophila grow faster.
I’m having issues with my ludwigias roots and stem rotting, I use fluval stratum substrate, aquarium co op easy green fertilizer, and aqueon iron and magnesium. Any suggestions?
Hey Jacob, good video man! I have a quick question for you, I got some Ludwigia Red Hybrid from my LFS a week back and I was wondering if you have heard of or grown that plant as well? It looks strikingly similar to this one except it's even more red.
Hey @JacobsAquarium I thought I wanted to ask you for tips, love your videos and with your knowledge I hope I can get help :) I have a 45g tank (160 litres) and for a while my fishes seem to be very skittish when turning lights on, all the time all the fishes tries to hide where they can :( except for my cardinal tetras, except they stay at the bottom constantly and is not high in the tank, and especially my new fish gold barbs they becomme very stressed and hide under the filter and in the few plants I have...... do you know what is wrong? Allso I am currently medicating my fishes as they just recently got infected by ich (white spot thingy) but the hiding problem started before that. I have tested the water very often recently and allso had the pet shop do it for me just to be sure and everything was very good...... I dont know what to do to fix this :(

I've had the same questions with people seeing my sand and asking why mine look so good and they can't grow anything in sand. I have to explain that I do every 2-3 days with Flourish, I put in 8 API brand root tablets every 2-3 months and use occasional C02. I feel like our videos are very similar, with yours being way better quality haha. I hope you checkout my channel because I'd really like your opinion on my tanks. I also subscribed to you, keep up the awesome videos, man! I also like your website, I'm just now in the beginning stages of getting my store up.
