    Jordan, like you I'm a long-term Ringling Brothers fan who saw their shows regularly. For my parent's 50th wedding anniversary in 1993 I wrote a letter to Ringmaster Jim Rigona asking if he could arrange something special during our visit. Three weeks later I received an answer from him [postmarked from the Circus train!] with a backstage pass enclosed saying he'd be delighted to meet us. Before the show on that very special circus-day we were escorted from our seats to backstage where Jim greeted us and posed for pictures before giving both my Mom and Day their own ringmaster's whistles in black velvet boxes complete with the famous circus logo printed in silver on the lining! And as he circled the ring in the show opening, he even tipped his top hat to us! PURE CLASS! These are just a few things that made Ringling Brothers such a GREAT American institution! And I mourn the loss of those amazing performances to this day.

    I grew up with Ringling Bros and loved them, got so exited when they would come to twin m, in those days my parents would drop us off and pick us up later. Now that I’m older and realize how awful it was for those animals it breaks my heart, animals are not toys we just didn’t know better then😿💔😿My memories are happy of those days always just couldn’t wait for the big tent ty for this great memory😎🐾

    One of the most memorable vacations we took as a family was to Sarasota Circus Hall O Fame,this was in 1965-66.I saw the memorabilia from Jumbo,Gargantua,TomThumbs Wedding carriage and photos of the wedding as well.All of the training areas for the trapeze artists,the animal acts,the beautiful costumes,the wagons,the circus organ,train cars,the clown cars,clown costumes,paint kits they used on their faces,a picture museum of the tragic history of the Wallenda family, it was all so magical and mesmerizing and I never forgot how amazing it was.Thank you Jordan for this vlog.Quite often your videos bring back good memories.

    Holy cow was this amazing!! So sad when the Vlog ended. We truly couldn’t believe how beautiful everyone of these carriage and train cars are. So well preserved so ornate, and all the detail and every single one everyone you showed I thought was the most beautiful and tell you showed the next one just simply incredible. What a neat place to be able to see and we definitely added this to our bucket list if we ever get up in that area.🥰💕

    As always Jordan , your guess was completely correct. Benzini Bros WAS the fictional circus featured in "Water for Elephants". The wagons you saw were props from the movie. What gave it away for me was how much newer and plainer they looked compared to the originals.

    • @DazewithJordantheLion
      @DazewithJordantheLion  ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @alecs1196
      @alecs1196 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DazewithJordantheLion: Actually, what popped into my head originally was that "Benzini" et al, could be the name of the Memphis law firm Tom Cruise worked for in "The Firm", but it was actually: [Bendini", Lambert & Locke].
      P.S. Regarding "Calliope", your 2nd guess was the right one. It's: {Kuh+ Ly + Uh + Pee}
      (which is how Bruce Springsteen sang it in [Blinded by the Light]... "the calliope crashed to the ground.")

    Many of those antique wagons can be seen in C.B. Demille's 1952 THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH which remains today the best circus movie ever made. In that film you'll also see "Jennie" the Elephant and both legendary clowns Lou Jacobs and Emmett Kelly.

    23:20. I saw the very last Ringling train parked near the approaches to my office about 5 yrs ago. It seemed to go for miles. They had flatbed cars with semi trailers and sleeper cars. They would unload the gear, put it in the trucks then shlep a couple miles to the Coliseum across town. Back in the day, the Circus took advantage of the trip from rail yard to the tent by making a parade out of it with fancily decorated wagons etc.

    Thought I saw a story about where the small performers and Hollywood actors had a bar in their southern winter break area. Everything was miniaturized for them. Low bar, small bar stools. The was a rumor in the 1980's in Wisconsin about a town called Hauchyville, just for small people. They didn't allow strangers in that town. Probably urban legend. Another semi hot spot in Wisconsin is the Witch Laidy's house on Lake Michigan. Her husband (and maybe son?) went off to sea never returning. She made wild artwork. Little north of Milwaukee. She really wasn't a witch. Stalin's daughter lived in Spring Green. That is a good story too. Ben Marcus who was head advertising guy for one of the major brewers. He brought the Circus parade to Milwaukee for decades. Also, the Marcus theater chain. I coincidentally about same time in the 90's dated his beautiful granddaughter few times, small world I let her in the building a few times). Anyways I was security guard at his condo building The Newport. He would visit me in the lobby and tell me about Ernest Borginine who was Grand Marshall of Circus Parade and personal friend. He knew I was a musician and spoke of Dizzy Gilespie or Satchmo recording in his apartment on his reel to reel. He still had the tapes. All the big stars coming through town in the 1960's he pretty much sponsored or advertised being his brewery was involved in in some way. His wife was physical wreck from early on in their marriage. He stuck by her for better or worse. Good man.

    Little late to this. I worked in wagon restoration there for 12 years. The Berzini wagons were used in the movie as props. The glass sided wagon was the snake den. Women would ride in it with big boa constrictors. Should have gone in the building across from the wagon pavilion. That's where the restoration shop is.
