Body off frame restored to factory ZL-1 specs. It even has an all aluminum 427 from GM Performance.
The ZL-1 legend: Only 69 special ordered ZL-1s were produced from the factory. Considered to be one of the most desirable Chevys ever built, they have sold for over 1 million $. Fred Gibb Chevrolet was interested in filling Chevy's void in the drag racing scene. He ordered 50 Camaros through the COPO program which allowed dealers to custom configure cars. A big horsepower, lightweight car was the goal. He achieved that goal by ordering no frills Camaros. No fancy spoilers, stripes, wheels or options. None of them even had a radio! They did come with F-41 suspension, cowl induction, disc brakes and could be ordered with an automatic or a 4-speed. Of course the all aluminum 427 motor which produced tons of horsepower and torque was the chosen power plant. As the cars were being delivered to Gibb, something was terribly wrong. GM did not absorb the cost of research and development which more than doubled the cost of the car. No dealer could afford this, for the first time ever a a high volume return was made to GM. Gibb returned 37 of the 50 cars. About 20 cars went on to set records in organized drag racing. The others were sold to people with deep pockets. They were so expensive, the last one didn't sell off Gibb's lot until 1973. Looking back, people had no idea that even at $7,200 it could have been the best investment they ever made!
EXTERIOR: All metal, no rust or damage. No fancy trim, spoilers or stripes. Although it does have a functional cowl induction hood which feeds fresh air to the motor. Cortez Silver was one of only 5 colors the ZL-1s were available in. It has a smooth, glossy clear coat finish. All new glass, weatherstrips, window seals, bumpers etc. Painted steel rims with poverty caps and reproduction Good Year Polyglass tires.
INTERIOR: No frills inside either, ZL-1s didn't even come with a radio. It is completely restored. New upholstery, door panels, carpet, headliner etc. It has a new dash pad and instrument bezel. It does have a rare 140 mph speedo, center mounted gas gauge and a factory tachometer. It also has a vintage style set of Stewart Warner gauges below the dash. New mirror, visors, reproduction seat belts, console, ashtray, lighter, glovebox liner etc.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Restored to look factory correct. Genuine Chevrolet Performance ZL-1 aluminum 427 making over 500 hp. Built using a Scat crank with 4 inch stroke, Scat H-beam rods, diamond 10.3:1 pistons, Clevite bearings, Crane roller cam, lifters and rockers, Cloyes timing chain. On top is a set of rectangular port aluminum heads, GM aluminum intake, big Holley carb, GM distributor with electronic conversion. There's a set of 2 inch ceramic coated headers. On top is a functional cowl induction system. It has dated plug wires, reproduction hoses and clamps, Delco battery topper and hood insulation. It also has correct curved neck radiator, cadmium plated brake booster and deep groove pulleys. New wiring harness, wiper motor, squirters are hooked up. All the components look new, all the finishes are clean.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Restored like new and it's complete. Clean, rust free metal was neatly spatter painted. The weatherstrip, decals, wiring harness, seat insulation are new. It also has a reproduction jack assembly, restored rim and reproduction tire.
UNDERSIDE: The body was off the frame and every component under this car was rebuilt or replaced. Clean metal floors with no rust painted satin black. The front end steering and suspension is completely rebuilt. The rear suspension has new leaf springs and bushings. Delco shocks all around. The brakes were rebuilt, it has disc in front. Brake lines and e-brake assembly were replaced. The fuel system was replaced: tank, straps, fuel lines and sending unit. Looking up at the motor it is still spotless. It has a correct new starter. Rebuilt TCI Turbo 400 automatic with 10 inch converter, 178 tooth flexplate. An aluminum driveshaft hooks up to a Moser 12 bolt rear. It has an Eaton 3 series posi with 3.73 gears. Great sounding fat Pypes stainless exhaust system. It has x-pipe, transverse muffler and welded joints. GM leaf springs, Delco shocks all around.
This is a very authentic clone of one of the baddest Chevys ever made!

Sorry jay for this feedback, I love most of your cars. This is a lot of $ for a clone. 10:3:1 compression is not going to give that motor the balls like a 12:5:1 would have been with a real ZL-1. this is too plain Jane for 100K.

If they were concerned about weight, since they omitted the radio and other options, then they should have went with a 4-speed manual instead of the big TH400 automatic

Really nice car. The leading edge of the left side of the hood is too high, gap issue. Otherwise, really nice.

The interior is so nice and classy, it look like the interior of a wooden yatch, and that center console at 8:16 is just 🤌

Wow love it, plain Jane and no vinyl top, SS or Z28 emblems or spoilers.4 speed would have put it over the top.

Can always think of things I’d change to a car but I’d definitely keep the bigger pipes on it. The old chambered systems are neat but don’t do the 427 justice. TH400 more qt. mile friendly but a M22 would be more fun. Either way a great car!
