      Neal’s making this hard to watch. He keeps finishing Gabriel’s sentences and then Gabriel has to correct him.

    As someone who lost his father in 2011 when I was just 10 years old, it is very hard to grow up without that role model. You taking the time to listen to your fathers side and trying to form something with him is awesome.

    It's always so sad when you hear about someone who didn't know their father growing up. I have two sons of my own and I loved them so much, I couldn't imagine them growing up without me. Gabriel seems like such a cool guy. I wish there was a way to magically get him all those father-son moments he missed out on. I hope his new relationship with his dad can at least in some small way alleviate that loss.

      Sad for the dad even more so.
      I’m enjoying being a father way more than I did a son… and I have a good father!

      It’s like what Bill Burr said-
      The secret to being a good father is just playing catch with them… and sneaking in little questions or bits of advice while you’re doing it so they don’t even know it’s happening.
      …can’t play catch when you’re 80…

      I actually grew up without my dad growing up. I'm 33 now and never met the man. And it's hard as hell. You're always wondering who he was and why he left. Sure I had a stepdad so it made it easier but mostly it was just my mom and my sister and I had to watch her struggle to raise us and provide for us. After I had my first son, I could've run like my dad did, but I didn't want my son, or now sons, to grow up wondering who I was or why I didn't stick around to love and care for them. I didn't want that life for them. Because of what my dad did, I always swore that if I had kids I was going to be a better dad than he ever was. Sometimes I wonder if I'm doing a good job and doing right by them but when they hug me or tell me they love me, that's the best feeling in the world. I wouldn't trade it for anything.

    • @DoctorHemi
      @DoctorHemi 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@faeynelockhart7026, I'm so sorry to hear that, but in regards to your own kids, keep it up! It sounds like you're doing great! I don't know how old your kids are, but when they were younger, my kids loved playing table games like paper football (th-cam.com/video/jxkt0ddWmpQ/w-d-xo.html ) and 3-penny hockey (th-cam.com/video/loFvsXZVOKg/w-d-xo.html ), and this other "game" where we set up army men randomly on opposite ends of the floor (or table) and we take turns rolling a small superball to try to knock each of them over. It's literally the simplest things where you spend time engaged with them that they'll love and remember.

    I lost my dad in 2019 right before Christmas when I was 21. Hearing Gabe talk about seeing his dad after so many years is so warming to me. I really hope he can get a little something with his dad before he dies.

    I can't relate to reuniting with an absentee father, because my dad has been in my life since I was born, but my heart still breaks for everyone who has suffered that fate. It brings to mind that episode of The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air when Will's dad leaves him again and he cries while being consoled by Uncle Phil.

    The end of that video reminded me of Marcus Aurelius, who had a person cuz only job was to whisper into his ear, "you're just a man."
    Which is essentially what therapy for powerful and celebrity people is, reminding them that they are just human. And that they have flaws.

    My dad deserted us when I was a year old. I hired a PI at 16 (with all my saved babysitting money) and found him. He was married with step daughters and Never told them that I existed! It wasn’t a good meeting at first.
    Years later when his life crumbled he contacted me.

    Speaking from gathered information of most of the people I have at one time or another known throughout my life that had fathers not present… it was the mother who completely pushed the fathers away. Either by doing parental alienation as a form of punishment to the man or by fabricating petty lies later uncovered or by creating such drama it was unhealthy to be amicable. The fathers are always vilified but when the truth comes out, it was the mother who kept the father away. Sad but true.

    Growing up, almost none of my Black friends, & classmates had their fathers in the home, & I know how much that hurt them. Now that I’m 42, It breaks my heart that the cycle is continuing. The white kids would have conversations amongst ourselves asking why they didn’t have a Dad…. I still don’t know. I also don’t know what I would have done without the support of my father growing up, I feel awful for these kids.
