the earth bands penultimate work , audio art , the most complex arrangement i have heard , dont care about any political ideaologies attributed to it , what else compares to the artistry involved .., tip , play it LOUD !
I listened to the (original Germany release) vinyl album some forty years ago, and have since then time and again had the ‘…no Bophuthatswana, no Transkei…’ in my head. Very cool to finally actually head this song again!
My favorite album of Manfred Mann's Earth Band. I have it on vinyl in two editions - German and US. Excellent music, performance, studio work, everything in this album.
I recall when the LP was released in November 1983 and the Toronto Star gave it a glowing review in the Saturday record review section. The music has been in my favourite file for 30+ years.
+Hugh May I agree. Also: this was the ultimate ANTI Apartheid album. Or (dare I say) the ultimate protest made by a white rock group. Where were the others? Their (probarbly) best rock album..and I LIKE IT
The four parts are: 1 - Brothers and Sisters of Africa 2 - To Bantustan? 3 - Koze Kobenini? (How Long Must We Wait?) 4 - Brothers and Sisters of Azania Interestingly, the original release ended on "Lalela" rather than on "Brothers and Sisters of Azania".
@@clasencoach I'm envious of people who can post links on TH-cam without being swallowed by the spam filter! Also, I spent quite a bit of time working on that Wikipedia article. 😀
@@clasencoach I just realized it's still a bit bare. All I did was untangle the various tracklists. I should write something about the album's history, which is quite interesting (due to the "illicitly" recorded African chants). Unfortunately, there aren't too many of us Earth Band fans out there...
Manfred Mann's Earth Bands BEST ALBUM EVER! I love it! 😍😍❤❤💖💖💋💋
Great Band forever !!! for 40 years Fan from Manfred Mann 🌹🌹

Actually, it is the version in this TH-cam video that is the alternative one. See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somewhere_in_Afrika#US_version

Согласен. Моя любимая вещь тех лет.
Франция теряет свои коллонии в Африке,и они очень сильно злятся 👎
I am from South Africa and wondering why Manfred's Earth Band never came down here- after all he is a South African national.
A good point. I don't know. The band was obviously influenced by the culture.
I think he was banned from re-entering the country due to his anti-apartheid stance.
+David Meece my world history teacher was South African by birth and introduced me to this album thank you Mr. Sherwin
Yes - he was Banned - as the FIRST White person from South Africa - Makes you think....
Also from SA, and wondered the same thing. I think MMEB are one of the best bands in the world. Mick Rogers is an amazing guitarist

Amazing!
I was working in Lesotho in 87 and it was banned in SA. Great music
