- In today's video, I take you around the greenhouse and show off the basins that we've built. We have started adding dirt, so that we can grow plants outside this summer. Learn from my mistakes. I didn't properly setup the dirt, so we ran into a couple issues. But we are all on the right path now! In this SPECIES SUNDAY we discus VAL! TANK ON ;)

I suck at planted tanks. I killed all my duck weed. My local water is basically R.O. water. I got cheap with my ferts and screwd it up. My snails moved all my dirt to the front (it was sloped). My Val thrived through all of it. I routinely trim off 3' leaves.
Snakes, box turtles... I think nature approves of your greenhouse as much as we do! I wouldn't be surprised if some frogs get busy in those basins.

The jungle Val got from you last year is now in all 3 of my tanks. Once it got growing really good I just pull some out. Replant where I want it and let it do it’s thing. P/s give this plant time , and your aquarium will be full.
Love Valisneria all kinds the spiral one was the first plant i got succes with as a kid back in the old days when we had only sponge filter that too diy and only sunlight and it grew like crazy plus nowadays i use gigantea and jungle val with great succes so im a HUGE val fan and like your content and drive so peace
Hello teacher thanks for explaining . I have some of this plant it’s crazy grow super fast from 3 pieces to 100 in 23 days but anobias is dead from 5to 1 and bad I don’t know what is the problem.. best regards
Father Fish says that graver is worst thing you can put in a fishtank. You grow plants not fish so it does not matter in your case.. I would love to hear your thoughts on gravel vs. sand in deep substrate dirted aquariums.

Awesome video! How do you keep algae from overwhelming the basins?
insane amounts of CO2 and High plants loads... earlier on they will certainly be harder than later once grown in
Some people say that Val and similar plant won’t grow tall if it’s getting too much light and that you have to dial the light intensity back to make it seek the light. I’ve had Val that would want to grow bushy, but not tall. Obviously, that’s not true in nature because it can grow very tall under sunlight. Do you think that’s a light spectrum thing?

How are you controlling algae in these outside basins?
THe plants should out -compete the algae of nutrients in the water. That's how you control algae.
When using co2 like that, in a reverted bottle, do you see your water getting more algae or getting cloudy? I have started using it like that in my planted tank and there seems to be a bacterial bloom because of it.
I actually fine it’s just the opposite. The amount of readily available CO2 doesn’t dissipate quickly and is available on demand for the plants something else has changed in your aquarium in my opinion
