I first heard this song late on a Sunday night, driving alone out of San Antonio, where I had been visiting my then-girlfriend for the weekend at Trinity University. It was being played on KRTU, which was the University radio station. (That girlfriend also happened to be the student Station Manager of KRTU at that time.) This was maybe 2005. When the “Candy” vocals kicked in, I remember being immediately struck by it, and I called the DJ to ask what it was. I was a professional DJ and nightclub owner for some years after this, and it was a “vanity track” I regularly haunted in sets. When people would walk up and ask what song was playing, my opinion of the questioner always increased, lol. IIRC: the vocal sample is from a musical showtune “Valentine Candy or Boxing Gloves” from a Pickwick-style LP release of “The Happiest Millionaire”.
I’ve spent the last week searching my mind for the name of the creator of this song... finally jogged my memory today... I just want to say thank you Native cell for this beautiful music you created and also thx for so many great tripps😁💯
@simontre23 Hey I remember you quite vividly when you last commented Candy when it was on youtube some months ago before it was suspended altogether with my account. The song is just incredible. If you are the one who did it hats off. Brilliant layering and ideas. It seems to be entirely about love and psychedelia
@simontre23 I'm peaking my first cid trip right now, never knew where native cell came from. Its reassuring to know the source and seems only fitting I discover it now.
dude, I'm glad to know you're still alive. Ding Dong Fairy Queen is one of my favorite tracks of all time... it always bummed me to see this native cell fellow so off the grid... if you put out some new work ill be sure to give it a listen. i think you deserve a second go with music. but only if you're feeling inspired!
