It's something I miss these days. Not the speed nor the fragility. But the spinup and read sound...

@@denzterwastaken thats not the platter making the sound, its the motor. Theres no major damage to the platter if it does the seektest.

You have a lovely amount of excellent drives. I love those Seagate Medalist drives. 10:25 the resonance of those is probably what makes me like them so much.

Yeah they are some of my favorites, too. The motor sound is very unique. They also were some of the first drives to show a SMART status and had defect management.

WD Piranha has a double height and 4 platters instead of 2 platters. So it had twice the capacity of a WD Caviar at that time, but was kinda expensive

@@mikixyz123 many early western digital caviar drives had a push-in connector to put an LED on the PCB. If you insert an LED, it acts as an indicator light. If you have an old WD drive, the LED port is on the opposite side as the IDE connection, on the bottom of the drive

Brrrt! Brrrt! Brrrt! Brrrt! Whoops! UOH! clench and run clench and run!
funny I have a box of old, small capacity drives that I am giving to charity,
and alot of the ones you showed here are the same ones. mostly out of
computers that ran windows 95, back when drive and memory size didn't
matter that much. they're too small for much Data storage, and Not SATA
so they're not strap-able, so they're no real use any more
