I remember this game like it was yesterday! Great to hear Lindsey Nelson! What incredible mechanics Seaver had, his stuff was electric that day, as it was his whole career!
This wasn't the actual footage because you see Ed Charles on the field number 5 and I believe his last year was 1969. By the way the video clip is kind of cool and it gives a lot of the younger people an idea of how dominant he was.
I’ve never seen any video, film of this game. Pure gold. With all the strikeouts in today’s diluted game it’s amazing no one has ever tied the mark of 10 K’s is in a row. It will be a sad day for me when someone does. Lol. Thank you for posting!
Thank you Thomas, unfortunately there aren't as many grateful viewers like yourself. Currently out of 1500 VIEWS there are only 39 LIKES which means TH-cam won't feature the video. Such a shame...
Folks one that will never be broken is that he did the 10 to end the game he got the last 10 hitters to strike out that will never happen again especially in these days.
What a fantastic find. I've never seen video clips from this game before. It was on channel 9 that day, but I didn't watch it. I would remember watching something like that. Tom at his most terrific and Nancy in the stands.
No…..WAY! Do you have any idea how many times I have seen the film highlights to this game?! Not only is it the live television footage, but it looks awesome’ Retro Maven Trivia- How many times have I hugged my computer thanks to Retro Maven? Answer- 16
Thanks man! I was fortunate enough to see Tom Terrific pitch in person in his last year in the majors. Let's hope this helps keep his legend alive for future generations...
Remember this game well ....Seaver just got stronger every inning ,Struck Out the last 10 batters consecutively ..From the 6th inning to the end of the 9th.He threw nothing but fastballs right over the middle of the plate ...No hitter had a chance ..watching it live was ..surreal !!! It looked like every pitch was going 200 mph .dead center in strike zone .....I never before or since seen ...pitching like Seaver's that day
I saw it too live & you took the words right out of my mouth! But I'll say it again. The greatest pitching performance I ever saw in my entire life! And that day, The Franchise knew it!
This happened to be the first game I watched on color tv - an awful color tv, field barely looked green. I remember Seaver’s fist pump, Al Ferrara (Brooklyn guy), Colbert bat on his shoulder.
Wow ! I saw this game at 10 years old on wor ch. 9. I have been looking for this game for years! More on that later. This was the greatest pitching performance I have ever seen. I saw Ron Guidry S/O 18 for rhe Yankees but he didnt have the stuff Seaver had on that incredible day. After the game they interviewed Jerry Grote the Mets catcher. He said it was like Seaver was a giant on the mound compared to the hitters. Then he said "And Tom Seaver knew it"! I want to thank the person who put this on. I know it was difficult finding these rare clips. However, why should it be? I'll now answer that. Because you have the worst run organization in baseball history from 1962 till today. The WORST! Look at the Yankees. They saved most of all the historic games they had way back in the 1950s. Imagine, one of the greatest performances in baseball history & it's gone. Not only this game but tons of others. I am willing to pay cash money to anyone who can find this game. This way before I die I can watch it with my sons & watch their faces as The Franchise took care of buisness!
@@retromaven2159 That's not encouraging. I have no way of locating this. Ive been searching for it, but I'm not in the broadcasting buisness. I wouldn't know how to find it. But I have hope. There was a great NFL playoff game in 1974, Dolphins at Raiders. It was known as the "Sea of Hands" game. It was lost. About 30 years later a duplicate film reel was found in Mexico. You obviously have the smarts, maybe to locate this game. The proof is this clip you just put together. Remember who I am. If there's any possibility of locating this game, out of share gratitude, I would be extremely appreciative. Thank You again for the great job!!!
@@jamesdavis6036 I've been researching these games for over 30 years and I'm sorry to say they are just not out there. But it's great when a few clips like this surface from time to time
@@rrmarshall3239 Yes your right. It is great. Since you obviously have experience trying to track these games down, you have to admit, the Mets organization has a monopoly in stupidity when it comes to saving historic games. The 69 playoffs. The 73 playoffs. The 73 world series. Tom Seavers 6 one hitters including his close call with almost pitching a perfect game. And the grandaddy of them all, this game. As a former Met fan, for another 50 reasons, I am positive when I say, this has been the worst organization in sports history till this day.
@@rrmarshall3239 Same here although it's more like 20 to 25 years for me. It's amazing to me that people still think this stuff was saved. Like the Yankees saved all their games as opposed to the Mets? Where exactly are the regular season Yankee telecasts from the 50s and 60s? Most of the 70s for that matter. What exists of the 60-64 World Series telecasts? The only complete game only exists because of Bing Crosby I'm delighted and amazed at the clips RetroMaven has uncovered. I never saw any clips of this game until now. I might have seen them the day the game was played, but not since then.

No that's not Ed Charles, it's Joe Foy, who was the Mets third baseman in 1970 and also wore #5, so this is the actual footage.

The 10 K’s in a row has been tied twice, once against The Mets as well.

@@retromaven2159 indeed. That Aaron Nola thing against The Mets angered me to no end.

One of my All-time favorite , Tom Terrific.
love how grote brushed off that fan on the field art the end of the game
I think he scared the poor kid half to death, to be honest. Poor kid - just wanted to most likely congratulate his favorite Met, Seaver.

Lindsey did the radio broadcast that day so I have to assume that the original source of the footage had no commentary on it and this was synched in.
Give that man a cigar!!

I was 12 years old and there with my dad. Sitting in the field boxes by third base. Just fantastic!
