    My substrate is like that..it comes from the bottom earth... Im here in philippines in mountainus area so i dug the earth and get some fine soil and rocks and dried it out in hot sun and the colours and texture is awesome. Litterally a scrubland looks like...

    what brand of clay powder are you using in this? or what is it marketed as? i've been looking for a non excavator clay powder to use and yours is the perfect color!

      It's just labeled "earthenware clay powder". I think this one is a local product and it's actually used for making pottery.

      @@dnadesignn I've read that pottery clay contains silica, wich can damage your lungs if inhaled. Does it happens when people put in oven or it doesn't matter if you don't still dangerous? Also, the product that looks exactly like your mix is called Stone Dessert, by exo terra, I believe. By the way, thank you for the heart!!!

      @@negronjr7853 that's new to me, I think you're right I've just read it on the internet. It appears that the amount of silica will increase when it gets high temparature (not sure) and there are also other materials which contain silica like sand, perlite, and vermiculite, which are sometimes added to the clay to modify clay properties (Also not sure, I'm not an expert in those things 😂)
      To minimize your chances of inhaling the clay dust, you can spray the clay mixture with water several times while mixing, It'll make it not dusty at all. Also best to use 100% natural clay. Lastly, I think as long as working with clay dust is not your daily job, there'll be no problem 😁

      @@dnadesignn you could bake it in the oven at 250• for a while and it should get rid of %90 of the silica, it works for manure pathogens too

    I really enjoy your dessert enclosure builds and most of the content of your channel but just like the previous comment about the clay powder I can't find it anywhere here on internet. Could you give me some directions as where it's possible to buy ?

    • @dnadesignn
      @dnadesignn  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! You can buy and use Zoo Med Excavator Clay, I think it's available globally and works almost the same.

      You can use Zoo Med excavator clay, it is available on amazon. I use clay dust that is intended actually to make pottery that is available on local building materials store.
