Hilda has had a lot of success in both its graphic novel series and TV show! As such, many inspirations from it come up as a result of it, with one in particular standing out to me more than the rest. Is Aster a blatant Hilda copy or does it have its own unique story? Today, I find out some answers!

I love the animation and creative art style
I feel like we blur the lines between "inspired" and "ripoffs" too much these days.
Just take a look at the Inheritance Cycle, a book series heavily “inspired” by The Lord of the Rings and countless others.
As someone who has read both books I completely agree it may look like a ripoff but there’s a vast majority of difference between them

It sounds like an exaggeration but then one guy read through the official def of what that means and realized what she did in that ep actually DOES fit every qualification for it LOL.
Maybe a crossover between Aster and Hilda and that would be cool actually. British and French.

honestly, this one seems interesting because of how the character, the illustrations, and the similarities
Most stories written go through certain structures. That doesn't mean it's a ripoff and from what you showed along how you describe its similarities-it's just a natural way of writing. People gain inspiration from others work; albeit, even what you pointed out wasn't a ripoff. There are many stories with a character who have pets as their companions (paranormal park, his dark materials, and fareseer trilogy) and to be honest, there isn't much of a resemblance between the characters. It just seems that Aster has some aspects that you see is similar which is very common in books.
Please refrain from saying ripoffs because it does hurt reputations when doing such and is mainly used when the author is clearly going story by story or in many major/minor aspects (such as characters, relationships, storyline, and personality)
First, Gumball with Miracle Star, now this.
I know Hilda is an adventure series first and foremost, but it would be funny to see her roast HER knockoff.

The similarities seem to simply come from classic folklore themes that Hilda is also based on.

I think I have an idea as to why people say it's a ripoff when there are enough differences to make it an original work. The reason might be because the art style, specifically the colors, is similar enough that it reminds people of hilda. I bet, if you completely change the art style, no one would say it's a ripoff. Just don't judge a book by its cover,
Also, reading a bunch of other comments, I'm not sure a many of those commenters actually watched the video (which is really sad)
The art style seems more like Adventure Time, with a bit of Hilda graphic style.
I read Aster and watched Hilda and never considered any correlation between them… interesting!
As someone who read aster before watched Hilda, I can say that I didn’t notice anything, other than them both being in the mountains and hav in a cute animal siekik

People really should know the DIFFERENCE between.........INSPIRED BY and RIPOFF, like I just need to watch the art and yes clearly the artist admire Luke Pearson work, and yes they probably love Hilda, but that doesn't make this comic a RIPOFF, who many stories and comics or movies or games are inspired by others that came before.....I know you got the the same conclusion but making the video and entitle as a RIP OFF is not a good thing for the people who made this book (that looks adorable why the heck you do that), not cool dude, not cool.

If it was a ripoff... the legal department would be involved to cease and desist... if the idea is just different *enough* then they don't have a case. Luke Pearson ofcoruse would not answer your question, why would he? If he said anything to you about it he could potentially put himself in a legal bind... so ofcoruse he wouldn't say anything to you. Inspirations happen all the time, look at harry Potter and Worst Witch.

Hilda isnt a rip off. It was inspired by the aster but still its own. Its like how many shows have art styles inspired by adventure time or steven universe? A lot right. Everyone is inspired by one thing or another what makes the biggest impact is what is known in pop culture like marvel or dc, gumball and its chinese ripoff, rick n morty and everything else.

According to the creator Luke Pearson, Hilda was originally going to be a Moomin oc like a fan-character
But as the years passed she ended up as his own character and her own little world
i'd say it's not a direct ripoff, taking the approach of hilda, but doing it's own thing with it. like how undertale takes the rpg aspects of earthbound, but makes it different and it's own thing.
I only just found out Hilda books exist and I want to buy them all now..
I don't think it's a rip-off, but it still doesn't have that level, or more so "vibe" of aw-struck charm that only Hilda has.

Did a double take when Aster got revealed, I never even considered it being a Hilda ripoff. Similar? Absolutely, but it definitely has its own unique charm and vibes to make it its own thing.
