Hej Tobias,
I have now watched all the driven hunt movies on this channel. Very nice to see the way you explain a lot of the safety issues we as hunters have to take into account. What I do not understand is that the running of the dog keeper in this movies is seen as ok. Even regarding the fact he might have his rifle on safety and it is a Blaser so the spring is not triggered.
It seems as if the person is so eager to shoot an animal that he starts running after wild animals on the run. While running anything can happen and things in the situation can chance which might make the shooting unsafe.. I myself moved to Sweden a few year ago and am part of a hunting team here. My experience with dog keepers is, safety first, don't do anything crazy, let the dogs do the work and drive the animals towards the stands... it almost seems as if the person does not care about any of these things.
I have never experienced or seen anybody act like in this movies and for some reason I don't think it fits your perfect example of explaining all the safety issues in the details you do! Could you give me an indication of what you think about this matter? Maybe after all these years you have changed your mind on this particular matter.
Looking forward to the coming movies, so I can keep education myself in the ways of hunting!
Daan
HI,
I am very happy about your feedback and I can easily explain how I see this situation. I think we have had some discussions regarding this before here in the comments.
One issue there is with making videos is that one not always take the time to explain every single angle of each situation. In one way it can destroy the feeling in the video and it also takes time to do it.
In this situation we hunt in a very small group of hunters in an area we often hunt together. Everyone knows where every stand is and we all communicate on the radio if we move. In this case, Fredrik (the shooter) was almost finishing up the beat when Oliver (the cameraman) saw the wild boars coming. Fredrik shot the wild boar from the position where they discovered them. He is very safe and one of the best driven hunt shooters I know of. He is pretty sure that the first hit is lethal, but since the wild boar is still running, he follows up with another shot just to be safe. Since the boar is still running, he feels that he want to try to cut it off in the case that his shot was worse than he expected. He does want to prevent to miss the opportunity to finish the boar off and he wants to prevent a potential search for a wounded boar. This is why he runs. He also caught up with the boar and can finish it off. One miss we do is that we did not film where the two first shots hit, they are app 5 cm apart in the lungs. The third shot is totally unnecessary, but it is always better to be safe than sorry. As I see it there is no problem with the first two shots. He knows where all the shooters at the highseats is placed and he has ground for the bullet. He runs with the rifle on safe and this is why many dog keepers here in Sweden use this kind of safety system as the Blaser has because this allows for a more flexible hunt. Of course one shall always treat the rifle as it is dangerous, but in this case, he is more or less totally alone in this part of the beat and he has the experience to act like this without compromising safety.
I would do the same as him if I had the same situation tomorrow during the same circumstance. However, in hindsight I realize that I could use an extra speaker and explained the circumstances because during other circumstances this maybe would not be OK.
Running is as I see it not a problem and does not compromise the safety, as long as you know what you are doing and is used to your rifle and its features. The way we hunt moose and wild boar here in Sweden, many times need that we cover pretty long distances in the hunting areas. Many times we hunt for ourselves with only one dog and you yourself in the forest and to be effective and get results, you need to move fast to cut off the animals. However, in this situation, there is also the aspect that it is an animal that is already shot at and we do our best to avoid a troublesome search.
I hope this explains how I see this situation and I am glad you enjoy our videos.
Regards,
Tobias
skoj film ! kör hårt :D

This is the same way we hunt here in the balkans. Bosnia. Same equipment pretty much and the tactics. The beaters and the hunters at stand are active when it comes to shooting. Also we communicate and are very proud when our dogs do a good job.
Cool! Nice to hear!

Härligt med ett fint avslut och ett första djur för drevern! Bra jobbat, fortsätt så! :D

Wolfgang,
Thanks!
I've been to Alberta, Canada this last fall to film moose hunt and hunt bear myself. We was very unlucky and did not see any game at all... :-(
...but I'll be back! ;-)
Regards,
Tobias
Red Moose Hunting. thats to bad we saw 24 bears in sept and lots deer .i live in alberta .Edmonton .
We was hunting in a area app. 1 hours flight north of Fort McMurrey. Maybe the big force fire earlier 2016 had something to do with the lack of game, but we will probably never know...
...however I'll most likely will be back in Alberta in May 2017 for a black bear hunt, it's in the planning now.
Regards,
Tobias

I've watched several videos now and have noticed in your most recent ones that the correspondence in other languages isn't being translated into English. It's nice to follow along and know what's going on.
Either way, I really like your content.
Best regards from the US 🇺🇸
Yes, there is some "gliches", but now days we try to do our best in making subtitles in English, in case of speaking Swedish.

Jo, det kommer bli en hel del om utrustning under våren, där är det inte så mycket jakt, så vi får göra film om andra saker du. Skytte, utrustning mm ;-)

What it's the breed of a dog?
Yuriy,
The small short legged dog is a Swedish "Drever" and Fredriks dog is a East Siberian Laika.

Never run with the loaded gun..! Good placed bullet on roe deer.
Thanks for your in-put.
Not run, says who...?
...as long as you have the barrel in a direction that is safe...
I do not know, but I should suppose that Fredrik have put the rifle on safety and with a Blaser the pin is not tightened, so the rifle can not fire even if he should fall badly.
I'm much into safety, but I think that you are taking it one step further. ;-) Thats good!
...I'm still interested in your humble opinion of how to think when hunting winter time on frozen ground and in rocky terrain. What do you consider a safe shot, considering ricochets? ;-)
regards,
Tobias

ty dude
//Tobias
Let me one year and i invite you
I appreciate that, we will see what the future has to offer... ;-)

I like hunting but.. driven hunt with radios ans silencers.. you look way more like killers (hitman) than hunters!!! I barely believe it!..
marco elli Does it matter how a hunter look like? Do you hunt youself? How do you think a hunter should look like?
Radios is used to commuicate many things, but safety is one of the more important.
In Sweden we have almost zero to nothing regarding incidents concerning safety for both hunters and none hunters, because we can easily communicate between hunters.
Silencer does not make any hunting rifle silent, it is not as in the movies. Theres is still a pretty laud bang, but the silencer makes the shooting more accurate which benafits the game we hunt. It also makes the sound a little more silent, which lets the sounds travel less far in distance and in that way disturb other none hunting citizens less.
All aids that can make the hunting more safe, accurate and friendly to the none hunting population should be embraced. How it look like should be of no concern, or...

Tobias
